Hey there! First time suggester here, so take it easy on me. Apologies if the idea has been put forward already, it's not really groundbreaking stuff.
After the last DB update I was thinking if we changed the way it works a bit, that could help use some of the resources that are in excess in the game, give the bomber some more options to play with, and possibly increase chance of drama.
It's pretty simple, we could have a tier-based DB construction process. Let's say 3 tiers sounds nice and easy, but honestly I can see this working with a 2 or 5 tier too. It's just a matter of how much complexity you want to add to it.
So in this example, on Tier 1 you started making the bomb and that would be basically a weaker version of the current DB, maybe something like the old version and no other effects. Its quick to create and goes boom.
Fun starts at Tier 2, it should require double the resources to make a respectable impact. It would do damage similar to the current DB, but during its construction there would be the added effect of 1 to 5% chance of giving rad sickness to the members in the faction that's making it. We don't care about OSHA in Torn so leakages are expected. It takes a normal amount of time to make and its a respectable boom.
Tier 3 bomb would be massive. Takes a lot of resources , double t2 maybe? When starting this tier, leakages are stronger. Let's say 10 to 15% chance for territories around too. Also, it's too big to be hidden, so the news warning would go off as soon as someone enters this tier, warning the whole city about its construction even before priming. Way more time to make this one, but its a big big boom.
I think this would give more options to the bombers. Maybe they just want to fire a warning shot against another faction, so T1 bomb should cover it. If they want, they can invest to go T2, or go T3, but that could give the target a heads up on what's coming.
That's the gist of the idea, not sure about the balancing part and specific resource requirements, I think the devs can look into that.
Thanks for reading, cheers.

Thanks for opening this discussion! It's something I've also been curious about since I haven't had the opportunity to talk to many other faction leaders. It's tough work looking after your crew
The way my tenure started, I didn't buy or start a faction but, a lot like Cheesinater described, I was handed down this faction I joined with 700k about a month after we got to 1m. Me and me current co leader were very engaged new players and became quick buddies trying to get more merits and help our other mates, we ran games, helped with banking, watched all our chains - we were doing 2.5ks at the time lasting the whole weekend.
The faction was bought with a very small respect pool and was grown through the years, some of these members are still with us but most of the faction was run by my former lead. When I took over I mostly kept the same schedule for chains and wars, the games we make and our culture.
We wanted to keep the vibe we already had in the faction and just started expanding, I got help from my buddy and recruiting is, as many described, starts with greenleafs and after you begin to refine your process a bit. After a while, we started mostly accepting indications from members that meet other ppl.
On the way to that, we had quite a bit of luck. We are not really super strict about recruiting and will give most ppl a chance. We have a required number of hits but we understand irl comes first and can be quite flexible with it.
Im not sure I can measure the time, I spend most of the day here tbh lol phone addiction is real folks
Jks aside, theres always something to do but mostly I just want to hang out with my crew in chat, sometimes on discord while playing something else, that's what I like the most. The times when everyone is on and we're chaining and eating jello together in hosp during rw and having a blast
Banking is tough, not my favourite but I wouldn't say I hate or anything in particular. Some dramas can be quite draining, but I think you get better at snuffing it out before it even starts and knowing when to delegate some stuff is important. Trust your crew!
A lot of our crew invest a lot in the faction, either donating their stuff voluntarily, or using fhcs, ecans, sometimes needles out of pocket for chains and wars, not to mention all the people that worked on it from the start before I joined. I am lucky I joined when we were in a position that we already made enough money from wars and internal investments that we were comfortable doing our own thing and being independent. Me or my co lead would make prizes for chains and wars out of our pocket and for games too, but soon the faction started getting those responsibilities and others.
It has been, in my experience, a very rewarding experience that I totally recommend even if you don't have the inclination. I've never lead or hold any important position in a guild or something like that in any game. I try to think of my leadership as if Im narrating D&D for my friends, it's my job to make sure everyone is alright and having fun. How they get their fun, it's up to them within the story we are playing. Im just there to show how to get there.
I think the idea of going to an established faction first and making some friends before jumping on the leadership boat is a good idea, I guess one could luck out and getting incredibly good recruits right from the start, but it's a tough ask. And I can't see how to do it without a good amount of trusty, adventurous and very savvy mates.
I hope we get some more experiences here, this has been a very cool reading, thanks for everyone that posted. Cheers!

Very nice bazaar, thank you!
23:06:32 - 13/09/25 You bought an M4A1 Colt Carbine on J3NNA's bazaar at $1 each for a total of $1
First off, thank you very much for this tool! Im still figuring out everything i can do with it but just being able to have an overview of all the perks at the same time is awesome, it helps so much to plan where you are going. Thanks again, will keep messing with it and following for updates.
Now quick tip for ppl installing this as I haven't seen anyone mention it. This installer does not like running from a subfolder, so instead of downloading it to your downloads/games/tron/faction/tools/cool, just drop it on the desktop unzip and run the setup from that folder.
Cheers
It will be a busy month, but wth
Sign me up, let's give it a shot
Can confirm, has the best deals. Ty!

didn't find a guide specifically about group attacks and distraction, but imo the best way to learn about it is to join the loot rangers and get some hands on experience. best of luck
