Chapter 1: The Double Life of Kevin Torn

Torn City—gritty, unforgiving, and teeming with opportunity for those brave enough to seize it. Crime is the lifeblood that pulses through its chaotic streets, where factions wage war over territory, and no one’s secrets are safe. In this urban battlefield, Kevin Torn reigns as a master manipulator and street-smart scammer, thriving in the shadows where few dare to tread.

By day, Kevin blends seamlessly with the city’s elite. With his sharp dress and quick wit, he could easily be mistaken for a respectable businessman. But by night, he becomes something far more sinister: a digital thief and ruthless mugger. His fingers dance over keyboards as he cracks the passwords of high-profile residents, draining bank accounts and slipping through firewalls with an ease that seems almost supernatural.

Yet, despite his dark exploits, Kevin is rarely seen alone. He moves with a partner in crime, an unlikely companion who adds a peculiar charm to the duo’s misdeeds—Kubiii, his husband. Kubiii’s shy demeanor and gentle disposition might lead strangers to think he’s just a tag-along. In reality, he’s the quiet engine driving their operations, the one who takes the stolen money and transforms it into legitimate investments, growing their empire behind the scenes.

Their bond is an enigma in itself: Kevin, a ruthless operator with a love for chaos, and Kubiii, a wealthy heir who fell for the thrill of Kevin’s dangerous lifestyle. It was Kevin’s energy that captivated Kubiii, dragging him out of his shell and into the maelstrom of Torn City’s underworld. And though Kubiii often finds himself anxious in the face of their schemes, he never hesitates to stand by Kevin’s side. The thrill of conquest, after all, is a shared passion.

Tonight, Kevin and Kubiii sit in a dimly lit café, plotting their next move. The place is small, nondescript—an ideal spot for planning heists away from prying eyes.

“Three accounts last week,” Kevin murmurs, sliding his tablet across the table. “High-profile, easy to crack. We’re up by 1.2 million.”

Kubiii’s eyes widen slightly behind his glasses. “That’s… a lot, Kev,” he whispers, his voice tinged with both admiration and worry.

“And it’s only going to get better.” Kevin’s grin is feral. He leans back, eyes sparkling with ambition. “I found a new target. An old businessman with a history of underreporting his earnings. We get in, drain his accounts, and get out clean.”

Kubiii fidgets with his hands—a familiar nervous gesture. “But what about Neeny? You know he’s going to want a cut.”

Kevin’s expression darkens at the mention of their faction leader. Neeny—the lazy, greedy bastard who led the Arcadian Rangers—always seemed to show up when there was profit to be made, yet disappeared when real work was needed. If it weren’t for Fraser, Neeny’s brother and the faction’s true backbone, Kevin would have considered leaving the Rangers long ago.

“Neeny’s a parasite. He takes, and he never gives,” Kevin says, voice low and edged with irritation. “But don’t worry about him. We’ll keep this between us. As far as he knows, we’re just small-timers, hustling like everyone else in Torn City.”

Kubiii nods hesitantly. Though he understands the game they’re playing, he’s always nervous when it comes to defying Neeny. “I’ll handle the laundering,” he whispers. “Just… be careful, okay?”

Kevin reaches across the table, his touch gentle on Kubiii’s arm. “Hey. You worry too much. With you on my side, no one can touch us.”

Despite himself, Kubiii smiles softly. “Ok… let’s hope you’re right.”

With the plan set, Kevin and Kubiii make their way to a back alley, where Kevin’s street-level skills come into play. Torn City’s labyrinthine network of alleyways is his playground. He moves like a ghost, slipping between shadows and emerging behind unsuspecting targets. A quick shove, a harsh whisper, and the wallets are his before anyone can react.

Tonight, though, he’s looking for information rather than a quick payday. He corners a low-level hacker known for trading secrets, extracting the businessman’s security protocols with a combination of threats and cold cash.

“Tell Neeny I never saw you,” the hacker mumbles, trembling under Kevin’s predatory gaze.

“You didn’t,” Kevin replies smoothly, pocketing the information. “But if you do… I’ll know.”

With that, he disappears into the night, leaving the hacker gasping for breath.

Back at their penthouse, Kubiii sits in front of his laptop, meticulously organizing the data Kevin gathered. The businessman’s accounts are complex, but with Kubiii’s financial expertise, each account’s vulnerabilities are laid bare.

“He’s been hiding assets offshore,” Kubiii murmurs, adjusting his glasses. “I can pull those funds into a shell account… he won’t even notice it’s gone until it’s too late.”

Kevin watches Kubiii work, pride swelling in his chest. They make a formidable team—one of brains, brawn, and unwavering trust. But they’re not without enemies, both inside and outside the Arcadian Rangers.

And with Neeny prowling around like a vulture, waiting to swoop in on their success, Kevin knows that the path to power and moolah in Torn City will only grow more dangerous from here.

But that’s just the way Kevin likes it.

Afterword

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this little journey into the world of my imagination. I want to clarify that this story is purely fictional—any resemblance to real people, places, or events is entirely coincidental.

Honestly, I wrote this out of boredom. Sometimes, the best way to pass the time is by getting lost in creating something, and this story is the result. I never expected it to go this far, but once I started, I couldn't stop. If you’ve made it this far, I truly appreciate your time and interest.

Whether you loved it, hated it, or felt something in between, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Writing is always more fun when you can share it with others and learn from the feedback. Who knows? Maybe this won’t be the last time I write out of boredom!

Thanks again for sticking with me until the end.

Chapter 8: New Beginnings

The sun set over Torn City, casting long shadows across the streets that buzzed with the hum of a bustling nightlife. For the first time in months, there was a sense of optimism in the air. Kevin Torn, newly appointed leader of the Arcadian Rangers, stood on the rooftop of their makeshift headquarters, surveying the sprawling urban expanse below. His heart raced with the thrill of possibility.

“Look at this place,” he murmured, leaning against the rail as the city’s neon lights flickered to life. “We can finally make it ours.”

Beside him, Kubiii smiled softly, his presence a calming counterbalance to Kevin’s fiery ambition. “I never thought we’d actually do it, you know? Take down Neeny and turn this faction around.” His voice was tinged with disbelief, yet he radiated pride.

Fraser joined them, excitement palpable in his expression. “And we’ve got the backing of everyone. They believe in us. They’re ready for change.” His words were a testament to the months of hard work they’d put in since the coup, solidifying their position and rebuilding trust among the members.

“I know we can do this,” Kevin replied, his voice firm. “But we have to stay one step ahead. Neeny won’t take this lying down.” The memory of their former leader's threats lingered like a dark cloud, reminding them of the challenges still ahead.

As they strategized their next moves, the atmosphere buzzed with energy. The Arcadian Rangers were reinvigorated, shedding the weight of Neeny’s mismanagement. They had begun to forge new alliances with other factions, and their reputation for cunning schemes was rapidly spreading throughout Torn City.

