Ranked War, Recruits, and Early Discharge bonus · · 1 like

An authors caveat: What I believe to be a bug that I am covering in this post has been talked about in another post which staff have respondedto . However as that was about a different issue (which I agree is working as intended) I have decided to add it to its own thread as I believe it is not working as intended. If this is incorrect, staff, please accept my apologies. I encourage you to read that post for some background.

Following from discussions in the above linked post, I think rookies in ranked war is not working as intended.

Based on this flowchart found on the wiki:

This is how I believe staff intend recruits to work in ranked war.
  • Recruits are not able to gain respect during a ranked war. However they can be farmed for respect.
  • Recruits will not be able to become full members during a war and will therefore be targets only. (Not yet implemented but mentioned by Ched here)
  • As for all intents and purposes, recruits are NOT members of the faction (source) any hit they perform would be considered an outside hit.
  • Recruits can also not perform retaliation hits and they don't gain bonus for these.
  • Therefore, if a member of an apposing faction is attacked by a strong "mercenary" recruit they will receive the early discharge bonus and be able to leave hospital as if nothing had occurred. This would be the same as if someone not in either warring faction was paid to kill.
Reading through all the information that I can see and based on comments via Chedburn on linked to posts that is how I interpret it to work. Please let me know if I am not following that correctly.

However in the current war between my faction Galactic Arcade and Death by Chance (https://www.torn.com/factions.php?step=profile&ID=41066#/war/rank) this is how it has occurred.
  • Strong recruit makes an attack or a retaliatory attack against opposing faction member.
  • Member goes down but attacking faction is not granted respect (for attack or retaliation)
  • Opposing faction member is not given early discharge bonus treating the attack as a non-outside hit.
I believe the bug here is caused by recruits not triggering outside hits correctly and therefore it is not granting the early discharge bonus correctly.

The only thing I can think of that would mean this version makes sense I will address below because I believe this will be the first thing someone mentions.

According to the wiki flowchart above:

Retaliations can never be outside hits.

However as mentioned in this post here "Recruits cannot earn any form of chain bonuses". They don't get given the retaliatory attack multiplier and therefore are unable to retaliate. As this is the case we fall onto the second caveat.
Attacks from recruits are outside hits.
Outside hits give early discharge bonus. Currently they don't.

In conclusion how I see it currently, one of two situations are accurate.

1) Recruits are not causing the early discharge bonus because there is a bug that assumes they are retaliating making it an inside hit, meaning the early discharge bonus isn't given.
2) System is working as intended and recruits are able to retaliate to attacks stopping the early discharge bonus but not gaining any respect for the act.

If two is the case, the flowchart and wiki are incorrect and the caveat of "retaliations can never be outside hits" supersedes the caveat of "attacks from recruits are outside hits."

I have been very confused by how it is meant to be working. Hopefully I have stated clearly what I believe to be the issue and we can get input from the community and staff.

Please let me know if you think I have overlooked something, am working on out of date information, or anything else.

Best,

That doesn’t make sense. The recruit wasn’t being attacked. They were attacking. The problem was that wasn’t being treated as an outside hit.

I still don’t understand what is going on but as it is now closed I’m assuming that’s that. At least Husky’s answer makes sense so I will assume that to be correct

Thanks for tldr Cloud. Did this at silly O’clock in the morning because I couldn’t sleep.

is warring forfeit enabled? ·

At least for me there is a lot of confusion here. As a newbie I want to get this straight.

I fully understand why the forfeit doesn't occur. That is only for a 20% drop in members. I am however not following the retaliation or not.

Following the flow chart above that CornHub posted would suggest , the new players that joined the war would be outside hits. It is also covered in this post according to Ched that:
Basically recruits are treated as if they're not in the faction at all.

I admit that this post is 10 months old but From what I can tell this is still correct.

This is where my issue comes.
  • If recruits are for all intents and purposes not part of the faction then,
  • Recruits are not able to make retaliation hits because they aren't in a faction (which is shown by them not giving bonus respect) then,
  • If recruits can't retaliate they are therefore outside hits so,
  • Why are retaliations by recruits not giving early discharge bonus?
I agree with Ched when he says earlier in the post that we GA cannot win. However this seems like an issue with the system to me. How can a recruit not be in a faction but not count as an outside hit at the same time. Seems wrong to me.

If I am overlooking something please let me know. I just want to understand what is going on here. Would it be possible to get a comment on this please @CloudJumper?

If it was decided that you didn’t want players to be brought in after matchmaking finished, surely you could just lock recruiting until the war ended.
