I've been producing retropop/synthpop music for a few years, and I don't use any ai to make my music. It's heavily inspired by 80's synthpop/new wave, but with modern pop production. At least that's what I'm going for anyway.
I was just curious if there are any other musicians or producers here, what kind of music do you make? I could talk about music and music production all day.
If anyone is interested, I could share some of my music.
Ai as a tool is fine, and it can be helpful. Maybe you're not familiar with a certain scale and ask ai to list all the chords, or you use ai to help organize a mailing list.
Those things are fine because, imo, ai was supposed to do the boring and mundane tasks so we could have more time to do the things we love, like making music, painting, playing video games etc. Ai shouldn't be used to make art. The human side of art is what makes art beautiful.
I hear a lot of ai "artists" say that people like me are just "gatekeeping". Gatekeeping what? I'm not at your house knocking that pencil out of your hand so you can't learn draw. I'm not hiding your guitar so you can't learn to play.
"But I have a disability!" So did Ray Charles, or Tom Yendell (Born without hands and paints with his feet). If they can do it then there are no excuses.
I love death metal and metalcore! My favorite death metal band has to be The Black Dahlia murder. Oceano, Thy Art Is Murder are tough, and the emotion that Garret Russell’s vocals bring with Silent Planet are sooo good!
I make electronic Synthwave/Retro Pop music and a lot of my melodies come from the way I used to write guitar riffs.
I love those bands! Alice have some great songs as well as Tools whole Undertow album.
I can imagine using real instruments and recording takes a lot of times I make electronic music, so I have everything I need in my DAW so I’m able to finish a lot of songs. I have worked with other musicians on a few collabs, but they sent me the stems of guitar and bass, so all I had to do was mix it.
that sucks about the phone. Do you write the ideas down? I used to play and I would write my ideas in tablature.