But the air grew heavy with tension when a familiar face appeared at the door. Neeny, his usual bravado tempered by a thin veneer of desperation, stood framed in the entrance. The room fell silent, the previous buzz dissipating like smoke.

“Kevin,” Neeny called out, his voice laced with a mix of anger and something else—fear? “I came to talk.”

Kevin exchanged a glance with Fraser and Kubiii, his heart pounding as he stepped forward. “What do you want, Neeny? You’ve lost. Just accept it.”

Neeny straightened, his posture defiant yet vulnerable. “I want to propose a deal. You don’t have to be enemies. I can help you if you let me back in.”

Laughter erupted from the gathered Rangers, echoing off the walls. “Help?” someone shouted. “You’ve stolen from us too many times!”

Fraser crossed his arms, skepticism written all over his face. “You can’t just expect us to trust you again after everything you’ve done. You brought this upon yourself.”

Neeny’s expression twisted, frustration bubbling to the surface. “You’re going to regret this! Torn City isn’t safe for you without me!”

Kevin’s resolve hardened. “You think you can intimidate us again? That’s the old way. We’re done with that. You’re not a leader; you’re a liability.”

“Then let’s settle this like we should have a long time ago.” Neeny’s voice dropped low, his demeanor shifting from pleading to menacing. “I’ve got allies of my own. You won’t see it coming.”

With that, he turned to leave, but Kevin called after him. “You don’t get to walk away. If you want this fight, we’ll give it to you.”

Neeny paused, glancing over his shoulder with a smirk. “You’ve made a grave mistake, Kevin. Enjoy your power while it lasts.”

As Neeny’s footsteps echoed down the hallway, a sense of foreboding filled the room. Kubiii looked up at Kevin, concern etched on his face. “Do you think he really has allies?”

Kevin took a deep breath, rallying his thoughts. “We can’t let fear dictate our actions. We’ll prepare for anything he throws at us. We have to stay united.”

Fraser nodded, determination sparkling in his eyes. “Let’s gather our resources. If Neeny thinks he can undermine us, he’s in for a surprise.”

Over the next few days, they tightened their defenses, solidifying their ranks and reaching out to other factions to warn them of Neeny’s impending return. Every Ranger stepped up, showing their commitment to the new leadership.

Then one night, just as the city lit up with the promise of another hectic evening, chaos erupted. Neeny’s allies, a ragtag group of disgruntled faction members and petty criminals, stormed the headquarters, throwing the doors open with a crash.

“Time to take back what’s mine!” Neeny yelled, flanked by a few faces Kevin recognized as former Rangers turned enemies.

But the Arcadian Rangers had been expecting them. As Neeny’s crew advanced, Kevin shouted orders, rallying his people to fight back.

Kubiii, surprisingly fierce in the chaos, positioned himself near the entrance. “I won’t let them get past me!” he yelled, deflecting a blow aimed at Kevin with an agility that shocked even him.

“Fraser, flank left!” Kevin commanded, adrenaline surging as he fought alongside his comrades, his heart racing. They had become a well-oiled machine, the months of camaraderie paying off as they stood united against Neeny’s attack.

The battle was fierce, but with every blow they exchanged, Kevin felt their resolve strengthen. They were no longer just a faction; they were a family.

As dawn broke over Torn City, the remnants of Neeny’s attack lay scattered on the ground. The few remaining members of his group had retreated, and Kevin stood victorious, panting but exhilarated.

Neeny, nursing a wound and retreating into the shadows, shouted back, “This isn’t over, Kevin! I’ll be back, and I’ll take what’s mine!”

“Not if we have anything to say about it!” Kevin yelled after him, the exhilaration of victory coursing through his veins.

With the threat behind them, the Rangers regrouped, a mixture of celebration and relief hanging in the air. Kevin looked around at the faces of his friends, his comrades, and his husband, who stood together, proud and unyielding.

“We did it,” Kubiii said softly, tears of joy glimmering in his eyes.

“Yeah, we did,” Kevin replied, pulling him into a tight embrace. “This is just the beginning. We’ve taken back our power, and we won’t let anyone take it from us again.”

Fraser joined them, wrapping an arm around both of them. “Together, we can do anything. We’ll build something that lasts.”

As they stood there, united against the rising sun, a sense of hope filled the air. The Arcadian Rangers were reborn, stronger and more resilient than ever before.

With Kevin, Kubiii, and Fraser at the helm, they were ready to face whatever challenges Torn City had in store for them. They had turned the page on their past, ready to write a new chapter, together.

Chapter 7: Showdown in Torn City

The atmosphere in the old gym crackled with tension, a palpable mix of fear and defiance as Neeny glared at Kevin and Fraser. The members of the Arcadian Rangers, gathered tightly in the space, exchanged glances filled with uncertainty, each one wondering where their loyalties would lie.

“Seriously, what do you think you’re doing?” Neeny scoffed, crossing his arms. His voice dripped with condescension as he scanned the faces of his faction members, trying to gauge the room's temperature. “You think you can just band together and throw me out? I built this faction!”

Kevin took a step forward, his heart pounding, but determination steeling his resolve. “You built it on lies and deceit, Neeny. It’s time we take back control from someone who only looks out for himself.”

Fraser echoed Kevin’s sentiment, his voice calm yet assertive. “This isn’t just about you anymore. We deserve a leader who’s invested in the future of the Arcadian Rangers, not just their own pockets.”

The room erupted into murmurs of agreement. Kevin felt a rush of adrenaline. They were turning the tide.

Neeny’s face flushed with anger, and he clenched his fists. “You think you can just waltz in here and make demands? You’re nothing without me, you little thieves!” His eyes flicked to the group assembled behind Kevin, assessing their loyalties.

“Remember the last time you had our backs?” a voice called from the crowd, and Kevin recognized Jenna. “You left us in the lurch! We’re done being your pawns!”

A chorus of supportive shouts filled the gym, drowning out Neeny’s protests. Kevin’s heart raced with hope as he felt the group unite against Neeny’s bullying.

“Let’s vote! Now!” Kevin shouted, rallying the crowd’s energy. “We’ll let the majority decide. If you believe Neeny is the right leader for us, vote for him. But if you think we deserve better, vote for change!”

Neeny laughed scornfully, but it was a nervous laugh. “You think this is going to change anything? I’ve got friends in high places. You’re just a bunch of street rats!”

Fraser stepped forward again, his tone unwavering. “Friends who are probably just as greedy as you are. It’s time for you to face the consequences of your actions.”

As the crowd erupted in agreement, Neeny’s expression hardened. He turned to his enforcers. “You two, get these losers out of my gym!”

Kevin braced himself for a fight, but before Neeny’s goons could react, Kubiii stepped forward, a rare flash of bravery lighting up his eyes. “You’re not going to intimidate us anymore, Neeny! We’re done playing by your rules!” His voice, though soft, carried an uncharacteristic strength that surprised everyone.

