Stock Market Trading - My Tips · · 13 likes

Similarly to real world, your goal is to buy low and sell high. Unlike real world markets that have volatility due to other people making up "Trader Sentiment", the game utilizes a system to emulate ups and downs in the market.

Whereas having merits in Interest Rate for bank deposits and a lengthy deposit period can provide high interest rates for passive returns, it ties up your money and while safe can potentially offer less returns than wise consistent investing. Now, this is my opinion, as I cannot provide any historical evidence, so I cannot claim it to be true at this time.

What I suggest for market trading is to have your time period set to 24 hours, which gives you an average total of what the stock was exactly 24 hours ago. Hourly volatility could see this having been higher or lower over that period, but I wouldn't suggest spending that much time monitoring a video game stock market. You look at the biggest losers and divide your investment across several positions. Depending on how much you have to work with, I'd suggest picking 5 positions.

Every day you can shuffle this positions and garner a varying return. If you have 4 winners and a loser you can double down and reinvest into your lower to raise your average share cost and decrease the time needed to return to your break even (You need 0.10% higher to exit at net neutral.)

Results will vary, but you could get several percentages of profit daily if your very active. However, the way that thos becomes potentially higher returns than locking your money up is to reinvest your gains to compound your profits. You have simple returns and compounded returns. Simple is pocketing your profit and reinvesting your initial capital whereas compounded returns are constant reinvestment that in turn have their own respective return of their own.

It's not a 100% safe method of making money but depending on what your returns are in your interest baring bank deposits, this method provides liquidity and with consistency, a higher return. Imagine getting a net 1% profit per day. If you take a simple return, that's 7% per week. If you reinvest and get compounded returns, that will be 7.21% return. These numbers grow more extreme as you continue over time, remaining consistent.

I am only a day 2 account, so I'll understand skepticism and cynicalism. If there's older seasoned players that want to chime in to add to the topic, please feel free to agree or disagree and expand on what I've mentioned if you choose.

Introduction to Self Defense is complete. Look out yall, I know just enough to get my arse properly kicked in a bar fight.

Now that I know how to properly block punches with my face, it's time for business classes. So I can effectively throw my money at a future business with the enthusiasm of a moth trying to touch the warm bright floaty thingy.

In all seriousness, aside from the minor bump in stats, I really do not see a major benefit from education besides the later tech and combat bonuses, which themselves aren't to my perspective a major changer in any fight. 1% buff to accuracy, 1% bonus to defense, etc. They all are better than nothing, but I feel like there needs to be some new investment into the education system. You can gain more stats in one work day than in any one week or longer education period.

Just my two pennies. Please, feel free to add to the conversation if you should wish. Just felt like being mildly amusing if possible while expressing my underwhelming response.

Real Estate Landlords - Is there a point? · · 7 likes

So, to preface, I lucked out and found multiple items at the dump that sold for 'premium' on the market. Coupled with some thrifty buying and reselling of goods, I made over a million.

Bought and renovated 10 apartments and a detached house for full upgrades. Ive put them on the market for pocket change on long term lease duration, but I've yet to get a bite after 24 hours on even a single property.

Is there even a real point in bothering with this? I thought it was a good idea but I'm beginning to believe I should just take the loss and attempt to sell to get points for opening stock market ticker access...

How do traders keep track of their profits? · · 2 likes

When you select the stock you've invested into it will display your total value, the purchase per share, your paper loss/gain, and the total gross loss/profit before sale. At sale you'll cost 0.10% and you can experience a net loss if you're selling at a less than 0.10% gain.

When you have multiple purchases of the same stock, you can check the boxes on multiple displayed entry-points and merge them to give you your new average.

This is the way to keep track of your total loss and gains.

A Sweet Side Hustle. · · 6 likes

Punny as the title is, does anyone else just raid the candy store and resale goods at a reasonable but higher than vendor price? I've seen some crazy prices people re-sale things for, but I figured this was just one of several ways to make some money.

I've found that 'Search for Cash' in the junkyard is another. Found some computer stuff that has gotten me some great returns.

I welcome all input and shared side hustles that anyone wishes to share.

You got what you expected OP. All the community came riding out on their tricycles to tell you that you're dumb, naive, and/or have a 'SkiLlZ ISsuE.'

Toxic community - one they happily agree to and claim. I get your intent and empathize, but you're throwing sand on a bonfire one fist full at a time with it here.

