Smoke and a pancake?
With 4/20 day fast approaching, I wanted to run a weed-based competition, and I thought a Dutch Auction would fit the theme!
If you haven't seen one before, it's simply an auction where the lowest unique bid wins. So if there are multiple bids at 1, 2 and 3, but you're the only person who bids 4, then you win the prize - even if someone else bid a hundred.
How to play
Easy: send me some cannabis. However many units you send in one go, that's your bid. Enter as many times as you like, but don't send the same number twice! Entries will close at 08:00 TCT on the 19th of April (so that I can send the winner their prize in time for the start of the 4/20 event).
Here's how you send a quantity of cannabis from your Items tab:
- Click the paper aeroplane icon to open the Send panel
- Enter either my name (Mr_Toke) or my ID (3210644) in the User ID box
- Enter your bid as the Amount you're sending
- Click SEND

The whole pot. Every last nug of cannabis I receive. Plus, I have seeded it with 1000 cannabis to get us started:

How will you pick the winner?
This will be done purely from my logs (I'll write a script for this tonight), to collate all the bids and show the lowest unique one. For transparency I plan to publish all the bids after the competition closes, but if there's a strong preference against this from the majority of players then I'll respect it.
Why should we trust you?
I appreciate this is my first thread, and most of you don't know me. Plus of course it's Torn - worse than that, it's the Torn Forums - and my profile says I'm a Celebrity Thief. Not a great look. That's one of the reasons I picked Cannabis as the currency for this compo, rather than Xanax, so that it's not a significant financial risk for anyone to enter. I want to start to build trust here, and I think the gamblers of Torn (if you're in this subforum, that's you!) will enjoy this. For what it's worth, I make my money by mugging players who already quit the game.
How much of the pot goes to you?
Zero. Not even the seeds and stems.
So what's in it for you?
As I mentioned above, I'd like to build trust here, with the aim that I'll run these competitions regularly, and eventually earn the right to charge a small rake.
How can I make the pot bigger without putting in more of my own grass?
Spread the word, encourage your friends and factionmates to enter. More players, more bids, bigger prize.
If I send you a billion dollars, will you pick me as the winner?
Definitely, you should send it to me now before someone else does.

Do's and Don'ts
Do think carefully about your bids. This is a game of skill as well as luck. Feel free to bluff, or double-bluff, about your bids in the comments.
Don't send me custom instructions in a message with your bid. As I said above, the bids will be collated by a script looking at how many units of cannabis were sent to me in each transaction. So if you send me 10 cannabis with a message saying "I bid 2 and 8", then sorry but your bid is 10.
Do have a go! It's a bit of fun, it shouldn't cost you much to enter (unless you want to take a carpet-bombing approach to bidding), and you might just win a load of green.
Don't put your cannabis into a parcel. But to the person who already did this, I'll manually add your bid in at the end.