Neeny’s eyes widened, and in that moment, the crowd surged with confidence. They could feel the power shifting, and it fueled their resolve.

“Let’s settle this with a vote!” Kevin declared again, his voice stronger now. “Everyone who wants Neeny as our leader, raise your hand!”

A few reluctant hands went up, but they were quickly drowned out by the majority, hands shooting up for Kevin and Fraser. The cheers and shouts of support filled the gym, and the energy was electric.

“Now, for those who want change!” Kevin prompted, and every hand but Neeny’s shot up, creating a wave of unity that washed over the space.

“Look at this, Neeny! You’ve lost control,” Fraser said, feeling empowered. “Your time is up. It’s time for a new direction.”

The realization settled in Neeny’s eyes, and for a fleeting moment, vulnerability flickered across his face before anger took over again. “You think this will stick? I’ll have you all thrown in jail! You’re nothing without my protection!”

Kevin stepped forward, his own anger bubbling to the surface. “We’ll take our chances. We’re not afraid of you anymore.”

“Then you’ll regret this!” Neeny spat, turning to leave. “You’ll see what happens when you betray me!”

But Kevin knew there was no going back now. With Neeny gone, the gym erupted into cheers, the members high-fiving and embracing one another. The energy in the room transformed from fear to exhilaration, a wave of relief washing over them.

Fraser raised his hands for silence. “Let’s celebrate, but remember: we have work to do. We need to rebuild our faction. We need to support one another and ensure that Neeny can’t undermine us again.”

As they began to strategize, Kevin felt a sense of freedom he hadn’t experienced in a long time. They were finally on the path to restoring the Arcadian Rangers to their former glory, without Neeny’s oppressive presence looming over them.

With the vote secured and the crowd buzzing with excitement, Kevin, Fraser, and Kubiii gathered in a huddle, planning their next steps.

“We need to tighten our ranks,” Fraser suggested. “Make sure everyone is loyal and understands the vision we’re creating. No more half-hearted members.”

Kubiii nodded enthusiastically. “And we should reach out to other factions. We can establish alliances and share resources. Neeny’s not the only one who will try to undermine us.”

“Absolutely,” Kevin replied, his mind racing. “And we need to establish new operations. Start small, rebuild trust, and then we can move on to bigger jobs. Neeny will likely try to take revenge, so we need to be prepared.”

The night wore on as they plotted and planned, the atmosphere thick with determination and hope. Members of the Arcadian Rangers began to file out of the gym, high on the rush of their victory. Many stayed behind to lend a hand, helping Kevin, Kubiii, and Fraser create a new structure for their faction.

As the sun began to rise, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, Kevin felt a renewed sense of purpose. They were no longer just surviving; they were ready to thrive, to reclaim their place in the dangerous landscape of Torn City.

But as they solidified their plans, a sense of foreboding lingered in the air. Neeny was not the type to back down easily. The storm of retribution would be coming, and they had to be ready.

Kevin glanced at Kubiii, who was deep in thought, a gentle smile gracing his face as he looked around at their comrades. “We did it, Kevin. We really did it.”

“Yeah, but the fight isn’t over yet,” Kevin replied, determination lighting his eyes. “Neeny will come for us. We need to be prepared.”

With a shared glance, they both knew they were in this together. No matter what came next, they would face it as a united front. And for the first time in a long while, Kevin felt like they might just come out on top.

Chapter 6: Rising from the Ashes

The sun dipped below the jagged skyline of Torn City, casting long shadows that twisted like the ambitions of its inhabitants. Kevin Torn sat at the small kitchen table in their dimly lit apartment, rifling through the hastily gathered evidence against Neeny. Kubiii flitted nervously around the room, occasionally peering over Kevin's shoulder, but his usual shyness was tinged with a new resolve.

“We can’t let this go on,” Kevin said, his voice low but filled with determination. “Neeny’s been stealing from the faction for too long. It’s time to show everyone what kind of leader he really is.”

Kubiii placed a reassuring hand on Kevin’s back. “But what if it backfires? Neeny has connections. He could turn the entire faction against us.”

Kevin met his husband’s gaze, his eyes fierce. “We’ve already seen the cracks in his leadership. It’s now or never, Kubiii. If we wait, he’ll just get bolder. We need to gather as much support as we can before he gets wind of our plans.”

“Okay,” Kubiii said, his voice steadying. “Let’s do this. I’ll talk to a few of the others. Maybe I can convince them to come to our side.”

As Kubiii gathered his belongings, Fraser arrived, looking more determined than ever. “I spoke to a couple of members on my way here. They’re tired of Neeny’s bullshit, but they’re scared of what he might do if they side with us.”

Kevin nodded, acknowledging the reality of their situation. “We need to make it clear that this isn’t just about us. It’s about the future of the Arcadian Rangers. We have to show them that Neeny’s greed will only lead to more chaos.”

Fraser sat down at the table, his brow furrowing in thought. “I’ve been thinking, too. If we can get everyone together, we can present the evidence and have a vote. They can see the truth for themselves.”

“I’ll work on getting everyone to a safe place,” Kubiii added, a hint of excitement in his voice. “Maybe the old gym? It’s neutral territory, and I think we can keep it under wraps.”

“Perfect. We can lay out our case, and then rally them to our side,” Kevin said, feeling a sense of camaraderie bolstering his spirits. “But we need to move quickly. Neeny might already be aware that something’s brewing.”

Fraser nodded. “I can keep an eye on him. If I hear anything, I’ll let you know. We need to be careful.”

As Kubiii left to rally support, Kevin and Fraser began organizing their evidence. The small apartment buzzed with tension as they strategized, pouring over documents and data that could expose Neeny’s fraudulent activities.

Hours passed, and as darkness enveloped the city, Kubiii returned, a mix of nervousness and determination etched across his face. “I spoke to several members. They’re on board but need convincing. I told them to meet at the gym tonight.”

“Great work, Kubiii,” Kevin said, his confidence bolstered by his husband’s initiative. “We’ll need to make sure they understand what’s at stake.”

Fraser stood up, ready to take charge. “Let’s head over. We need to set up before they arrive. I’ll take the lead in presenting the evidence.”

As they made their way to the old gym, the streets were alive with the usual hustle of Torn City—muffled conversations, distant sirens, and the sounds of people engaged in their own schemes. The city was a hotbed of danger, and each corner held a potential threat.

When they arrived at the gym, it was dimly lit, but a few flickering lights illuminated the space. Kevin and Fraser began arranging the evidence on a makeshift table, trying to create an atmosphere that felt both professional and urgent.

“Do you think Neeny knows what’s going on?” Kubiii asked, biting his lip nervously as he helped set up.

“Not yet,” Kevin replied, his mind racing. “But we have to move quickly. If he catches wind of this before we gather enough support, he’ll come after us. I’m sure he has eyes everywhere.”

