I'm well through class C and wanted to share my experience:
Class E:
Car Honda Civic
Points spent: 1, weight reduction
Races: 17
Wins: 1
Conclusion: Don't bother spending points more than 1 point, or none. More races = more Racing Skill, and points come in steady even with a 0 point car.
Class D:
Cars BMW X5 & Toyota MR2
Points spent: 2, weight reduction on both.
Races: 34 / 23 (57)
Wins: 15/0!!
Conclusion: Probably because a lot of people read this guide, you will find a lot of upgraded MR2's. But getting a mudpit car (the BMW X5) and spending the 1 point makes you win almost every race. I had a 5 first place win streak for a moment. But spending 2 points here is optional, since a lot of wins means lower racing skill, which doesn't help in the next class, as I learned.
Class C:
Cars: BMW Z8 & Ford Focus RS
Points spent: 14, optimal upgrades on the Z8 (check the spreadsheet), and weight reduction on the BMW
Races: 47 / 22 (69)
Wins: 2/3 (5)
Conclusion: I'm not done with this class yet, but with 70 races under my belt, I'm pretty done modding my cars.
I feel like I'm paying for the easy points from class D. Hard to win, even on mudpit-like races, probably because of my lower racing skill. But I could still place 2nd/3rd half the time in mudpit. It's been getting a bit better recently, the wins are recent. Also the stats don't show which races I placed 2nd/3rd, which I would approximate to 15-20, which is still earning some points.
I would do the same strategy as class D, only spend 2 points on the Z8 and the RS, and see how it's going after a week or so. The Z8 with 14 points invested isn't winning so well.
