Dear Diary,
I won't bore you to death with huge long entries, but I want to recap my first week in the city for you. It was definitely interesting, and I learned so much, I just wonder how much I still have left to learn before I can start to become a "someone" here in this great city.
Day 1 - A friend of mine invited me to move to the city and experience city life for the first time. I was a little hesitant at first, especially knowing about the high crime rate in Torn, but I figured, why not, city life is bound to be more exciting than what I'm used to. So I packed up my bags and moved into a tiny little shack at the edge of the city. My friend gave me all kinds of advice and told me so many things to do now that I lived in Torn, that I couldn't keep it all straight. I signed up for a class, and I hit the gym, looked around the dump for a while, and then found some spare change in the park fountain. Not sure I'm supposed to take those coins out, but oh well.
Day 2 - Hit the newspaper hard today, trying to find good jobs and find a way to make a good living for myself. This shack wasn't cutting it so my friend said I could stay in his Villa for a while, at least until I could afford a place of my own. Talked to an advisor at the university and I planned out a course of study to match my career goals so I have that much done at least. Feels like today was wasted except... I did get a cool job in this Fitness Center... seems like a cool place so far. My friend made sure to mention to me that there was an amazing market on bootleg beer in Torn, and that I can make some pretty fast cash selling to the underage college students and AA recovery groups.
Day 3 - Wrote to little sister today and told her about how I was settling in with my new life in the city. She seemed excited and surprisingly it kind of seemed like she wanted to join me here.. I might have to go to some interesting lengths to make her move here possible.... I'd be willing to do what it takes though, family means everything to me. I've been getting a lot of junk mail. I think the previous tenant of this Villa left a lot of unopened letters for me or something, that or they made a lot of people mad, someone rings my bell with a special delivery letter about every hour. Spent more time at the gym today, I like working out and I'm already feeling a good burn. I think this city will be good for me.
Day 4 - Convinced little sister to move to the city with me today. It took some doing but I managed to make a chunk of money to make her move possible and set her up nicely with a good place to stay and some starting cash. Tried my hand in the stock market too, as well as opened a little corner shop to sell my stuff. I say shop, it's more like a stall you find at the famers market back home. On my way home tonight though, I got mugged and left in the streets, ended up struggling toward the corner where I was able to hail a cab to the local hospital. Wasn't expecting to meet the dirty side of the city so soon, but I should have expected it. The police were irritated with me, I couldn't give much of a description of the guy.
Day 5 - Got little sis hired into the same Fitness Center where I work, the boss is great and likes to hand out the perks fairly regularly. Seems like a decent place to work for a while. I tried to get into this street family, a faction I think they call themselves. But for some reason they were on a deny spree, nobody was getting in. I wonder if there's some family drama going on in there. It all worked out in the end though because I got a better offer later in the day from a group that really seems to know what they're doing and they helped set me up with some stuff to wear to prevent most muggers I'll see out and about. They gave me some great advice and really seem to have taken me under their wing and made me feel at home. I think I might like it here in Torn.
Day 6 - Same guy mugged me again. I know it's the same guy cuz he's got this MO, he'll hit me with a particular weapon straight off and then mug me and leave me bleeding in the streets. I keep trying to catch a glimpse of his face under that mask he wears but it's too dark to see. One day... I will find out who he is... and revenge will be so sweet. Is this city affecting me, am I turning into one of them? Been playing around a little in the casino, not sure if it will pay off in the long run or will end up being just a huge waste of my money, but in the meantime it's a lot of fun. The bootleg beer market is going well, I'm making some good cash and managed to rent a nice place from the family I joined. They seem like great people. Although, one guy has threatened repeatedly to hit me with a trout. Interesting.
Day 7 - I found the racetrack today, and I asked my boss for a change in my job at the Fitness Center. I'm now the Nutritionist so I get to follow my goals and still work at this amazing place. My first class is ending so I'm looking forward to my next course which will allow me to use my home computer to do some odd jobs on the side. I find that staying busy keeps my mind off of all the crime going on around me. That and the racing, I love the speed, the cars... the sound of the engines revving and smell of gasoline, oil, and burning rubber on the racetrack. I might spend a lot of time here, at least until I can fly...
-- Thanks for reading, if you guys like I'll try to do more weekly installments, but if you don't like no harm done. I had a lot of fun writing down a bit of my experiences from the past few days as I started my life here in Torn, and I look forward to many new adventures in the days, weeks, months, and years to come.
