Are you able to proxy the dreads you have as hellbrutes? Although I agree you shouldn’t have to do that, I can see why that’d be infuriating.

Is there any dis/advantage to playing either primaris or first born marines or is it purely cosmetic?

Nope, I did buy some magnet for my dreadnaught but I never got around to actually doing it. 

I’ve not played a game of 40K either, but I’m hoping it’s the cards, so it may become more of a thing then; it would help since there is a ton of different bits for some models. 

Current project

If you’re lucky enough to have a local Warhammer store, they have a ‘mini of the month’ that they give you for free. Some might even set you up with some basic paints and show you the ropes. 

If you’re based the UK (I’m not sure about other countries), there is a magazine called Combat Patrol that runs in stores like ASDA and you can get 1-4 minis in each magazine - which makes up a wider combat patrol set over the full magazine release range, they’re cheap too £10.00 for test minis so could be worth a shout. 

Otherwise it’s the rule of cool, buy whatever model/faction you like and paint it however you want.

UK supermarket = cheap Warhammer magazine with mini included 

Rule of cool above all else.

I airbrush my primer and base coat, haven’t really experimented outside of that.

A lot of my bases (like the post above) are just PVA glue and water, which I dunk into some miniature sand which has mini pebbles etc. in it, really basic but works wonders.