As the hour grew late, members of the Arcadian Rangers began to filter into the gym, their expressions wary but curious. Kevin felt a mix of excitement and anxiety as he prepared to face the crowd. They were all familiar faces, fellow criminals bound together by their shared aspirations and grudges.

Fraser stepped forward, commanding attention with his genuine demeanor. “Thank you all for coming on such short notice. We have important matters to discuss regarding our faction’s future.”

The murmurs quieted, and all eyes turned to Fraser as he gestured to the table laden with documents. “We’ve uncovered evidence that Neeny has been stealing from the Arcadian Rangers. He’s been siphoning off funds, leaving many of us without support in our times of need.”

A ripple of disbelief spread through the crowd, mixed with murmurs of agreement. Kevin could feel the tension in the air, thick with apprehension but also anticipation.

“We’re not here to tear down what we’ve built,” Fraser continued, his voice steady. “We’re here to reclaim our faction and make it stronger. Neeny’s greed has put us all at risk.”

Kevin stepped up beside Fraser, heart pounding as he scanned the crowd. “I know many of you are loyal to Neeny. But look at what he’s done. He’s neglected our needs while lining his pockets. We have a chance to take back control and rebuild the Arcadian Rangers into something we can all be proud of.”

Several members exchanged glances, whispers weaving through the room. Kubiii stepped forward, his usual shyness pushed aside by a newfound determination. “I believe in our ability to work together. We can make the Rangers thrive again, but we need to stand against those who only seek their own gain.”

A young member named Jenna raised her hand, her brow furrowed. “But what if Neeny finds out? He could retaliate, and we’d be putting ourselves in danger.”

Fraser nodded, understanding the fear in her voice. “That’s a valid concern. But think about it: if we don’t act, we’ll be risking everything under Neeny’s leadership. We have to choose our battles, and this is one worth fighting.”

With the room growing restless, Kevin decided it was time to show the evidence they had gathered. “Let’s lay it all out on the table. You deserve to see the truth for yourselves.”

Kevin spread the documents across the table, highlighting Neeny’s shady dealings, the missing funds, and the testimonies from other faction members who had been wronged. The tension in the room escalated as they began to read, disbelief and anger mingling in the air.

As more members poured in, Kevin felt a wave of determination wash over him. This was it—the moment they would either reclaim their faction or be pushed deeper into Neeny’s grip.

“We can’t let this continue,” Kevin urged, his voice rising above the murmurs. “We need to vote tonight. We can either stand by and let Neeny’s greed ruin us or take control of our destiny.”

A wave of nods spread through the crowd, and the energy shifted. The members began to discuss amongst themselves, weighing the evidence and their options.

Fraser took the opportunity to rally the group. “Let’s make a decision together. We can decide our own future. If you stand with us, we can bring about the change we need.”

One by one, members began to raise their hands in support of holding a vote against Neeny. The tide was turning, and Kevin felt a rush of exhilaration as the realization hit him: they were finally taking a stand.

As the crowd grew restless, whispers of solidarity filled the gym. They were ready to make their voices heard. Kevin glanced at Kubiii, who beamed with pride, his timid nature giving way to the powerful energy of the moment.

Suddenly, the gym doors slammed open, and Neeny stormed in, flanked by a few enforcers. The atmosphere shifted instantly, the air thick with tension as all eyes turned to face the intruders.

“What the hell is going on here?” Neeny growled, his eyes darting around the room. “You think you can just gather like this behind my back?”

Kevin stepped forward, heart pounding, but resolve igniting within him. “We’re taking back control, Neeny. Your reign of greed ends here.”

Neeny’s expression twisted with anger, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “And you think you can rally these losers against me? You’re all nothing without me!”

With that, the tension in the gym exploded. Members began shouting, echoing their frustrations and loyalty to Kevin and Fraser, and the atmosphere became charged with defiance.

Fraser stood tall, addressing Neeny directly. “We’re tired of your lies and your greed. It’s time for you to go.”

Neeny’s face flushed with rage. “You’ll regret this!” he spat, and the tension snapped like a taut wire.

In that moment, Kevin knew they were on the brink of a monumental clash—one that would determine the fate of the Arcadian Rangers and their standing in the ruthless world of Torn City.

With resolve burning in their hearts, Kevin, Kubiii, and Fraser prepared to face Neeny, united against the treachery that had threatened to tear their faction apart. The battle for their future was just beginning.

Chapter 5: Neeny’s Betrayal

Kevin and Kubiii stumbled into the darkness of the old subway station, their hearts pounding and adrenaline coursing through their veins. They ducked into a hidden alcove, desperate for a moment to collect their thoughts. Shadows danced along the damp walls, flickering as their breaths echoed in the confined space.

“I can’t believe Neeny showed up like that,” Kubiii said, his voice shaky. He leaned against the cold concrete wall, trying to steady himself. “What does he think he’s doing?”

“He’s a snake, Kubiii,” Kevin replied, pacing in front of him. “He only cares about himself. We can’t let him take what we worked so hard for. Not now.”

Kubiii nodded, but doubt clouded his eyes. “And what if he tells the others? What if they come after us?”

“We’ll deal with that if it happens,” Kevin said, trying to project confidence he didn’t fully feel. “Fraser is buying us time. We just need to figure out our next move.”

As they stood in the dim light, Kevin pulled out the small backpack they had filled with stolen cash and valuables from the vault. The weight of it felt like both a victory and a burden. They had made off with a considerable amount, but now they had to figure out how to keep it.

“Did you see the look on Neeny’s face?” Kubiii chuckled nervously. “He thought he could just swoop in and take everything for himself.”

“Exactly,” Kevin replied, a hint of a smile creeping onto his lips. “But we can’t let him think he has any power over us. Not anymore.”

Suddenly, the air shifted, and a familiar figure appeared in the flickering light. It was Fraser, his face set with determination. “I was worried you two might not make it out. Neeny’s furious.”

“What did you do?” Kevin asked, the adrenaline still pumping through him.

“I created a diversion,” Fraser said, glancing over his shoulder nervously. “I told Neeny I’d seen you two heading toward the East side of the city. He took off with some of the enforcers to check it out.”

Kevin felt a rush of gratitude. “Thanks, Fraser. You saved us. But Neeny is going to find out soon enough. We need to come up with a plan before he gets back.”

Fraser stepped closer, his expression serious. “I’ve heard rumblings within the faction. Neeny’s been stealing from the Rangers for a while now, and the members are getting restless. If we can rally some support against him…”

“Wait,” Kubiii interrupted, his brow furrowed. “You think the others would side with us? Neeny’s their leader. He’s been in charge for a long time.”

“True,” Fraser admitted, “but they’re also tired of his greedy ways. If we show them the truth, we might be able to oust him.”

Kevin crossed his arms, weighing the options. “It’s risky. Neeny’s not going to go down without a fight.”

“We’ll be fighting for our survival,” Fraser said, his voice firm. “We can’t let him get away with this. If he claims that loot as his own, we’ll be done for.”