I've played for less than a month and personally decided the game isn't for me. Most will say 'As we expected' but ignore that this game by design really isn't for most people. If you have these issues and find them difficult to stand, then maybe it's also not for you despite your long time playing.

There's some great people. Charitable and considerate... and then there's the jerks who find amusement in bullying others and making the game needlessly harder for their own amusement. Ive met a few of the prior and plenty of the latter. Keep up your efforts if you want to stay around or spread the wealth and items to your friends, faction, and new players before you go on to more enjoyable games. Luck to you either way.

Oh just bite your tongue and Bleed out. You just said what I said without using a brain cell to realize it. You played multiple years, bam. I said it was unlikely that it would happen without dedicated years.

Gods, as toxic as this community is, I wish it was at least a third as f**king smart. You and every other dumbass with a 5th grade education just loves to chime in with your asinine commentary.

"ItS Up TO yoU iF YoU WaNT..." shut up, turd nugget. It isnt ignorant to make a broad statement. Whats ignorant is you making a dumb remark while proving my exact point. Sit down and if youre not going to shut up, at least read propwrly before speaking.

Any agreements between a significantly disproportionate power dynamic pair of groups is and should always be viewed with suspicion. From the outset agreeing to buy and sell ot split wars is childish and lazy. Fight and win or lose. I get jumped frequently by plenty of people who just don't like me on the forums. Shit happens. Wars are the type of shit that happens because you planned to be there for it.

If you can't equal up, you can't enforce your part of the bargain. Equally, scummy disingenuous scam behavior by others is inexcusable. It's poor business conducted by a lesser person. There were two listed warnings and less than a 30 minute window between them, followed by visibly celebratory mocking towards uninformed members in a idiotic fashion. There wasn't any reasonable period of time provided to reply before the decision was made to just not pay out.

No real effort was made to communicate with any real explanation, which shows a disinterest in an attempt and a clear end goal of renegging on terms due to irrelevant events that are not capable of changing the outcome.

By all accounts, this turns into a scam by evidence provided by the person attempting to prove innocence against such claims. The concept of selling out is foreign to me, but I can recognize a con licking his lips at the opportunity to peg a mark as a sucker because of technicalities.

How kind of you to have expectations! I, on the other hand, have little expected of you at all. You get addressed for your idiocy and then go on to double down on being a dumbass. You're neither clever nor funny. You've the depth of a shallow hole and the personality of a smooth rock. So you get f**ked, eat another turd biscuit, and stop letting the second asshole found on your face do the talking.

Businesses - Inherently Profitable or Money Pits? ·

Not in regards to the guides, but to the snide remark at the end. Furthermore, for essentially just agreeing to the remark that I am retarded, due to my interest in and thus reason for, asking about businesses.

The helpfulness doesn't cover up the unneeded insult. I asked questions before taking an action. I did not do the thing and then panic and complain about the thing after.

I know that it's common knowledge that a good portion of the community on Torn is marginally toxic... and I know that there's plenty of ego enough to go around thrice over... and I know that scams and the sort are allowed and encouraged... buy why are any deals being made at all? There's no way to trust the outcome because there's no way to enforce the agreements.

This is literally Backstabber Simulator 2. I cannot even have a pleasant conversation on a forums and you all are trusting one another over arguably some serious big game shit?

Just kill each other and call it square. This is a game. I cannot fathom selling losses, rigging wars, or any of that other pussyfooting stuff. Just win or eat the L.

Now if you all will excuse me, I have dinner reservations for myself and the crowd of internet tough guys who will want to one shot me because their so hardcore.

Amazing. You both woke up and instead of choosing to be constructive, helpful, and friendly, you decided to be a pair of not so clever asses. You almost managed a good reply, Sep, but way to go and f**k it up at the end.

Your lives must be undesirable and stressful if you're on here insulting and demeaning others who are trying to have an actual conversation. You both are likely the types who behave as internet tough guys; criticize and insult and say cliche 2rd rate goon lines like 'BuT YUo CaNT BeAt Me ThoUgH!'

Be a circus act somewhere else, you clowns.

Not that its a lot, but my networth is bout 64 million. I can get Tier 1 on at most 2 of the stock positions, but I do understand your meaning. I was entertaining a farm, which is to my understanding an energy intensive but straightforward business.

