Most games that have ranking systems have different facets.
E.g. World of Tanks they take into account the tier of your tank and within that your skill. You don't get put up against people with a higher skill than you, instead they pit you against someone with similarly demonstrated skills along with similar tiering.
If the ranking system is one dimensional than it most certainly is flawed and deserves reconsideration. I understand it's new and if anyone believes it'd be perfect right out the gate you're just brown nosing the admins.
