I don't know her personally but I've lost more people than I could count, some family, some friends, and the feeling never gets any better. But seeing this many people celebrating her life, I'm sure she is smiling where ever she is. Condolences to you and to her family. 🙏
I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment. It is entrenched in jurisprudence that all persons should be afforded equal rights, no matter their sex, age, or economic standing. Sadly, it is also true that sex and gender play a role in the presumption of guilt and/or innocence in certain cases.
Take for example in the Philippines. It was only recently that the "Maria Clara" doctrine was abandoned by the Ph jurisprudence. For context, the said doctrine is a presumption that Filipino women would not speak and admit to the abuse unless it actually happened. As such, when Filipino women would file a complaint about **** or domestic abuse cases, there is a presumption that the allegations are true prior to court proceedings. In these cases, the respondent of the case is already presumed guilty even without the benefit of the doubt.
While it may be that JD started a movement wherein the abuser can be a female, it would take a lot for the courts to evenly recognize that fact.
I don't want to get too political over your statements however, I firmly disagree with your statements. To quote Elie Wiesel,
"We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must - at that moment - become the center of the universe."
You said you are against Russia invading Ukraine, but then again you contradict yourself by saying that you are a non-partisan in this situation. I do agree that we should side with those who are affected by this war greatly. However, we should condemn this act of Russia considering that he is the aggressor and the one who perpetuated the first act of war. No matter what intricacies in their geopolitical situation, we should still err on the side of justice and life. Furthermore, despite our differences, changing to a flag of Ukraine in this virtual game full of misfits may not help bring peace, but the symbolism itself would show that despite us being miscreants here in Torn, we are still founded on basic human decency. Additionally, I read that some staff of Torn is based in Ukraine, as such, we can't really do much but we can at least show them that we are concerned about them by this simple gesture.
