This faction's awesome! Super helpful group of people, lax requirements, fun camaraderie. I entered completely new to this game, no clue what I was doing, and having a discord full of people willing to help was a game-changer. No way I'd still be going without the help I got from Heart of the Dark early on.

At this point, we're -- what, undefeated? In ranked wars. We may not be the biggest or most powerful faction, but we're engaged, and we give a shit. That's taken us pretty far so far, and I don't see us slowing down any time soon.

Maybe you've already got a faction you're loyal to, but a friend of yours just started playing and you don't wanna hold their hand through getting established? Send 'em our way! (And give serious consideration to jumping ship, your faction is probably losers comparatively.)

Can you please point out where the two-party system is "literally part of the constitution?" I don't recall political parties being mentioned in the constitution at all. The founding fathers warned against the formation of political parties. They're self-sustaining power centers. There's nothing unconstitutional about political parties, or a two-party system, but I'm pretty damned sure it's not enshrined in the constitution.

This faction rules! I knew very little coming into this game, and would have probably given up by now if I didn't have great faction mates to show me the ropes and explain things I'm having trouble with.

Our ranked war victories seem to have way more to do with participation than sheer power -- the last one seemed easy to lose, but we had a more engaged army. That's a cool feeling, winning just because we're trying more, even if the stats are against us.

Yep, it's 50 problems to fix instead of one. Luckily, like I said, some states are already doing it.

The electoral college is enshrined in the constitution, but states select their own electors and decide how to run that process themselves. There's already an attempt to kind of override the electoral college without a constitutional amendment (the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact), but it doesn't come into play until enough states to decide the election sign onto it, and it faces reasonable legal challenges.

There's no single move we could make that would fix the problems with our democracy, but more states allowing ranked choice for national elections would go a long way, as would (in some way or another) neutering or disbanding the electoral college. We've got some potential solutions to real problems, but their likelihood to actually be effective is a bit of a long shot.

My point, though, was just to clear up what is and isn't in the constitution. Bhappychap saying the two-party system is "literally part of the constitution" was way too misinformed to go unchallenged.

Agreed, first-past-the-post is what keeps the two-party system entrenched. But I'm not sure THAT's enshrined in the constitution, either. Afaik, the mechanics for voting and tabulating are left up to the individual states. FPTP became the norm, and unfortunately continues to be, but changing it wouldn't require a constitutional amendment -- as evidenced by some states (Alaska and Maine) implementing ranked choice voting for presidential elections, and many other locales using ranked choice for local elections.

You've correctly identified the problem, but continued the pattern of misunderstanding the root of it. The founders did not set up our voting systems as they exist today.

Things seem worse than they are when you're in them. If you're set on the air force, there'll be no shortage of recruiters ready to land that plane. But please make sure you're set on it. There are many ways for you to make a good life for yourself. Some folks need heavy guidance and discipline, and the military's great for that, but it comes at a high cost. If you value personal freedom and individuality -- not as concepts but as ways to live your life -- you can (and likely will) find better ways to achieve them.

If you need that guidance and structure, go find some local recruiters and make some calls. It's a valid path to take, and you don't need our help to take it. Either way you go, be sure you're making the right decision for yourself and what you want in life.