Kubiii swallowed hard, anxiety creeping back in. “What if we fail? What if Neeny retaliates?”

“Then we’ll fight back,” Kevin replied, resolve hardening in his voice. “This is our chance to take control. We can’t let him manipulate us any longer.”

Fraser nodded, encouraged by Kevin’s determination. “We should start gathering evidence. If we can show the others what Neeny’s been doing, we can build a case against him.”

Kevin felt a rush of adrenaline as they began to plan their next steps. “Alright, we’ll need to work quickly. I’ll dig up everything I can find on Neeny’s dealings. We’ll expose him for who he really is.”

“Count me in,” Fraser said, a fierce glint in his eyes. “I’ll talk to some of the others. I know a few who’ve been grumbling about Neeny’s leadership. If we can get them on our side…”

“Perfect,” Kevin said, feeling the momentum shift in their favor. “Let’s move fast before Neeny gets back. We need to be ready.”

They made their way out of the subway station, keeping to the shadows of Torn City’s underbelly. The streets were alive with danger, but Kevin felt a new sense of purpose driving him forward. This was their chance to reclaim their power and confront the betrayal that had festered within the Arcadian Rangers.

As they approached the main street, Kevin felt a sense of urgency. “We need to split up. Kubiii, you stay with Fraser. Talk to those who you think might be willing to help us. I’ll hit the books and dig up whatever dirt I can find on Neeny.”

Kubiii looked hesitant. “Are you sure? What if Neeny finds you?”

“I’ll be careful,” Kevin promised, shooting him a reassuring smile. “I know how to navigate this city. Just keep your head down and stay safe. We’ll meet back here in a few hours.”

Kubiii nodded, though unease still lingered in his eyes. “Be careful, Kevin.”

“I will,” Kevin said, pressing a quick kiss to Kubiii’s cheek before they split off into the night.

Kevin moved swiftly through the alleys of Torn City, his mind racing with plans and contingencies. He was driven by a mix of adrenaline and fury, his thoughts constantly circling back to Neeny. The betrayal stung, and Kevin felt a deep sense of resolve to not only protect what was rightfully his but also to dismantle the facade Neeny had built.

He headed to a familiar spot—a small, dimly lit bar where factions often exchanged intel. The place was a hub of whispers and scheming, a perfect environment for the secrets he sought. As he pushed through the door, the musty air wrapped around him, mixing with the scent of cheap liquor and desperation.

Kevin made his way to the bar, where he spotted a few familiar faces from the Arcadian Rangers. He knew some of them were loyal to Neeny, but he had to take the risk if he wanted to gather information. Leaning casually against the counter, he waited for an opportunity to strike up a conversation.

After a few minutes, he caught the attention of a member named Ty, a scruffy guy known for his loose lips and erratic behavior. “Hey, Kevin! Didn’t see you around much lately,” Ty said, tilting his glass toward him. “Heard you got quite the haul from the vault.”

“Yeah, but Neeny’s been sniffing around, trying to claim what’s mine,” Kevin replied, keeping his voice low. “You’ve heard the grumblings, right? People are tired of his shit.”

Ty shrugged, glancing around to make sure no one was listening too closely. “Sure, but you know how it is. Neeny’s got power. People are scared to go against him.”

“But what if I told you I have evidence?” Kevin leaned in closer, his voice barely above a whisper. “Evidence of his thefts. People are waking up to what he’s been doing. If you want change, now’s the time to act.”

Ty’s eyes widened, curiosity piqued. “What do you have?”

Kevin glanced around again, ensuring they weren’t overheard. “I’m working on gathering support. If we can show the others that Neeny is using them, we can turn the tide.”

Ty scratched his beard, contemplating. “I don’t know, man. Neeny’s not the type to go down easy. You could get hurt.”

“Or we could take back what’s ours,” Kevin pressed. “Think about it. If you want to see this faction grow, we need a leader who cares about the members, not just his own pockets.”

Ty’s expression shifted, uncertainty mixing with intrigue. “Alright, I’m in. But I want to see this evidence first.”

“Deal,” Kevin replied, adrenaline rushing through him as he felt the tide starting to turn. “Meet me back here tomorrow. I’ll have what you need.”

With that, he slipped out of the bar, feeling a flicker of hope igniting within him. It was a small victory, but it was a step forward. If he could gather enough support, they might stand a chance against Neeny’s greed.

Meanwhile, as Kevin worked to expose Neeny, Kubiii and Fraser were also gathering support. They moved through the streets, speaking to disgruntled members of the Arcadian Rangers and rallying them against Neeny’s questionable leadership.

“People are tired of being used,” Fraser said to a small group gathered in a dark alley. “We have evidence of Neeny’s thefts and negligence. If we stand together, we can take back control.”

Kubiii stood beside him, offering his support. “You all know this is about more than just us. It’s about the future of the Arcadian Rangers. We need a leader who cares for the members, not one who takes advantage of us.”

As they spoke, more and more members nodded in agreement, anger simmering beneath the surface. The cracks in Neeny’s leadership were starting to show, and they were ready to act.

Back in the shadows of Torn City, Kevin could feel the momentum building. He had one last piece of information to gather: a final confirmation of Neeny’s betrayal that would solidify their case.

But as the sun began to rise, Kevin knew they had to act fast. The longer they waited, the more dangerous it would become. Neeny wouldn’t take kindly to their insurrection, and Kevin was determined not to let his husband and friend face the wrath of his treachery alone.

As he made his way back to meet with Kubiii and Fraser, a sense of clarity washed over him. They were not just fighting for themselves anymore; they were fighting for the future of the Arcadian Rangers. The betrayal had only ignited their resolve, and together, they would rise against Neeny.

The next chapter of their story was about to unfold, and Kevin Torn was ready to lead the charge.

Chapter 4: The Heist of the Torn-City Vault

The moon hung high over Torn City, a cold and indifferent observer to the criminal underbelly it illuminated. Kevin and Kubiii stood at the edge of an abandoned parking garage, their breath visible in the crisp night air. In the distance, the Torn-City Vault towered above the skyline, a fortress of wealth rumored to hold the treasures of the city’s most powerful factions. It was a place that no one had successfully breached, a vault cloaked in layers of security that only the most audacious could hope to crack.

Kevin’s eyes glinted with a mixture of ambition and mischief. “This is it, Kubiii. The big one. If we pull this off, we’ll set ourselves up for life. No more worrying about Neeny or his demands.”

Kubiii shifted nervously, a slight frown creasing his brow. “But the security systems are top-notch, right? What if we get caught? What if Neeny finds out?”

Kevin placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “We won’t get caught. I’ve studied their systems for weeks. Besides, we have Fraser on lookout. He’s got our backs.”

Kubiii nodded, but unease lingered in his eyes. The weight of what they were about to do settled heavily on him. “Okay. Just… let’s be careful, alright?”

