I live in the southeast USA and I had to leave my job as a Wally World department manager in February 2020 because one of my foster kids got sick and was hospitalized for 2 weeks. After he got out, schools and daycares here started closing. Once they eased restrictions and some things opened back up, the school in our town stayed closed the rest of the summer. Once summer hit, daycares were closing again due to being over capacity and the new school year kicked off only being in session 2 days a week in person and 2 days a week online. The town I live in only has about 1000 people in it and very few businesses. The ones that are hiring only need 2 or 3 people here and there. According to one of the places I applied at is the fact they took in hundreds of job applications from the surrounding counties that are vying for those few positions. The surrounding areas have all said the same thing. I even applied at a lawn care company in the next city over for a job. I'll push a damn mower, I don't care as long as it pays. I was told I needed a degree in landscape architecture for the position. Just to push a lawn mower? Yep. The owner said over 1000 people applied for the spot and that was the only way he could weed through them all(no pun intended.) So please remember that next time you see people post that we are lazy and jobs are everywhere, because technically, no they're not.
