I feel this is not going to have the desired effect... quite possibly the opposite...

Why Arguing on Internet Forums is a Terrible Idea (And Why You Should Definitely Keep Doing It)

Ah, the internet. A vast, boundless wilderness where the human spirit roams free, often in search of a fight. And what better place to unleash your inner gladiator than an online forum? Whether it's a subreddit dedicated to comparing the relative value of pineapples in the year 1462 or a torn thread where people argue over whether someone should have been fedded or not, the possibilities for online conflict are endless. But here's the thing: arguing on internet forums is like bringing a Nerf gun to a knife fight, except the knife fight is happening in a room where everyone is screaming at each other while wearing noise-cancelling headphones. In other words, it’s a bad idea. Here's why.

1. The Echo Chamber Effect: It's Like Yelling in a Mirror, But Louder

The beauty of internet forums is that they’re global, which means you can argue with someone across the world who has a completely different set of experiences, values, and opinions than you. This is where things go wrong. When you get into an argument online, you often find yourself trapped in a feedback loop, constantly reinforcing your own beliefs while everyone else around you is just as convinced that they’re right.

You can yell, you can type in all caps, you can drop a well-placed "you don't know anything about [topic]," but the people you're arguing with aren't hearing you. They’re just waiting for their turn to scream at you in all caps. It's like arguing with a brick wall, except the brick wall has Wi-Fi and a very strong opinion about the best Marvel movie.

**Solution**: Step away from the forum and try arguing with your pet. They at least won’t start pulling out irrelevant facts about pineapple pizza or your favorite YouTuber.

2. You Will Never Change Their Mind

You think you’re going to swoop in like a benevolent knight on a white horse, offering logical, well-researched arguments to change someone's worldview, right? Wrong. No one, and I mean *no one*, goes into an internet argument thinking, “Well, maybe I’ll reconsider my position after reading that person’s well-articulated post." People online don’t change their minds—they just dig in deeper, like they’re in a trench warfare battle where the only weapon is snark.

Here’s a fun fact: research shows that arguing with strangers online tends to make people *more* entrenched in their beliefs, not less. It’s called the "backfire effect," where instead of thinking, "Hmm, maybe this person has a point," your brain responds with, "Who is this idiot and why are they ruining my day with their nonsense?"

**Solution**: Skip the futile argument and just take a nap. At least when you wake up, you’ll feel refreshed, and maybe a little smarter for not getting involved in the argument in the first place.

# 3. **It’s All About Validation, Not Information**

Why do we argue on internet forums? Because, deep down, we all crave validation. We want people to look at our brilliant insights and say, “Yes, that’s correct!” But here’s the kicker: it’s rarely about the actual information anymore. It’s about who can post the most convincing meme or drop the wittiest one-liner. Internet arguments quickly devolve into a game of who has the sharpest tongue and the fastest internet connection.

You may think you’re dropping knowledge bombs like Einstein, but in reality, you’re just trying to score points in a game of virtual tic-tac-toe, where everyone’s playing for the title of "Most Likely to Have Their Opinion Featured in a Clickbait Article." If you can’t post a meme that makes the other person cry, did you even argue?

**Solution**: Instead of arguing for validation, try arguing with your own reflection. At least it won’t have an opinion.

### 4. **People You Don't Know Are Not Your Audience**

The real danger of internet forums is that you’re not arguing for the benefit of the person you’re engaging with; you’re arguing for the audience. The audience, in this case, is a crowd of faceless usernames who may or may not be paying attention. The other person might be in a completely different mental state than you are, but the real audience is those lurkers who read the posts and form an opinion based on who makes the most compelling argument. But here’s the dirty secret: no one is really listening. They're all just waiting to reply with their own hot take.

It's like performing a Shakespearean play in front of an audience that’s only interested in making fun of the costume design.

**Solution**: Save the performance for someone who cares. Or better yet, perform your own one-man play in the privacy of your bathroom mirror. Trust me, the applause will be deafening.

# 5. **The "Trolls" Are There for the Drama, Not the Debate**

Ah yes, the trolls. Those mythical creatures that roam the internet, posting bait-filled comments to get a reaction. They are like the internet’s version of the little gremlins who run around kicking sand in your face at the beach. They’re not interested in having a civil discussion—they just want to watch the world burn (or at least see you burn out from frustration).

Arguing with trolls is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to knock over the pieces, poop on the board, and strut around like it won. You might think you're winning, but you're just wasting time and energy.

**Solution**: Don’t engage with trolls. Instead, engage with your own sanity and take a walk outside.

# 6. **You’re Arguing in a World of 24/7 Hot Takes and Instant Regret**

Internet arguments are often fueled by the most irrational thing of all: *immediate reaction*. Everything is happening in real-time, and emotions can run high. But here's the catch: the second you hit "send," you’re stuck with that hot take forever. You've just broadcast your opinion to a world of strangers, and now your random, impulsive comment is out there for the world to dissect, share, and mock.

It’s like eating an entire pizza by yourself at 2 AM—sometimes it feels good in the moment, but the next morning, you're regretting everything. Especially when your comment gets screenshotted and sent to a group chat that’s now calling you “Pizza Guy” for the rest of your internet life.

**Solution**: Practice the art of delayed posting. Think before you type. If you still want to argue after giving it a day, well, at least you’ll have a fresh perspective.

# Conclusion: The "Argument" Is Never Over

So, what have we learned today? Arguing on internet forums is like walking into a room full of people wearing blindfolds, shouting your opinion at the top of your lungs, and expecting someone to hear you. It’s pointless, frustrating, and potentially damaging to your blood pressure. But, on the flip side, it’s also kind of hilarious. So, by all means, continue to dive headfirst into the abyss of online debates. You might not change anyone’s mind, but you’ll definitely give yourself some great material for future therapy sessions.

In short: Argue if you must, but remember—the internet is like a giant, chaotic circus. You might as well enjoy the show.

All the personal stuff is painful to see.

We like a fun war, we showed up, we lost to the more powerful faction who love warring the same way we do. Respect to that.

GG, let's hope we can have more fun in the future.

I'll take having a real life on mothers day over being an impotent keyboard warrior on a text based game 24/7 any day.

Like I said, we see where we can make improvements and we'll go again. We also know when, and when not to waste our valuable energy both in game and in life.

You wait a year to be allowed, you get edged for a week, then when it finally happens it's bitterly disappointing.

GG ODB. At least we get to enjoy our Sundays.
