Today is World Mental Health day and I think this is a very important topic to talk about.
For those who don't know me, I'm Chick. I'm a member of committee, runner of racing tournaments and creater of terrible jokes. I've also been suffering from Depression for as long as I can remember. This may surprise some people as I am usually a very upbeat and positive person online. But depression isn't always crying and being sad all the time. I'm someone who frequently sleeps for 10+ hours a night. I can have days where I simply have no energy to do anything. A simple task like cooking a meal is impossible for me at times. It's a struggle. I've found that connecting to other Torn players has made a huge positive difference to my mental health, but I am still far from being "cured". (I would like to give a massive shout out to all my Torn friends, in particular the members of Medic!! You are all amazing)
I know that mental health is complicated and it can't be cured by with a simple "cheer up and get a bit of fresh air". However, there are things you can do to make a struggling persons life a little easier. Check up on the members of your faction regularly. Think twice before you send that nasty message to someone who's slighted you.
In recognition of World Mental Health day, I ask for everyone who is reading this to reach out to a friend (either in-game or irl). Send them a gift, ask them how they are, let them know that you're there for them. This small gesture could make a big difference.
If you're struggling, please know that you are not alone. There are plenty of people on Torn (including myself) who are happy to talk. There are also many services and resources online for support. Remember, in an emergency you should contact a health professional asap.
I'm going to end this post with a link to a little video I found online: Click here for video.
[image: i.imgur.com] To celebrate JLT reaching over 1,000 participants, we have decided to create our own "community event" style competitions based around the tournament/torn racing. The categories are:
Banner
As most of you know, many racing competitions in Torn hand out a banner to the winners. We would like you to create a banner for the Spring '22 winner probably Chick to display on their profile. The design can be a still image or a gif. It should have the dimensions 600x100 and be less than 2mb. Please put one of the official JLT logos somewhere on the banner. They can be found here: https://imgur.com/a/dgrpxPs
Children's activity
The JLT team have decided to create an activity book to keep the competitors entertained between races. * We'd like you to create a Racing themed activity. It could be a colouring-in page, crossword, word jumble, spot the difference etc... As long as it’s interactive and appeals to those with a young mental age (so as to not confuse the average Torn citizen) it counts! In case you need inspiration, here is an example I made earlier: [image: lh3.googleusercontent.com]Obviously we expect submissions to be better quality than this (which was done in a mere 2 minutes) and not entirely made up of googled images!
Short story/poem
What happens at the race track, stays at the racetrack? Well not anymore! From the stewards secret meetings to sabotage on the track to the final sprint to the finish - there's never a dull moment during JLT. We want you to write a short story or poem about what really happens on race day. We will accept all types of poems (including but not limited to haiku, limerick, sonnet etc...) but entries must be 500 words or less.
JLT meme
Do we really need to explain this one? Simply create a meme based on the events of Spring JLT '22.
The rules:
All entries must follow the torn guidelines.
Entries are open till 12:00 TCT on June 27th (Day after the last race)
Post your entry in the thread below. Please state which category you are entering.
You MUST include the link from the hosting website (Imgur, discord etc...) for your entry to count. (Doesn't apply to the short story/poem category)
Up to 2 entries per category per person. Further entries will be ignored.
Anyone (outside of the JLT steward team) can enter. It's not just limited to racers!
If you want to discuss the event or any entries feel free to head over to the #Event-Go-BRR channel on The Pit Stop discord. Please avoid posts that do not include entries in this thread.
Winners will be picked by the steward team.
The winner of each category will get a donator pack. Entries which deserve a special mention will win energy drinks or xanax.
Winners will be announced in the JLT results article.
Any questions, feel free to message Chick [2589433].
Good luck!
The JLT team
* Activity book does not actually exist. It's just part of the prompt.
Hello racers! Torn's most mediocre racing tournament is back for its 2nd edition. I will post the full rules later as I want to get registrations open ASAP but here is the quick version.
Aim: Try to be as close to the middle of the racing pack as possible.
Dates: Beginners (stock E) tournament - 14th-18th June Main tournament - 21st-25th June
Time: 10pm TCT
Requirements: Class C or below- Beginners Over 10 RS - Main Class B or A and below 10 RS - Either tournament
To join just send me an in game message (or post in this thread) telling me which tournament you would like to join. I won't ask for screenshots like other tournaments. This is because joining the wrong tournament will just make is harder for you to be average!