With that, they made their way to the rear entrance of the parking garage, where a rusty metal staircase led down into the shadows. Kevin fished out his laptop, the glow of the screen illuminating his determined expression. He connected to the network he had set up, routing their signal through multiple layers of encryption to obscure their tracks.

“Ready?” he asked, glancing back at Kubiii.

“Ready,” Kubiii replied, trying to sound confident.

Kevin’s fingers flew across the keyboard, typing commands faster than Kubiii could follow. The faint hum of electricity buzzed in the air as they got closer to the vault’s mainframe. The plan was simple: Kubiii would help him navigate the financial accounts, and they would transfer a few key assets that could be turned into cash in no time.

“Okay, here we go.” Kevin’s voice was low as he initiated the hacking sequence. The screen filled with cascading data as he broke through the initial firewalls. “Keep an eye on the cameras for me.”

Kubiii nodded, his heart racing as he focused on the monitor. He could feel the tension building between them, the thrill of the heist mixed with the fear of being caught. Just as Kevin hacked into the vault’s security systems, his phone buzzed.

Fraser’s name flashed on the screen. Kevin quickly answered, his voice barely above a whisper. “Fraser, we’re in. How’s the lookout?”

“Clear for now,” Fraser replied, his voice steady. “But I’m not sure how long that’ll last. You know how Neeny gets. If he senses something’s off, he’ll start asking questions.”

“Tell him everything is fine,” Kevin said, frustration creeping into his tone. “We need him to stay out of this until we’re done.”

“Copy that,” Fraser said. “Just be careful.”

As Kevin hung up, he felt the pressure mounting. The vault’s intricate security system had multiple layers, but he had prepared for this. Every keystroke was calculated, each command a step closer to their goal. With Kubiii’s help, they were rapidly progressing through the system.

“Almost there,” Kevin murmured, sweat beading on his forehead as he concentrated. “Just a few more passwords to crack.”

But just as he began to make progress, the unmistakable sound of footsteps echoed through the corridor outside. Kubiii’s eyes widened in panic.

“Kevin, someone’s coming!” he hissed, instinctively grabbing Kevin’s arm.

“Shh!” Kevin replied, trying to keep his voice steady. “I need a second.”

The footsteps grew louder, and Kevin’s heart raced. He was almost through the final security layer, but if they were caught now, it would all be for nothing. He could feel the weight of the moment pressing down on him.

“Come on, come on,” he whispered under his breath, fingers flying across the keyboard.

The door to the vault room creaked open, and Kevin’s stomach dropped. Neeny walked in, flanked by two of his muscle-bound enforcers. The air felt thick with tension as Neeny’s eyes scanned the room.

“What the hell is going on here?” he demanded, a sneer twisting his lips.

Kevin cursed under his breath, fingers pausing above the keyboard. “Neeny,” he said, trying to keep his voice calm. “This isn’t what it looks like.”

“Really? Because it looks like you’re about to rob the Torn-City Vault,” Neeny shot back, stepping closer, his eyes narrowing. “And without my cut, I might add.”

Kubiii tensed beside Kevin, fear etched across his face. “We… we weren’t stealing anything,” he stammered, trying to defuse the situation. “Just—”

Neeny waved a dismissive hand. “Save it. I want my share, and I want it now.”

Kevin took a step forward, frustration bubbling over. “You don’t get to take a cut from something you didn’t help with, Neeny. You’ve done nothing but steal from this faction!”

Neeny laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. “You think you can play the big game without me? You need me to keep the heat off. And if you think I’ll let you walk away with all that cash without my say-so, you’re sorely mistaken.”

Fraser burst in through the door just as the tension reached a breaking point. “What’s going on here?” he demanded, eyes darting between Kevin and Neeny.

“Your brother’s trying to claim our score!” Kevin shot back, irritation flaring. “He doesn’t deserve it!”

Fraser stepped closer to Neeny, his expression firm. “You know this isn’t right, Neeny. You can’t just take what isn’t yours.”

Neeny scoffed, brushing Fraser aside. “This is about survival, Fraser. You don’t understand the game like I do. It’s about power, and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep my position.”

Kevin and Kubiii exchanged glances, both knowing this was escalating fast. Neeny was cornered, and cornered animals were the most dangerous. Kevin needed to act quickly.

“Fraser, we need to get out of here,” Kevin said, his voice steady. “Now.”

Neeny’s eyes flashed with anger as he saw Kevin preparing to leave. “You’re not going anywhere without handing over that loot!”

Before Kevin could respond, Fraser stepped forward, blocking Neeny’s path. “No, Neeny. This isn’t your turf anymore. You’re just a parasite feeding off everyone’s hard work.”

Neeny shoved Fraser aside, reaching for Kevin and Kubiii. “You think you can turn the faction against me? You’re nothing without my leadership!”

With that, chaos erupted. Kevin grabbed Kubiii’s hand and bolted toward the exit. Behind them, Neeny shouted for his enforcers, but Kevin was already at the door, pushing through just as the first heavy footsteps thundered behind them.

“Go!” Kevin yelled, sprinting into the alleyway with Kubiii at his side. They raced down the dark streets of Torn City, adrenaline pumping through their veins.

“Fraser!” Kevin called, but there was no time to look back. They could hear Neeny and his men crashing through the building behind them, the sound of their shouts echoing ominously through the night.

“We need to lose them!” Kubiii gasped, breathless as they turned down a narrow side street, ducking behind a dumpster.

“Just stay quiet,” Kevin whispered, straining to hear the sounds of pursuit. His mind raced as he tried to come up with a plan. “If we can just get to the next block…”

But just as they took a breath, they heard the heavy footsteps approach. Neeny’s voice rang out. “They can’t have gotten far! Split up and search the area!”

Kevin’s heart sank. They were going to be hunted down if they didn’t act quickly.

“Here!” he whispered, pulling Kubiii into a narrow alley that led behind a series of warehouses. “We can hide here for a moment.”

They pressed against the cold brick wall, hearts pounding in sync as they listened to Neeny’s men searching the area.

“Where are they?” one of the enforcers grunted, frustration lacing his tone. “They couldn’t have gone far!”

Kubiii held onto Kevin’s arm tightly, fear written across his features. “What do we do now?”

“We wait,” Kevin said, his voice low and steady. “We have to outsmart them. If we can just keep quiet long enough…”

As the footsteps faded into the distance, they exchanged nervous glances. But before they could relax, Kevin’s phone buzzed again. He glanced down, his heart sinking as he saw it was Fraser again.

“Don’t answer it!” Kubiii urged, but Kevin couldn’t help himself. He swiped to answer.

“Fraser?” he whispered urgently.

“Kevin, listen,” Fraser’s voice was frantic. “I’m trying to create a distraction, but you need to move. Neeny’s on the warpath, and he’s not going to stop until he finds you.”

“Can you get to us?” Kevin asked, glancing over his shoulder.

