Howdy ladies and gents. First forum thread on this account (used to play, quit for a good while, starting over). This post might get geeky.
I'm sure many of you will recall the air base in the southeast corner of Torn (not the airport in the northwest). I'm not sure if it's mentioned anywhere in the game, but it's certainly home to Torn's air force. First interesting question: is TC's air force an actual branch (i.e., Torn City Air Force), or is it a part of the Army (perhaps Army Air Corps?)? I dunno the answer.
The more interesting question, though, is what this glorious city's airspace is protected by. What if Mexico invades? What about Greg Abbott? Maybe Joe Biden decides TC looks like a nice place to call home? What if the 475957575th Mayor of Torn decides (in his .5 seconds in office before being assassinated) to shoot down all flights from South Africa due to drug trafficking?
Well, we can see precisely 18 aircraft at the air base. Maybe there are more in hangers, but alas, we'll never know. Let's check these out and then draw some conclusions. We can see four different types: a helicopter, a large 4-engine aircraft, and two kinds of fighters. We'll have to go by outline alone, as relative size isn't gonna work given that the chopper is twice as big as the fighters (shout out to the devs here).
Let's start with the helicopters. They seem to have 2 blades and a good array of attack and/or communication equipment. The four blades and the cross-tail shape would point to an H60, the venerable Blackhawk. Not a surprise - they're versatile aircraft and there are many of them floating around out there. H64 Apache is also a possibility, but I'm think Blackhawk.
The large plane is interesting as it isn't a bomber or traditional cargo aircraft. It's got a fairly wide fuselage and four engines, pointing to a Boeing design. The two most-likely candidates would be the 737 (in military lingo, the C-40), which is used for executive transport (perhaps the Mayor uses this? Generals? Ched? Other fancy TC people?). The other possibility is the 767, which is used by many militaries for both executive transport and for aerial refueling (KC-46). Since TC has 15 fighter planes, a tanker might not be a bad bet.
Now, the fighters. There are two types of fighters, 7 of one type and 8 of another. The 7 look a bit older while the 8 look to be 5th-gen. The older ones are almost certainly F-16s, as they have a perfect outline. The newer ones are a bit trickier. They have a very large wing that extends to almost the very back of the aircraft, reminiscent of the Vulcan bomber (though the planes are definitely not Vulcans, as the wings are inverted). F-22 seems to be a fairly good match (don't ask me how they got their hands on our most advanced stealth aircraft). Su57 is also possible (TC has ties to Russia? Ah well, nothing this place does can surprise you, eh?)
So to summarize, it would seem that TC's air force is made up of:
1 large aircraft for refueling or executive transport
2 helicopters, possibly H60s
7 4th-gen fighters, likely F16s
8 5th-gen fighters, possibly F22s or Su57s
Decent lineup in the combat department, to be honest, and with the F22s, TCAF has a legup on almost any nation worldwide. If Mexico invaded it'd be a one-day war -- TC wouldn't even take flak in the air department. Texas would be harder, as they have a Wing of F16s at their command, but not impossible. With the F22s, TC would at least give them Lone Star guys a run for their money.
Hope at least someone finds this mildly interesting and/or amusing. Thanks for reading.
