I first learned to play poker when I was young, with my dad as my teacher. As I got more into it, I started teaching myself again, and eventually, I learned from actual winners. I grew up playing home sit-and-gos. My first job was dealing poker at a local casino, during this time I played a lot of multi-table tournaments (MTTs) and cash games.

I met a long-term partner and many of my friends through poker. I've had a few reasonable cashes and decent cash sessions. Technically, I'd say I'm a pretty good player, but mentally, I'm pretty weak.

Honestly, it's hard not to feel like something shifted after that – like he started trying to Americanise, losing a bit of that unique Sheffield edge that made those early records so special.

There are countless bands out there producing music and putting on shows that have that same electrifying energy as early AM gigs. And keep your eyes peeled for The Slates. These lads are a young band from Sheffield with serious talent and potential. They've got that raw energy and songwriting promise that makes you think they genuinely could be the next big thing to come out of the city that gave us the Monkeys. Get onto them now! The future of UK indie is looking bright.
