This will be separated into few sections:
- Benefits from chains
- What to do/not do few days before chain start
- chain timer and chain watching
- calling hits, dropping bonuses.
- What is Expected of you
- How to find targets.
- What to do during chain
- Useful notes
Let's begin with what is the purpose of a chain and how does it benefit YOU
[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]As a Faction Member;[/background]
[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]
- [background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]Chaining provides respect; respect can be used to unlock different variety of perks from lowering overdose chance to Higher gym gains therefore you essentially benefit yourself by benefiting your faction.[/background]
- It allows you to level faster due to the attacks you will be making.
- In many cases, it will also allow you to achieve different attack, chaining, and weapon merits you may not otherwise achieve.
- (My personal favourite) you get to see salty kids cry
What to do/not do before chains:
The most important thing to do is to stack.
Stack - Accumulating energy above the 150 limit[/background]
(Andymans Torn acronyms. imo most useful guide out there)
"How do I reach 1000E?"
Train your original E to 0 before you start stacking for your chain.
Then every 5-8 hours take another xanax till you reach 1000E. The first time you do this, you should receive the energetic merit.

"When do I start stacking?"
Your leadership should send out a newsletter giving you indication when to start stacking. However you can start to stack a bit earlier/later (make sure you are capable of taking 4-5xanax before chain start).
Most factions provide xanax for chains so you won't have to spend any money.
NOTE: DO NOT train that energy even if you have a day or 2 left (it can be tempting at times but you must resist)

Chain Timer and Chain watching:
"What is chain watching and how does the timer work?"
Simply put chain watchers watch the chain timer (picture below)
There is no specific rule to chain watching some use scripts like TornTools or TornPDA to give them a notification when the chain timer drops below a certain time.
Personally I like to hit at 01:30 or 02:00 although different people have different preferences so its up to you to decide when you hit
If the timer drops to 00:00 Chain goes into cooldown after the cooldowm is over chains goes to 0 that is called "chain drop" (different from bonus drop)
Timer resets to 5minutes after someone from your faction makes a hit.
To start a chain, your faction must make 10 hits in 5 minutes. Once the chain is started successfully, the timer will reset to 5 minutes after someone from your faction makes a hit.
NOTE: all types of attacks make timer reset; leave, mug, and hospitalize.
Chain watching is (should be) optional although chain watchers are important and needed. Without them whole chain drops. Most factions have designated chain watchers, but you should still keep an eye on it!
There is a merit for saving chain within the last 10 seconds. DO NOT… I repeat DO NOT attempt to do to it by yourself. This merit is usually organised by the faction leaders and when the chain nears completion.

Calling hits, dropping bonuses
The purpose of building a chain is to reach 13 designated bonuses at 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2500, 5000, 10000, 25000, 50000, and 100000 attacks. Each bonus provides a huge flat bonus amount of respect.
Note: 100,000 Chains have not yet been released.
Right before a bonus drop, there's something called ‘calling hits’ where around 20-10 hits from the bonus, members come to faction chat to give a number of a hit they'll make(unfortunately I dont have a picture but ill try to show it here)
P1: 91
P2: 92
P3 :93, 94
P2: 95
P3: 96
P1: 97,98,99
This is to ensure Player who drops the bonus gets it 100%
Your faction will lose 25% of the respect gained by an opposing faction if one of their members attacks yours. This can potentially be devastating at the higher bonuses, so watch out!Respect below is respect Gained

| Hit #100,000 (Not Released) | 40,960 | 6 days, 22 hours, 40 minutes |
What is expected of you:
Chaining is considered a fun activity by most, although there are expectations you need to meet while chaining.
Most factions expect their members to have at least 1% of total hits, this means that if chain is 10,000 long you are expected to make at least 100 hits but...
The more hits you make, the more likley you are to get noticed by leadership and move up in this cruel world. Try aiming for top10 hitters (Factions I've been in have prizes for their top3 hitters so you might earn something too :D)
Remeber you aren't expected to turn up to every chain but you need to give a valid reason to your leadership of why you'll be missing chain BEFORE the chain starts if you don't communicate that well, you most likley will be kicked.
How to find chain targets:
"Can't I attack at random?"
Usually you should aim for high respect targets however you will have varied luck find targets that are worthwhile
example of a good target:
Arcy102 left xxx on the street (+7.03)
The respect is the number in the ( )
Ideally you should aim for 4+ respect because...
more respect = better perks, faster
So now how do you find targets well...you have few options:
- Mission targets. Those are probably the best to keep and use. Duke’s mission targets are always the same or slightly higher than your current attack level. So they will garner a decent amount of respect, for at least a little while. Those targets will change and be replaced with new ones as you level. You can use scripts like TornPDA or Torntools to assemble and save a list of your own favorite chaining targets.
- Indubitably's Target list
- If previous list was too difficult, stats and level wise, use Baldr's Target list
[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]Aim to hit your targets as fast as you can to get yourself down to nature energy (below 150e with donator/subscriber status and below 100 without).[/background]
if you have time stay ingame enjoy nice chat with your faction mates in faction chat if not go down to 0 and return when you can (ideally within next 4-8h) from there you take xanax make hits go repeat.
Useful Notes:
A retaliation hit is an attack (hospitalisation only) made on someone that has attacked one of your faction members within the last 5 minutes. Retaliations provide a multiplier of 1.5x, and can only be claimed once on a player until they attack your faction again
You are able to retal yourself
- Remeber not to mug. Mugging lowers your respect few mugs should be fine just remeber that 99% of your attacks should be leave or hosp
- This is a mini version of the chain timer.
