Daily Interest for Cayman Islands Offshore Bank · · 3 likes

So, I understand that Cayman Island's offshore bank works like:

At the end of each month, you gain 0.5% interest (rounded half up) on the invested amount based on the lowest amount of cash stored during the month.

However, I find this really annoying and kinda lazy approach tbh. The game is such a grind to get money in the first place.

Why can't we have this as a daily interest rate?

Instead of basing the entire month's interest on the lowest amount of money that was held in the account at any point during that month, interest should accrue daily based on the amount actually held in the account each day.

This would allow players to deposit and withdraw money throughout the month while still earning interest on the money for the days it was actually held in the account.

For example, if I had $1 billion in Cayman for 10 days, withdrew $500m for 10 days, then deposited it again for the final 10 days, I'd earn interest based on:

- $1 billion for 10 days

- $500m for 10 days

- $1 billion for 10 days

Rather than the current system where the $500m balance can effectively determine the interest earned for the entire month.

How would it work?

The interest could still be paid on the last day of the month. The difference is that the interest would be calculated and accumulated each day.

If the annual interest rate is 0.5%, the daily interest rate would simply be:

Daily rate = 0.005 ÷ 365

Then:

Today's interest = current balance × (0.005 ÷ 365)

And:

Today's accumulated interest = yesterday's accumulated interest + today's interest

For example, with $1,000,000 in the account:

$1,000,000 × (0.005 ÷ 365) = $13.70

So approximately $13.70 would be added to the accumulated interest for that day.

The next day, the calculation is repeated based on the amount currently in the account.

At the end of the month, the accumulated interest is paid into the account and the accumulated interest total resets to 0.

This means players earn interest based on how much money they actually had in the account each day, rather than having their entire month's interest determined by the lowest balance they reached.

But what about the database?

This shouldn't require storing a daily balance history for every player.

You would only need to store the accumulated interest for the current month alongside the existing account balance.

Each day, the game calculates that day's interest and adds it to yesterday's accumulated interest at a set time each day.

So essentially:

Account balance: Existing value

Accumulated interest: New value

Reset to 0 once payment is made at the end of each month.

No array of daily balances should be necessary. Only the total accumulated interest for the account from yesterday's total would need to be stored.

If creating more money is a concern

Rather than replacing the current Cayman account, this could potentially be a premium account type with its own interest rate and account cost.

There are several ways this could be balanced:

  • Could just be a donator status, or stock increment holding feature
  • A small fee could be charged for the account.
  • A percentage of the interest earned could be taken as a banking fee.
  • The daily-interest account could have a lower interest rate than the current 0.5%.
  • The interest rate could potentially be variable, perhaps based on some stock market or other in-game economic indicator.

This could give the devs plenty of options to balance the additional money entering the economy while still giving players the benefit of daily interest.

The exact rate, fees and how a variable rate would work would obviously be something for the devs to decide.

TL;DR: Let Cayman interest accrue based on the money actually held in the account each day, while still paying the accumulated interest on the last day of the month.

It would make the system much more flexible and more like how interest actually works, while only requiring the game to keep track of the player's accumulated interest for the current month rather than a daily history.

Bank investment Transactions/Statements/history · · 2 likes

so, I was just trying to work out if it was more beneficial to invest in stocks or in the bank. But when I went to check my Torn City Bank statement, there didn't seem to be one.

I can see how much I am due to take out of the bank when the investment matures but I can't see how much I originally put in. I am sure if I was a qualified accountant or Math student I could work this out but for your average Jo, this isn't possible.

At the very minimum, it would be nice to see the last deposit made so you can see at a glance exactly how much you will earn on the current investment.

Even better yet, a transaction history would be amazing!

So we can see clearly, what goes in, how much interest is added, and what is taken out, maybe even show the interest rate on each investment (as you may improve your merits and interest stats between investments)

Thanks

Daily Interest for Cayman Islands Offshore Bank ·

I think i messed up the calculations, if you keep the payments monthly the formula would be:

Correction to my previous calculation: I realised I made a mistake here. As the 0.5% interest is paid monthly, the daily rate should be calculated by dividing the monthly rate by the number of days in that month, rather than dividing it by 365.

So:

Daily rate = 0.005 ÷ number of days in the month

Then:

Today's interest = current balance × (0.005 ÷ days in the month)

And:

Today's accumulated interest = yesterday's accumulated interest + today's interest

For example, with $1,000,000 in the account during a 30-day month:

$1,000,000 × (0.005 ÷ 30) = $166.67

So approximately $166.67 would be added to the accumulated interest for that day.

