IMO they should ban scripts altogether, but I'm a mobile hipster. Easter egg hunting is the only time I've felt like a script was warranted.

Russian Roulette 'Guide' · · 21 likes

I debated whether or not to create a guide because RR at its core is fairly simple and most players intuitively employ a similar strategy. The TLDR version is to continually increase your bet amount to cover previous losses (if any) + desired gain.

Although I'll go into a bit more detail on strategy below, the primary focus is to provide some pro-tips on avoiding mugs and gambling pitfalls.

Disclaimer – The most important thing to remember though, is that like all other forms of gambling, each game you join has NO guaranteed outcome so don't bet more than you can afford to lose.

Strategy

The most common RR strategy is a variation of the Martingale System. The gist is to double your bet with every loss and halve it with every win. The goal here is to take advantage of probability, in that even though each game the outcome is 50/50 the probability of winning/losing multiple games in a row is not.

I call RR strategy a variation on the Martingale system, because after a win generally restarting back at the original wager is better for mitigating risk (instead of halving).

So if the first wager is $10 and the outcome is a win, the next game will also be for $10. Alternatively, if the first three games were losses the fourth should be for $80 (10/20/40/80). Assuming game four is a win, just rinse and repeat by viewing the next game as game one and reverting back to the original $10 wager.

Table

As you’ll notice in the table (see link above), with each successive game you lose the stakes get higher. The table figure in red depicts total losses sustained from losing 10 consecutive games.

Some players like to pay close attention to win/loss ratio to track deviations away from 50/50. If viewing Torn RR personal statistics there's a successful ratio, which the expectation is to be around 1.0.

  • If luck is on your side, you may win an inordinate amount of games pushing your ratio above 1.0, where it might be worth considering "clearing out" some losses. Clearing out losses just means taking low stakes games immaterial to your bankroll with the expectation of more future losses than wins.
  • If unlucky, the inverse is true where losses will exceed wins and successful ratio may reside somewhere below 1.0. The further below 1.0 you deviate, the more aggressive the bet sizing. Keep in mind, as a commenter mentioned below some averages hover closer to 0.9 for various reasons. For example, some people use acts of courage (see below) to self-hosp which, depending on volume, can influence the overall success ratio average going forward.

Bankroll Management

A bankroll is an amount of total funds available to gamble with. This number is different for everyone, but generally it should be an amount you are comfortable losing in its entirety and not a dollar more.

In the table above, if you’re using 1MM (MM or Million) betting increments your bankroll should be about 1 billion because losing 10 consecutive games can and will happen eventually. If this is a large percentage of your net worth, you’re going to want to start smaller and adjust accordingly.

In instances of long losing streaks, it may behoove you to reset back to game 1 without achieving a win. Presumably you’ll have built up enough to cover the hit, which is preferable to risking bankruptcy.

Gambling Pitfalls

The temptation to deviate from general strategy looms large. It’s exacerbated by both long winning and losing streaks.

With a losing streak the “chasing” mentality will creep in, where the anxiety/urge to win back your losses will continue to grow.
Inversely, winning streaks will inspire false confidence to take on additional risk and disregard “fundamentals” in an attempt to outsize gains.

Patience is KEY, ignore your impulses. Employing a routine strategy is a chore, but it will lead to greater long-term success. Much like Warren Buffet exclaimed about the stock market, money in RR moves from the impatient to the patient.

Money Movement

Avoiding mugs is a significant burden for most gamblers, so it’s critical to be smart about how you move money to/from games.

Have access to PI vault

  • In many cases I won’t bother blood bagging for smaller games, as I can quickly move money into/out of my PI vault while saving med CD
  • Much like putting in wager amounts for RR games, hitting the money symbol to the left of where you’d otherwise manually enter the deposit amount will default to whatever is in your wallet

Med Timers

Managing med CD is a headache for most RR players because med items are used frequently to med in/out for:

  • Self-hosping – see blood bagging / dog poop
  • Mugs
  • Losing RR – shot in the foot

Mindlessly running up CD is going to severely limit the volume of games you can take, and therefore income generation.
Use the proper med item.