I have the 2nd business education going, which will give me the 5% employee effectiveness bonus, but yes they are time consuming.

My thoughts on the mater were to use the bank weekly interest to fund me my weeks wages for my employees and employ newer players in the same manner that I was graciously employed for far more than I was providing in terms of worth.

That provides me employees that are happily paid more than they'd make in a normal job, which is covered by my investments. As I continue to grow and increase my wealth organically, I can increase my passive income via stocks or further increasing my bank deposits, which can be used to replace inactive players with better ones that get higher wages.

Maybe it's foolish to do so upon hitting lv 10, but I am here for a fun time, not likely the multi-year time. So, I figure I may as well enjoy as many aspects of the game as I can and find more reasons to log in regularly.

Businesses - Inherently Profitable or Money Pits? ·

As the title implies I am asking as to whether businesses on 1 star generate any form of income, even if it is low, or is it unprofitable and generates $0.00 dollars until you've paid for advertisement, hired your employees, and gone through all the other aspects of the business management?

Is dexterity still important? ·

That's still a few hundred - nonetheless I was referring to the players with battle stats in the millions or billions. It is unlikely that he will get that high without dedicating years of active playing. So, just enjoy the game and play however is most enjoyable. That is my input here.

Stock Market - Volatility Update · · 2 likes

If the stock market was played driven, it would be more fluid and function with realistic risk that could translate to real substantial gains and losses. The fact that it is an algorithm that will fluctuate within a randomized parameter up to a high point lock and a low point lock, means limited upside and downside potential.

As such, unless you're actively day trading, you'd make more with weekly bank investments, as those each can be more than you'd gain if you left the same amount in a stock ticker for 7 days. The only caveat is if you dividends AND no merits in Interest rates. If you don't boost your interest rates, then dividends will likely pay you more value every distribution period.

Just my input.

Is dexterity still important? ·

I'll simplify it ...

There is not likely to be more than a few dozen to a few hundred players who have been around for more than 10 years.

Is dexterity still important? · · 2 likes

As someone who doesn't intend on trying to min-max to become Torns greatest Street fighting underboss... I see many vouching for either Dex builds or Defense builds. I think a well rounded stat build is important and makes you a middle of the line player, but I doubt I or you will ever need to worry about this as deeply as others.

In all realism, the likelihood of you and I being here years from now is low. Theres folks who've been here since day one and even they're likely to be no more than double digits or a hundred or so... and we ain't touching them or the thousands that are slightly below their level anyhow.

Just play for fun, man. Min maxing ain't going to get you anywhere unless you're here for years.

Tried doing the statistics and got a lime graph with my different inputs. Overall, I have chump change, but good profits compared to losses with a high net profit line.

Thought of doing a screen shot but my age doesn't give a good visual for the 1 month time period and won't communicate much info.

Thank you for your input and encouragement. I'm managing a 1st tier holding with a monthly payout, so I may consider buy and holding for awhile just for the passives. If I get better opportunities that encourages more active trading then I'll see about sharing in the future when I have a more rounded out time period to display.

To be fair, I did end my post by stating that I am new to this game. I am however not new to investing, so the concepts aren't unfamiliar. I also read that the market in game is on an algorithm and the prices aren't dictated by the buying and selling of shares by players. So, it isn't too hard to write about it.

What's cringe is a few people get an elitist syndrome and start insulting and demeaning others. What luck do I need for an online game? If this is your identity and you get an ego boost here, then you have a whole different set of issues.

It seems acceptable to be rude, so I can understand if a lack of common etiquette is just as common. The pretentious behavior belongs to you and the other dynamic duo. Presumptious commentary, unnecessary insults, and patronizing behavior, whereas you and they could've easily kept moving on to the next thread without sharing your undesired and unhelpful statements. You've added nothing to the topic. You should buy a plant and carry it around with you and apologize to everyone for wasting the oxygen you breath.

You're neither witty nor clever. You have the depth of a shallow hole and the personality of a smooth rock. Go outside more often.

I don't think you really can catch up to a certain 'quality' of Torn veterans. If they're active then odds are they're doing things that constantly slinky you further away anyhow. But regardless, most people play games casually - myself included. I've been lectured and criticized for saying so. Part of the problem may include some of the more senior toxic community members that insult and berate newcomers. I'm too new to have any viewpoint that can be considered sound, but I can easily rant. But I won't. No one would read that much.
