If you open the market page, you are shown a list of the most popular items. Back when there was no tax, xanax was one of the top items, if not the top item. But when the tax was introduced, people moved away from the market and started using scripts to search for bazaars. And if you look at the top items, xanax is 3rd to last or something. Televisions, which will effectively harm you, are way ahead xanax. The removal of bazaars was a complete failure that does nothing but put players that do not use scripts at a disadvantage. Either that or remove the tax, that works too.

When crimes 2.0 came out, I believe it was stated that it was the intention of the revamp to build a crime economy. Some crimes produce certain objects and these objects are used to fuel other crimes. We are currently in the longest streak without a new crime, a little over 5 months and honestly, and I don't see this economy in place.

Burglary and shoplifting will provide SOME tools required for other crimes, like electronic components for cracking, tools for forgery but you only need a very limited amount of these. For an economy to work, you need a constant supply and demand. And the consequence of this is that there is no point to any of it but grind your nnb like we were all doing with arsons and a few merits. 

Now, either my memory is really letting me down here or crimes 2.0 simply do not work in the current state. Also, wasn't their intention to release a new crime every 3 months or something?

I strongly oppose any kind of collectivism and statism, so no. While I won't say he failed, it is too soon for that, I have absolutely no faith in his policies. The way he fixed the budget is a great example, all he did was to pay more interest on their debt and get more money from State tax payers.