Any donations are appreciated :)
Registration will close in exactly a weeks time on 12th June at 7pm TCT
Edit: I've got some time now so I will explain the scoring system as it is going to be slightly different to last time. In each race, the player (or players if an even number of people show up) who gets the central time will get 1 point and the 1st place prize. The player one above and one below will get 3 points and the 2nd place prize. The next above/below will get 5 points and the 3rd place prize. The scoring will continue like this for the rest of the racers.
At the end of the competion, the racers with the least amount of point will win. There will also be a prize for the racer will the most average time (out of those who attended all races)
If someone crashes, they will get the time of the slowest racer + 1 second. If someone doesnt show up, they will get points equal to the total number of racers signed up and will no longer qualify for the time prize.
Here is an example of 2 races with 11 people signed up: 1st 11 2nd 9 3rd 7 4th 5 5th 3 6th 1 7th 3 8th 5 9th 7 10th 9 11th 11
"You were sent 8x Donator Pack from sugarvalves with the message: For the tournament. Let me know how it goes and good luck!" - Big shout out to sugar and the TCT for the sponsorship! Half will go to the Beginners and half to the Main tournament as top prizes!
EDIT AGAIN: Results table can be found here for the beginners tournaments
Prizes will be sent out in bulk at the end of the tournament. They are not set in stone but they are likely to be flamethrower for first, xanax for second and a can of energy drink for third. The overall prizes will be a donator pack for the top 3 plus the one with most average time (points will be used as a tiebreaker if needed)
Are you tired of constantly coming middle of the pack? Worried that your semi upgraded Mustang is never going to win anything? Well I've got the perfect opportunity for you! JAART is a small competition where the aim is to be the most average racer! To help you understand the format, here are a couple examples:
In this race, 6th would win $1,500,000 and 5th and 7th would each get $750,000
The tournament will be running every day next week, Monday to Sunday, at 22:00 TCT. All cars are allowed. There will be cash prizes for each race and for the best in the whole tournament. If you are interested, just send me (CJBWRC) a message by Saturday 9th January at 22:00. As I am running this with my own funds, an optional donation of $250,000 or more (sent as a trade to avoid muggings trades are apparently awkward just send when you can see im online lol) would be appreciated. All cash donations will be added to the final prize fund. Hope you all enjoy :)
EDIT. It looks like URT is going to clash with the races. I'll wait for the official announcement but if there is a time clash I will make this a 5 day tournament. All donations will still go out as prizes.
EDIT 06/01/21 The tournament is now running from Monday to Friday to avoid clashing with URT qualifiers. Races still start at 22:00 TCT each day. I've now created a spreadsheet for JAART: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NSW_rKJel-qr2ccnR-ziEz-_hMi7jxRZ3v6DwVRwN7g/edit?usp=sharing . It should have everyone entered so far on it but let me know if I have made any mistakes. I'll send all participants a message this Sunday (probably later in the day because of work) with the names and passwords for the races. Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far
Will the race be a fun run because of the clashing Destruction Derby race? It would suck to miss a race for the first time all year because I qualified for a different race :(
Congratulations to everyone who took part and made it to the end. This month has been tough but it has been so much fun. I am looking forward to going back to my regular sleep schedule lol
And thank you to Omanpx and BrandyQHQ for running the competition. I know how much work goes into these large scale events. You have created something really special <3
I never thought at the start of the competition that I could survive sleeping in 75 minute intervals but its working! The things our bodies can deal with when a virtual parachute is on the line haha
I understand the reasoning behind this change (it is weird that the best way to increase racing skill isn't racing) but the numbers are way off. We don't need a press pass nerf, we need a HUGE racing skill buff.
For example, ive entered over 6,000 races and still only have a rs of 27. In comparison, my hunting skill is 41 with only 24 trips to SA. A majority of my crimes are at level 100, despite it being a much newer feature than racing.
While I do like that racing takes longer to complete than other tasks, it shouldn't be impossible. At the very least, 4 years of consistent racing should bring me closer to rs100 than rs1!
I wish taking pole position at the start helped my results lol. I only won because I have enough points to fully upgrade my car. And my rs is a lot higher than everyone else. Dont worry, my results don't count in the L1 races!
