torn.report/discord
I wanted something to track my progress during the Trick or Treat event by pulling the relevant logs and combining the data into something easier to understand at a glance. With Halloween approaching, I still could not find anything like that, so I set out to make it. After I was done with Halloween, I wanted to see more and now we’re here.
I was initially making this for personal use, but I figured I might as well flesh it out and share it with everyone. At the very least, it may inspire someone to make something better.
What’s this?
torn.report is a collection of reports to gauge your luck or performance. So far, the following are available: Trick or Treat, Looting, Mugging, City Finds, Organized Crimes, Supply Packs, Crimes, Dump Search, Energy, Poker, Armor Cache, Black Friday, Christmas Town, Slots, and more.
You also have the option to download complete individual logs or log categories as CSV or JSON files to make your own analysis.
What can I do with this?
You can see how much you made (or lost) from looting, trick or treating, mugging, city finds, supply packs, armor caches, crimes, poker, Black Friday, Christmas Town, etc.
You can get a breakdown of all the items you received from looting, exchanging treats, opening supply packs, city finds, dump searches, crimes, Black Friday sales, Christmas Town, etc.
You can see your mugging, crime or OC total count, success streak, failure rate, and more.
You can use the date range filter to view all of the above at different periods:
- How much did you make from Jimmy or (insert your favorite mug target here) in 2020?
- Did Ched nerf your supply pack income at a certain point, or have they always been a scam?
- Did your city finds get noticeably worse after (insert date you were convinced awareness upgrades don’t work and removed them here)?
- Did you have a better mugging streak last year?
- I think you get the point.
Safety
Because I am not keen on the idea of potentially having the entirety of my Torn activity saved on some server other than Torn’s own, I opted for a static site, having the data stored in browser storage and processing everything locally.
This means no servers other than Torn’s will ever touch your data. Your data goes straight from Torn to your browser and is never sent anywhere else. The same goes for your API key, it is never sent to or saved on any server other than Torn’s.
I will never have access to your key or your data.
For your convenience, your API key is saved in your browser so you don’t have to enter it every time, but this comes with a certain risk: any script you install could access the saved key if they wanted to. This is the case for every tool saving your API key in your browser.
The risk is low if you only install scripts from people you can trust but using separate temporary keys is still recommended for the extra peace of mind. The data is tied to your user ID, so you won’t have to reload everything if you change your key.
Limitations
If you use other API tools or services, you may hit the 100 individual requests per minute limit. You can adjust the maximum requests per minute on the Settings page to prevent that.
First load on the Crimes, Energy, and Poker report will most likely be very long due to the large number of entries.
Because it was built using my log contents, some things may be buggy for you. This is also a limiting factor, e.g. I haven’t received any nerve or happy from exchanging treats (why spend precious treats on those upgrades?), so you won’t find that on the Halloween page.
Because everything is done locally, the performance will vary depending on your device. It runs fine on all my devices, though a little slower on my non-flagship phone from 2019.
Since I don’t expect people to use this for trading or anything needing up-to-date prices, item values are only refreshed every 24 hours.
Tables are best viewed on larger devices.
I know that I know nothing
By sharing it with everyone, the hope is that errors can be found and fixed. Anyone can suggest fixes, ideas, and point me toward any more advanced analyses they want to see.
What’s next?
While it is functional, there are still things I need to optimize here and there.
I’m also open to suggestions on what you want to see next.
How do I use this?
It should be fairly straightforward to use.
The only things I can think of to mention are:
- The date range filter in the top left uses your local time, not TCT.
- There’s a table view toggle in the top left on certain reports (Trick or Treat, Loot, City Finds, Dump Search, etc.).
- There are filters to toggle item visibility on certain reports (Supply Packs, OCs, Crimes, Poker).
- You can tap or hover on charts for tooltips with more details.
- You can drill down on Multilayer sunbursts by clicking or tapping on the first or second level.
- You can use the hamburger button on charts to open them full screen, download the chart data as CSV, or download a more detailed image to share.
- You can click on an entry on the Mug Summary table to expand that row and see the current info with a link to that user’s profile and a complete list of mugs for that user.
Screenshots are in dark mode, but light mode is also available if you prefer that.