The same calculation would be used each day, based on the current balance, with the accumulated interest paid at the end of the month.

Faction Upgrades WAR/PEACE modes Help ·

I have to be cautious with this as you cant unset core upgrades.

You are absolutely positive that unlocking a core upgrade using either mode will unlock that perk in both modes?

I want to use the available respect in WAR mode to unlock "Organized Crimes III" from the core tree, and ill expect it to be unlocked when I switch back to PEACE mode which is active the majority of the time

I dont want to loose that respect and only have OC3 available when in WAR mode

Faction Upgrades WAR/PEACE modes Help · · 1 like

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh! I think I’ve had an epiphany.

So, I have 236,452 respect to spend in PEACE and the same amount (236,452) to spend in WAR mode. That would make sense. It means I can’t rotate respect from WAR mode to PEACE mode as I intended. It also means we had like 20k unallocated respect in WAR mode though.

Effectively two sides of the same proverbial coin. The coin will grow in size as you earn respect identically on both sides. But respect is allocated to perks seporatly on each side.

So my new Question: if I use respect in WAR mode to unlock OC3 from the core tree (which looks identicle), will it also unlock in PEACE mode?

Faction Upgrades WAR/PEACE modes Help ·

Does it take 72 hours for the unallocated respect to appear in PEACE mode?

Faction Upgrades WAR/PEACE modes Help ·

If they are seporate, How is respect earned differently?

Why do i have:

4,422 / 236,472 in PEACE mode

54,814 / 236,452 in WAR mode - after unsetting some specialist perks?

I was expecting to be able to rotate that respect into PEACE mode perks

Also, can I unlock OC3 from the core tree in war mode, and will that also enable it in peace mode?

Subject: Questions about WAR/PEACE faction upgrade modes and respect handling

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently been appointed co-leader of my faction due to the leader becoming inactive. This situation also led to several members leaving, so I’ve effectively been running things day-to-day.

Since taking over, I’ve rebuilt our roster from 7 members to 20/30, put a clear strategy in place focused on farming respect for upgrades, and tried to build a more supportive and active faction culture.

I’ve also taken the time to teach myself how faction upgrades work, at least in PEACE mode, and I’m now fairly comfortable managing and rotating perks there to optimise our setup.

However, I noticed there is a WAR mode, which I had previously avoided because I wasn’t sure if I could easily switch back, and I didn’t want to risk disrupting my team’s daily perks such as Steadfast.

I tried searching for documentation on the faction upgrade WAR/PEACE modes but couldn’t find much beyond a historic newspaper post announcing them:
https://www.torn.com/newspaper.php#!/articles/2278

From what I understood, it sounded like specialist branch upgrades (which can be unset) might be reallocated into WAR mode similarly to how I’ve been rotating some PEACE-mode perks. Since we’re only a few specialist upgrades away from unlocking another branch, and I’m also trying to work toward Organized Crimes III, I decided to finally switch to WAR mode to investigate.

Today I took the opportunity to switch into WAR mode to take a closer look at what can be done. I recorded a screen capture and took screenshots for my own reference. I also unset some specialist perks in WAR mode, expecting that this would free up respect that could be reassigned in PEACE mode when I switched back.

After switching, one thing I immediately noticed is that the available respect and upgrade availability does not seem to match PEACE mode, both before and after unsetting specialist perks in WAR mode. The available respect in PEACE mode did not change at all.

So I wanted to ask for clarification from anyone familiar with this system:

Questions

  • How exactly do WAR and PEACE faction upgrade modes interact?

  • Is respect shared between the two modes, or is there a separate pool in WAR mode? How is respect earned/assigned differently?

  • When switching modes, are upgrades effectively “re-mapped” or just viewed differently?

  • If you unset specialist perks in one mode, can you temporarily reassign that respect in the other mode and then switch back later without loss?

  • Or are WAR/PEACE setups fully independent loadouts using the same underlying respect pool?

I’m finding this quite hard to experiment with properly due to the 72-hour cooldown, which makes trial-and-error testing quite risky. Given how impactful faction upgrades are, I also find it surprising how little clear documentation there is on this. At least, I haven’t been able to find anything as comprehensive as I would expect or need.

Any clarification or explanations from experienced faction leaders would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
