How much do you think experience and age are worth in the game?
In trying to determine a weighted value of contributions to my faction's chain, I devised an age rank value. The age rank value is based upon age, but not explicitly in days. It's based on your member ID rank within the faction. But, I didn't want to conflate a rank number where the first member of a 100-member group is weighted as 100 and the newest as 1. This would seriously destroy the rating. So, instead I add 100 (the total number of members) to each rank, so the oldest member has a value roughly 2x (200) the value of the newest member (101).
The question is, how much do you think experience in the game is worth? Feel free to geek out, or not; it's entirely up to you!
Agreed; age is most definitely not enough. I recognize that an array of metrics is necessary to most precisely capture one's contribution to their faction.
I think you're getting to the entire point of why I create a metric which incorporates age.
If a player has not spent their time in game, i.e. age, learning how to play the game well for their faction, then their value to the faction is lower than that of a new player who might contribute the same as them but with less game knowledge.
I completely agree, especially about the timing of hits in a chain!
This is one of the reasons I like finding or creating other metrics to assess contribution. No single metric tells the full story of contribution, which you point out with attacks. 40 timely attacks are worth so much more than 40 attacks without any chain management. As far as wars are concerned, I haven't experienced one yet, so I will have to learn about those when I am in my first one, but with your assessment regarding time on contested walls, wall hits, and number of retaliations, I have a better understanding of how to improve my contribution when that time comes. Thank you! :)
I completely understand. I don't want to downplay the value of a newbie, in fact, it's purpose is to hopefully extract exactly what you're talking about.
Having only participated in this recent world event, where chaining was critical, and since I am very analytical, I was hoping to glean more about how we contribute to events than just respect or attacks tell us. Think of it like trying to assess more than just total hits or runs in baseball. While those figures are critical, they don't tell use everything about a player.
The purpose is to assess one's contribution during chains and wars. I am still very new and learning much of the game, but I have analytical tendencies. In general, I feel experience and age, while they should go hand-in-hand, don't always. Consequently, it would be a way to potentially determine who has used their age to gain experience and who hasn't.
As with any metric, it is imperfect and requires consideration within a basket of other factors and/or metrics. which is why I'm soliciting feedback.