“I’ll try, but you need to be smart about this,” Fraser urged. “Head to the old subway station—meet me there. It’s the last place Neeny would look for you.”

“Okay,” Kevin replied. “But be careful, Fraser!”

“I will,” Fraser promised. “Just keep moving.”

With a nod, Kevin hung up and turned to Kubiii. “We have to go. Now.”

They slipped out of their hiding spot and made their way through the dimly lit streets of Torn City, hearts racing with each step. They couldn’t afford to let Neeny catch them; the stakes had never been higher.

As they reached the entrance to the old subway station, Kevin glanced at Kubiii, determination igniting within him. “We’ll get through this. Together.”

With a firm squeeze of Kubiii’s hand, they descended into the darkness, ready to confront whatever lay ahead. In Torn City, trust was hard to come by, but Kevin knew that together, they could navigate the treacherous waters of betrayal and emerge stronger. The heist may not have gone as planned, but things were far from over.

Chapter 3: Schemes, Scams, and Questhands

The dim glow of Kevin Torn’s monitors cast a sharp light against the walls of their penthouse office. Rows of encrypted files filled the screen, numbers and symbols blurring together into a digital tapestry that only a mind like Kevin’s could unravel. Kubiii sat beside him, eyes darting between the data Kevin cracked open and his own laptop, where spreadsheets of figures and transaction routes mapped out the financial landscape of Torn City’s underbelly.

Kevin’s voice was low, a confident murmur that Kubiii had grown to find reassuring over the years. “This is it, love. The jackpot. This old businessman—Arnold Drescher—is sitting on a fortune. Offshore accounts, high-yield investments, even some dirty money hidden in shell companies. We drain these, and we’re up for the year.”

Kubiii shifted nervously in his seat, glancing over at Kevin. “But won’t this be too obvious? If we take everything—”

“We don’t have to take it all,” Kevin cut in, a smirk playing on his lips. “Just enough to make it seem like a sophisticated heist. Drescher will think it’s one of his business rivals. By the time he realizes what’s gone, we’ll have the money laundered and off the books.”

Kubiii hesitated, chewing on his lower lip. Despite Kevin’s confidence, there was a nagging feeling at the back of his mind—a sense that they were pushing their luck. They’d been on a hot streak for weeks, siphoning off small fortunes from Torn City’s wealthiest. But every score brought them closer to exposure.

“Kev,” he began softly, his gaze flickering with concern, “what if Neeny catches wind of this?”

Kevin’s fingers froze on the keyboard, and he turned his full attention to Kubiii. “Neeny doesn’t have the brains to trace our operations. He’s too busy stuffing his own pockets and watching his back. And if he tries to interfere…” Kevin’s smile was cold. “We’ve got Fraser on our side. He’ll keep Neeny in check.”

That seemed to calm Kubiii a bit. He nodded slowly, a small smile forming. “Okay. I trust you.”

Kevin reached over and gave Kubiii’s hand a reassuring squeeze. “Good. Because this heist will set us up for the next phase.”

Kubiii didn’t need to ask what the next phase was. Kevin had been whispering about it for weeks now—building their own influence, carving out a piece of Torn City that was entirely theirs. It was a dream that both thrilled and terrified Kubiii. But as always, he would follow Kevin wherever he led.

“Let’s do it, then,” Kubiii said softly, his voice steadying. “But we need to move carefully. Remember… Questhands.”

Kevin raised an eyebrow, a smile breaking through his intense focus. “Questhands? You’ve been hanging around the roleplayers at the bar again, haven’t you?”

Kubiii flushed slightly but nodded. “Yeah, I guess. But they have a point. Hands that complete quests are hands that don’t get caught up in the mess afterward. We need to complete this quest, get the loot, and get out—clean.”

Kevin chuckled, the sound lightening the tension in the room. “Questhands it is, then. We’ll move like pros and leave no traces behind.”

It was just past midnight when Kevin and Kubiii made their way through Torn City’s winding alleys. The target building—a sleek, modern office tower on the edge of the financial district—stood like a monolith against the dark sky. Lights flickered behind the tinted windows, but the place was largely empty.

Kevin, wearing a dark hoodie and carrying a sleek black bag, approached the back entrance. Kubiii followed close behind, the nervous energy he always felt before a job churning in his stomach. But as they reached the door, Kevin gave him a reassuring smile.

“Ready?” Kevin whispered, pulling a small electronic device from his bag.

Kubiii nodded, wiping his palms on his jeans. “Ready.”

With a deft touch, Kevin attached the device to the security panel beside the door. A soft beep echoed in the quiet alley as the device hacked into the building’s security systems. After a few tense seconds, the door clicked open.

“Let’s go,” Kevin murmured, leading the way inside.

They moved like shadows through the empty corridors, bypassing cameras and motion sensors with practiced ease. Kevin had spent days studying the building’s security layout, memorizing patrol routes and camera blind spots. Kubiii had no doubt that they were the only ones in Torn City who could pull off a job like this without triggering a single alarm.

They reached the main server room on the twelfth floor. Kevin glanced at Kubiii, who nodded and set up his own equipment—a laptop linked to a series of encrypted routers and masking software. Kubiii’s fingers danced over the keys as he routed their signal through multiple proxy servers, ensuring that their digital footprints would vanish into the ether.

“Everything’s set,” Kubiii whispered, his voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through him. “You can start.”

Kevin smiled. “Good work, love.”

He plugged his own laptop into the server and got to work. The businessman’s data fortress fell like a house of cards beneath Kevin’s relentless assault. Passwords cracked, firewalls crumbled, and hidden files surfaced. Within minutes, he was in control of Drescher’s entire digital network.

“Alright… let’s see what we have here,” Kevin muttered, his eyes scanning the streams of data. He zeroed in on the offshore accounts, transferring small sums of money into a series of intermediary accounts that Kubiii had set up earlier.

“Not too much,” Kubiii cautioned, his eyes glued to the transaction logs. “We want him to notice, but not to the point where he’ll panic.”

Kevin nodded, his hands steady as he moved from one account to the next, siphoning off just enough to hurt but not cripple. The screen filled with confirmation notifications as the funds flowed seamlessly through their web of accounts and ended up in their own hidden vaults.

“All done.” Kevin leaned back, satisfied. “Drescher’s going to wake up tomorrow and think one of his rivals pulled a fast one on him.”

Kubiii exhaled slowly, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. “Let’s pack up and get out of here before—”

The sudden ringing of Kevin’s burner phone interrupted him. Both of them froze, eyes locked on the phone as if it were a venomous snake.

“Who the hell is calling now?” Kevin muttered, grabbing the phone and checking the caller ID.

It was Fraser.

Kevin glanced at Kubiii, then answered. “Fraser? What’s going on?”

“Kevin, you need to get out of there. Now.” Fraser’s voice was urgent, tinged with worry. “Neeny’s on his way. He heard something through one of his informants—he knows you’re pulling a job tonight.”

