I find this really interesting and it brings to mind a question for which I have never found an answer - why do things like steel drums, tailor's dummies etc command a price far in excess of their purchase price abroad? These are items with no use at all, not even a secondary use in crimes like arson, so although I've profited by their inflated values from time to time, I've never remotely understood why there should be any such inflated value on them.

Well I don't know about mice but when you have to hand rear infant kittens or puppies you have to stimulate them to urinate and defecate, you do this by gently wiping the area with a warm damp cloth. Worth a try but really you should speak to a vet or a wildlife rescue place.

My dog is called Chips. That sounds like a boring name but there is a story to it.

My previous dog, Emily, always used to have false pregnancies every year when she came into season. The first time, it was truly dreadful. When it would have been time for her to have the pups (if there were any), she started to bring me her small toys, constantly. She'd bring me a little squeaky toy, put it in my lap and give it a nudge with her nose, and look up at me all hopeful. After many repetitions of this, the penny dropped - I realised that she was asking me to make it alive. It was three or four days before she was convinced it was never going to happen. And then she took her favourite little squeaky, and she took it into the drawing roon (the darkest room in the house) and she lay on the sofa with it between her paws and she grieved. She spent almost all the time doing this, for another three days, and nothing would comfort her. All I could do was sit with her. She got over it after a few days and went back to her normal self, and the dreadful time was never repeated, but every year when it got to be that time, she would carry that same squeaky toy around with her and from time to time she'd put it in my lap. It was a squeaky toy of a little packet of McDonald's fries.
After she died, I was offered another puppy and I named him Chips, in memory of my girl who wanted so badly to be a mother.

Oh dear. i haven't lost a parent to suicide but I did lose a friend to it. He wasn't a close friend at all, so I didn't have to deal with what you are. One thing I think might possibly help you to process it, though, is that generally when people take their own lives it is due to suffering from depression. A strong case can be made for the proposition that a person suffering with depression, a recognised mental illness, who takes his own life has actually died of his illness. This puts it in the same region with things like cancer, and while it's still hard, of course, to lose them, I think that recognising this can take away or at least reduce some of the other stuff.
