One year of Torn down, hopefully many more to go. · · 9 likes

I didn't even realize today was my 365th day of being in Torn City. Whaaaaaat a ride.

I've met some pretty great people, had a few not-so-great interactions on a few different situations, maxed out a few crimes, pounded a lot of Xanax and experienced some pretty fun holiday events & celebrations.

I'm looking forward to the next year of Torn, hopefully with lots of cash and stat growth will be in the cards for me.

Stay golden. Cheers to all of youse.

Ramping up new players? · · 5 likes

Ok so hear me out; you don’t have to agree or care just don’t be a dick. This is literally just a subjective opinion that would possibly benefit the community as a whole. Yes it’s wordy but it makes sense that way. Bear with me.

Most established companies require super high stats. The ones that don’t are obviously never hiring. Most active factions (that I’ve seen) require either super high stats or super expensive training schedules- which is all fine, that’s what they need to succeed. (Granted, some of the things I’ve heard about the top factions and how they got there/stay there makes it pretty impossible to reach that level within torn’s TOS.) However, for players like myself, even though I’m active multiple times a day my stats feel so…stagnant. The JS gains from the base level employment is incredibly unbalanced to the job economy as it stands today. The BS gains from gym training feel so stunted- I attempted a choco jump to try to get ahead a lil bit (2 Xanax stacked plus a refill, 35 big boxes and other special candy + ecstasy) and I barely gained 2400 overall. (I should have put into one stat, I know, I’m dumb.) I train daily, I’m trying to be regular with Xanax use, and I’m barely over 20k. This is with some damn good faction perks, too. (Thank you Unity, y’all are the best.)

I’m doing good making money for an overall ‘casual’ player (I’m not a PVP focused player, I don’t minmax beyond what my faction asks, etc.) and I enjoy exploring the site and old threads and wikis and learning little Easter eggs. But this isn’t helping either set of stats.

So what do we do? Obviously I know a lot of aspects of the site are being upgraded and worked on, but in the mean time how do we keep things fresh for older players (and make them feel valued for their efforts in gains) while making it a tiny bit easier for new players to gain a bit of ground and progress a bit into the established universe without waiting actual years to get even close?

We do it through a Ramp-Up/Ramp-Out program. It’s a ‘free’ feature that would allow active new players to gain stats in the gym and base jobs at a slightly accelerated rate that is based on their activity level. (Meaning the gains are multiplied at their peak, whatever that may be, once they reach and maintain say, 7+ consecutive days activity. So day 30 the gains are multiples at the same level as day 7, since that’s the max. If they do not login and do something/train, this would reset to the base level increase and they’d then start a new consecutive build up to that max bonus) This would cap at a certain limit of gains to avoid being abused by those newly buffed players and higher level players who are already in the six, seven and eight figure various stat levels.

Once the player reaches a threshold of stats, that ramp bonus perk disappears and they get an award/merit(maybe?) for finishing the ramp. Players already past that threshold would be awarded that automatically, as well as a second honor for having reached the threshold before the ramp program (nobody under that threshold by the date of activation of the program would ever receive that award, it’s unique/limited to those players who did it prior).

Overall, this would incentivize players to stay active and train hard benefiting themselves, their faction, their job points/company and most of all, the future of the community and the game. As a further incentive, something could be worked out to mutually benefit (to a limit) companies who will hire newer players. (Limit how many ramp up players per company based on star level? Idk yet)

Another big driver for this would be if subscribing/donating players were afforded an additional increase to their gain boosts, much like with the energy level/refresh speed boost. This benefits the site overall because of increased potential for subs with no loss to the site at all. I would refrain from making this a subscriber-only feature, as that becomes a gatekept experience that would deter players who can’t spend the money. As well, it doesn’t take away from the overall day to day of the community and should hopefully only require minimal-ish effort from the dev side. (I’m not a dev, I could be wrong, of course.)

As for the legacy players who reached that threshold without the ramp up; the first thing that popped into my head that would be a cool gift for recognition (aside from an honor bar/title/whatever) would be say, a non-tradable version of stat enhancers (like golden boxing gloves, a signed skateboard, etc.). Or something equivalent. Idk what people with 10* jobs, billions of stats/dollars and powerful factions WANT or need, that’s for the admins/committee to discuss.

Idk, this has been on my mind for a couple days. I want to do more in Torn, I actually enjoy playing and play regularly. I’m a secondary teacher in the education career right now and my INT gains are 25. I can’t imagine them being much more at the final level. Sure, the 10JP/100pt gain perks are nice, but still slow to gain for sure. Especially when some of these companies are requiring tens-hundreds of thousands of stats to get in. Or starting our own companies with lower starter stats probably means very slow star gains for the company, deterring people from staying on. Perhaps a quick revamp of those gains would benefit the community overall as well- even if no ramp-up program, at the bare minimum, giving us lowbies a way to gain a bit of ground a little bit quicker would go a long way. I’m working on recruiting people and bringing more active users to the game, I want to be able to add some more reasonable beginning stat gains to my talking points!

I’m interested to hear thoughts, just please keep it chill. Thanks!

Beer day only applies to regular beer? · · 2 likes

I could have sworn the special alcohols were included last year, but in noticing the only alcohol that’s getting the boost is the plain beer.

is this intentional? The header says ‘all beers’ are 5x more effective, so I assumed they would all be.

What do you generally call them throughout the day? Do you call them by their name? If not, what? And if you speak a language that isn't English, I'm interested to know what you call them in both your native language and its English meaning, if you wouldn't mind! :)

Sorry to hear that. :(

Christmas town is an exercise in frustration · · 14 likes

my guy,

this is my second torn christmas. i had two keys from last year and found another one so far this year. opened 3 chests so far. i've gotten 10 bucks from Santa alone, on top of all the other gifts. I've found a few X-Mass and Mistletoe Madness on the maps, on top of random other candies, energy drinks and alcohols.

You just gotta devote a little bit of time each day and ask for help instead of running to whine on the forums.

just a friendly warning, dude, don't make yourself a target. perpetual forum whining will get you enemies.

edit: i've never read a single guide. its mostly pretty much common sense based.

What's coming first, OC 2.0 or Counterfeiting? ·

Idk the price of that foil stamp went up though…

And Now For Something Completely Different ·

I like the idea, but I draw the line at making animals fight. Pokemon are fictional creatures, that's quite different, but there's something skeevy-adjacent about making fake, digital representations of real animals fight. Even the cock fighting in FC6 rubbed me the wrong way (pun intended).

Call me soft, idc, its just...weird.

Secret Santa, A flop?? · · 2 likes

I don't feel like 10 xannies is a flop, personally. But that's what I got.

Honestly, though, I feel like the SecSanta should be a registration-based thing, with option to do a second (returnable) gift used if some people don't get a gift. (Choose from the extras by RNG). This way if someone doesn't want to send one, they don't receive one and they can go on their (not so) Merry Way.
