[IS IT WORTH BEING A DIRECTOR] Decission helper · · 42 likes

Reasons I write this Thread:
In my (relatively) young age in Torn I met plenty - I mean PLENTY.- of people which wanted to own a company.
The promises of Quick and easy money, free Jobperks, endless Workstats are appealing.
With this Thread i want to provide some numbers to counter the myths that new players believe when they become a director.
TL;DR at the end.

My experience:
As I said i'm fairly new. I worked in different company so far and own an Adult Novelty since about 6 months.
Bought it at 8*, made some mistakes, decreased a bit, and increased a bit again. Now it's back at 8*
While this doesn't qualify me for "Experienced veteran level of Guidance" this is mainly oriented on new players.
I know I have a lot of rooms for improvement and optimisation but that's a problem of future me.

Target group:
New players without much experience, dabbling in the thought of starting/ buying their own company.

1. The Fundamentals:

"You have to finish all Education courses and you have to own all the investment stocks" (TGP and TCP stocks)
Everyone heard and believed that. But you are different. You can make it without all this stuff, right? Right?
Wrong.
That isn't some "recommended" stuff only top tier company need.
Without them your company is crippled enough so you make diminishing returns.

This was the first week after finishing all but one education. Owning no Investment stocks since "They're too expensive":

The numbers declined enough to decrease the star rating only a single week after becoming the director.
After that I finished the last edu course and bought all the stocks.

Conclusion: Education courses and Stocks aren't a recommendation but are mandatory to not fully ruin your wallet.

2. The workstats/ Jobpoints

You don't receive training.
18:07:59 - 14/07/25 You received 8 job points and gained 50 manual labor, 50 intelligence, and 50 endurance as director of Something Dirty
Edit:

1 star - 5 units of every working stat daily

2 stars - 10 units

3 stars - 20 units

4 stars - 35 units

5+ stars - 50 units

Job Points are the same as every employer earns (1 star rating = 1 Job Point)
You will get 150 Workstats everyday. No matter the company or star rating. But as an employee a single company train would earn you 75 workstat PLUS the roundabout 60-70 stats you get passively daily for your position.

Conclusion: being a director gives you about the same amount as every employee gets when they receive a single train a day.

3. The money

"It cost money to earn money". Well, yes. And i'm still waiting on the "earning money" part.
I started off with an Adult Novelty company since it was in my pricerange. There are company that earn way more but when you've got 10b$ to start a company this Guide isn't for you.

Costs:
Fixed costs:
Buying the company: 400M$ (can vary on the type of company. Building it yourself with all the upgrades will cost you nearly the same)
Buying TGP Stockblock: 356M$ as we speak
Buying TCP Stockblock: 512M$ as we speak.
(a little bit of funds in the company bank for the advertising budget and restocking: 50m$)

That's about 1.3B$ only to "set everything up"

variable costs:
Employees payment: 0$/day (At my company there is no payment since the perks pay more than I can afford to pay)
Advertising budget: 1M$/day (began at 2m$, now i'm at 1m$ since I didn't recognised a significant difference.)
Stock: 500K$/day (Refilling the stocks increases with sold products. this is an estimation)

That's 1.5M$ daily costs

Earnings:
current daily earnings: 1,7M$/day (yes. The daily earning getting eaten up by the variable costs. even after owning all Stocks and edus.)
earnings from selling trains: 3,2M$/day
(earning from Job Perks/ Job Points not factored in since you'd earn exactly the same as an employee)

That's 4,9M$/day

Total profit: 3,4M$ daily

Conclusion: a 3-month Bank invest of the fixed cost only (1.3B$) Would earn you 3,18M$/ day. only 300K$ less than running a company.

4. Everything else

You don't have to be afraid of accumulating addiction points so you're able to rehab at a slower rate. This makes life easier.
You have to manage which player is getting trained at what day, send out reminders when their addiction gets out of hand, hope none of them went offline for 2 days since this ruins the profit of the day or delay a star increasing. Look out for new employees when someone leaves, restock in time so you don't run low on items. This makes life harder.

Conclusion: You have to put way more work in it when you become a director. With some small benefits here and there.

Overall Conclusion and TL;DR:
-Education and Stocks are mandatory - not a "nice to have".
-The workstats are about the same as a regular employee gets.
-A well paying job would earn you more money than being a director of a second-class company.
-Running a company demands more attention than being an employee.

So why running a Company at all:
It is fun. Talking to your employees, feeling like you "own something", trying to progress and learn. improving the efficiency becomes relevant when you're the director.
Also that company isn't the end of the line. At some point it'll turn into a 10* company. With the collected experience you may move onward to run a bigger company one day.

19:49:16 - 19/08/24 You sent 5x Blank DVDs to BROOKS112

Here are the E Dvds. You just have to copy the porn onto it.
Ask in the Global chat on how to do that. It's rather easy

Begging section ·

this reminds me to much of another browsergame i played in the past.
the "begging" was a system that got abused by third party websites.
I'd say it didn't fit the theme of Torn but on the other hand you (a bil$ heavy walking warcrime) can search the dumb for some Shoes.

you could wear a motorcycle helmet with cat ears.

But there is a correct way to burn money.
10* LS go for about 900m$. OP Only has a networth of 200m$
Despite that he isn't even able to fly yet since he's level 13.
he could at most afford the startup and upgrade cost (~15m$) for a LS. and that's it.
Most companies don't make a single dollar profit before reaching 7*.

Everyone shares their total haul while the point was if FHCs are profitable.
Well at 1.7 treats/attack it isn't worth it since an FHC cost 14m$+ while earning 10,2 treats.
Which is about 8m$ worth of items on average.

Other way to look at it:
With nat E regen, Xanax, refills.... FHCs would boost your total E by about 30% for the whole event.
Is 30% of your earned goods > FHC cost?
For me it isn't.
But attacking and earning treats is fun. Profitable? no. Worth it? Yes

Halloween reward pool? ·

Since the candy ones cost 15 treats in total it's also no use of "saving the treats".
The slightly higher reward should made up for the Energy if you only exchange enough treats

When happy. Weights move easier
But when really heavy weights. Happy or not doesn't change much. Energy does.

How to prepare/do a war 1.0 EDIT: Please ignore · · 3 likes

I hope this was written by a AI. Since no one should write a guide when he obviously never played the game.

Here is the edited version:
Preparing for war:
1. Reach level 15 so you're able to hide out overseas. Finish the "intravenous therapy" education so you can hospitalise yourself.
1. Stack Energy (Your Natural Energy limit is 100 (or 150 with donator status which i recommend)). You can Stack to 1000.
Either take 3 xanax while you're at 150. For 900 Energy total.
Or deplete your Energy to Zero. take 4 xanax. For 1000 Energy total.

2. Take a look at the enemies. Level and "days old" is a good first estimation.
To see if you can beat them take a look at "played time", "Xanax taken", "elo rating". Compare it to yours. This will give a good feel.
Don't attack them before the war starts. that's wasted energy.

During war:
Disclaimer: Wars are Rope-pulling-like wars. Your faction has to lead a set amount to win the war. the goal declines with time.
1. Communication is key. Do you turtle (hiding in hospital)? Do you attack? hospitalize onliners? Listen to the calls of the leadership.
2. Longer chains are better since Milestone hits earn more. Communicate with your team to organize a larger chain.
3. Communicate with your faction. Does someone need help? Do you need to jump in to group attack a strong enemy? Communicate with your faction
4. Use the faction chat for communication.