  • For example, if someone mugs you, generally a small med kit is going to be sufficient in medding out and add less CD

Blood Bagging

  • Most people are familiar with this concept from warring, but it means putting yourself in the hospital by using the wrong blood type blood bag to avoid attackers
  • Self-hosping is critical if you are hosting large games due to visibility

Dog Poop

  • A semi-costly but med CD friendly alternative to blood bagging, is sending dog poop to a high dex player which results in self-hosp

Ghost Trading

  • Often used in conjunction with self hosping
  • When in the hospital, setup a trade with a trusted individual and put all your money in the trade before hosping out
  • The money can be retrieved at any point prior to the expiration of the trade

Clothing Store

  • 7* and up clothing stores have 75% mug reduction perk

Weapons & Armor (shoutout to HarryWho for this idea)

  • Some RW weapons have Parry Bonus, which has % chance of parrying incoming melee
  • Melee weapons are common in muggings because they increase loot %, so this is an amazing hard counter. Most people also prefer stealth approach to avoid retals.
  • Be sure to adjust attack setting sliders so melee (& possibly temp) are your primaries
  • Couple this with Riot Armor to mitigate melee damage

Battle Stats

  • Obvious point, but higher battle stats make you a more challenging target

Warring

  • I don’t know all the details on this, but there’s a new cooldown period to help mitigate merc influence during ranked wars. Some RR players use this immunity period to their advantage.

Scams

  • Don’t fall for people asking you to setup games or change game wager amounts

Tips

  • Redundant suggestion that bears repeating, using the money symbol will default to putting whatever is in your wallet as the wager amount. This saves on having to manually enter the amount.
  • Try to avoid becoming too predictable of a target
  • Leave money in ghost trade for a bit post hosp-out
  • Don’t host/join new games right away every time
  • If you aren’t self hosping during games, switch up game pace (within reason, otherwise your opponent might get annoyed)

Acts of Courage

This is 2x & 3x firing, or consecutive shots fired before opponent’s next turn

  • 2x unlocked after winning 25 games
  • 3x unlocked after winning 100 games

Forewarning some hosts after winning, will tee up another game for double the wager knowing you’ll join and then bang you with the 2x

  • This is only an issue for superstitious players that prefer to exchange clicks to maintain their system/flow

Anecdotally, some of my worst loss streaks have been intertwined with games where my opponent uses acts of courage

  • As a counter, you can follow their 2x with your own

Hosts can 2x while still limiting themselves to a maximum of 3 total clicks, those that join games can end up with a total of 4 clicks

  • If you think the results are predetermined and the animation is a sham then disregard this point
  • If you believe the clicks matter, then having an extra click puts you at a stark disadvantage

3x firing really only comes in handy for self hosping during war in a low stakes throwaway game

Etiquette

Muggers will DM you to expose your opponents, discretion is advised

2x firing is a bit taboo, and some may avoid you which further limits player pool

Coincidences happen, don’t assume opponent had something to do with your mugging unless verified first

Other Considerations

Given that RR is PvP and there’s a much smaller percentage of high networth players, larger games take considerably longer to find opponents to fill. Game availability is going to influence bet sizing, which thus creates strategy deviations.

If you refresh the page you can skip the cylinder animation, which shaves off a few seconds. Some people just use a script for this plus auto-clicking I believe. I'm a tryhard mobile player so I'm not the one to ask about scripts.

Be sure to be on a stable connection. Time outs will auto-lose the game.

When hosting a game, you can go back one screen to view all available games even while yours is pending. MOST of the time, when someone joins you will be redirected to the game.

Similar to the occasional redirect issue, sometimes it's necessary to continually refresh the page or it may still look like a pending game when there's actually an opponent waiting for you to time out.

Hosting games will increase enemy count, because that’s how many keep track of mug targets

Beggars will start DM’ing you for cash. Adjust chat settings as needed.

Tinfoil hat theories discuss hidden luck factor associated with player profiles as well as potential luck boost from praying. Haven’t gone down the rabbit hole on this, just putting it out there for those that want to do their own research.

Personal Statistics

Successful Ratio - 1.0246
Total Games Played – 4,523
Net Gain - $10 B

Poker Net Loss - Infinity and Beyond

Pretty abysmal net gain for the number of games played and risk exposure. I fell into many of the pitfalls and flew way too close to the sun. Looking at the leaderboard you’ll see the levels of success some players have attained, likely by staying disciplined.

Conclusion

The first few large RR games are a thrill, win or lose have fun with it and manage expectations. At some point, you’ll lose perspective as to why you’re playing and that’s when you need to take a break.

Self-exclusion is a great tool whether you need it or not, so take advantage.

GoodLUCK fellow degenerates tornizens.

rewards for holding territories should diminish over time. may cause termed territory wars so would need additional mechanic to disincentivize that possibility as well.

current mega alliance meta is dumb, but trying to operate outside the political framework is a death sentence. without game mechanic changes, there isn't much room for upheaval.