Kevin’s heart skipped a beat. “How much does he know?”

“Enough to want a piece of it. I tried to slow him down, but he’s bringing a couple of heavies with him. Get out of there, Kevin. I’ll try to stall, but—”

Fraser’s voice was cut off by the sound of a door slamming on his end. Kevin’s blood ran cold.

“Shit. Kubiii, pack it up. We’re leaving—now.”

Kubiii scrambled to disconnect the equipment, his hands shaking as he shoved their gear into the bag. They were halfway to the exit when they heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps echoing down the hallway.

Kevin cursed under his breath, glancing around for an escape route. “They’re here already.”

“Kev, what do we do?” Kubiii’s voice was high-pitched, panic seeping in.

Kevin’s mind raced. “Fire escape. Now.”

They dashed to the window at the end of the hallway. Kevin threw it open, the cold night air hitting them as they stepped out onto the narrow fire escape. Below them, the streets of Torn City stretched out like a maze of danger and opportunity.

“Quick, down,” Kevin urged, his voice hushed but urgent. They clambered down the metal ladder, the sound of the door to the server room bursting open behind them.

“Where the hell did they go?” a gruff voice demanded from inside.

Kevin looked at Kubiii, who was trembling slightly. He reached over, squeezing his husband’s shoulder. “Questhands, remember? We get out, clean and smooth.”

Kubiii nodded, his breathing slowing as he focused. “Clean and smooth.”

They reached the alleyway below and vanished into the night, leaving behind no trace except the lingering echo of Neeny’s curses.

They’d escaped this time. But Kevin knew one thing for certain—Neeny wouldn’t let this slide. The stakes had just been raised, and the game was about to get a lot more dangerous.

Chapter 2: The Tension Within Arcadian Rangers

The Arcadian Rangers’ headquarters looms over one of Torn City’s rougher districts, a hulking building that was once an abandoned warehouse. Now, it’s the heart of the faction’s operations. Its windows are darkened, steel-reinforced doors guarded by two burly sentries. Inside, the faction’s elite members mill around, discussing recent heists and trading under-the-table deals.

Kevin and Kubiii stand at the edge of the common area, observing the scene. It’s a volatile mix of personalities—thieves, hackers, enforcers, and informants. Everyone here is vying for a piece of the action, and tensions often run high. But today, it’s not the usual bickering that’s putting everyone on edge. It’s the arrival of Neeny.

“Speak of the devil,” Kevin mutters, as Neeny saunters into the room. He’s dressed casually, his demeanor as careless as ever. But there’s a gleam in his eye that makes Kevin uneasy.

Neeny raises his voice, addressing the group. “Good news, folks. We’ve had a lucrative week, thanks to… someone’s generous contributions.”

His gaze sweeps over the members, lingering for a moment on Kevin. A mocking smile twists Neeny’s lips.

Kevin suppresses a sneer. “He means us,” he whispers to Kubiii, who stiffens beside him.

Kubiii’s eyes dart around nervously, as if expecting someone to jump out and accuse them of hiding their latest scores. “Kev, you think he knows?”

“Not for sure,” Kevin replies, his voice low and steady. “But Neeny’s always been good at smelling out money he didn’t earn.”

Neeny continues his speech, all false charm and empty promises. “Now, I know some of you have been wondering where I’ve been. Handling the big picture, that’s what.” He spreads his arms, as if revealing the secrets of the universe. “Someone’s gotta look out for us, right?”

A few faction members nod reluctantly, but most exchange skeptical glances. Everyone knows Neeny’s been more concerned with lining his own pockets than looking out for the Rangers. He’s been disappearing for days at a time, coming back with barely any explanation and an appetite for taking credit where it’s not due.

Kevin clenches his jaw, barely restraining the urge to interrupt. He knows the kind of man Neeny is—one who thrives on being the center of attention while contributing the bare minimum. But Kevin has learned to bide his time, to watch and wait.

“Fraser!” Neeny suddenly calls out, his tone turning sharper. “Where’s my good-for-nothing brother?”

A figure steps out from the shadows near the back of the room. Fraser is taller than Neeny, with a quiet strength about him. His eyes are clear and focused, a stark contrast to his brother’s lazy smirk.

“Right here, Neeny,” Fraser replies evenly. He crosses his arms, his gaze not leaving Neeny’s face.

“Ah, there he is. Always keeping the gears turning, aren’t you?” Neeny’s smile is forced. There’s something tense between the two brothers, a crackling energy that makes the room fall silent.

Fraser doesn’t respond to Neeny’s jab. Instead, he turns his gaze to the rest of the faction. “We’ve got bigger things to focus on than Neeny’s ‘big picture’ plans. Rival factions have been sniffing around our territory. They think we’re distracted.” He looks pointedly at Neeny. “Maybe it’s time we showed them we’re not.”

Neeny scoffs. “Oh, Fraser, always the Boy Scout. The real problem is people getting too big for their britches. Too many members trying to keep their own little piles of cash under the table. We’re a family, and family shares.”

Kevin bristles at Neeny’s veiled accusation. His eyes flicker to Kubiii, who’s visibly pale and trembling. The pressure is building. Kevin needs to steer attention away from them before Neeny turns this into a witch hunt.

Before Kevin can speak, a voice from the crowd cuts in, dripping with venom. “Family shares, huh, Neeny? Is that why you’ve been taking a little extra for yourself every month?”

Murmurs ripple through the room. The speaker steps forward—a burly enforcer named Vance, known for his brutal efficiency and distaste for Neeny’s leadership. “Some of us have been noticing, Neeny. The missing funds. The way you’re skimming off the top.”

Neeny’s grin falters for the briefest of moments, but then it returns, colder and more dangerous. “Watch yourself, Vance. I’m the one keeping this faction afloat.”

“Bullshit,” Vance growls. “You’re keeping yourself afloat. How much longer before you bleed us dry?”

The room erupts into a cacophony of voices—some backing Vance, others defending Neeny. A few members look to Fraser, expecting him to step in. Kevin glances at Fraser too, curious to see how he’ll handle this growing mutiny.

But Fraser doesn’t take a side. Instead, he raises his hands, calling for calm. “Enough!” he barks, his voice cutting through the din. “This isn’t the place to air grievances. We handle this like a faction, not like a pack of animals.”

Slowly, the room quiets down, though the tension is palpable. Fraser’s gaze sweeps over everyone, lingering on Kevin and Kubiii just long enough to make Kevin wonder if Fraser knows more than he’s letting on.

“Vance, you’ve made your point. Neeny, you need to be more transparent.” Fraser’s tone is firm but measured, brooking no argument. “We can’t afford to fall apart from the inside.”

Neeny glares at his brother but doesn’t argue. Instead, he mutters something under his breath and stalks off, pushing past a few members who scramble to get out of his way.

Kevin lets out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. Kubiii’s hand finds his, squeezing tightly.

“Do you think this will end well?” Kubiii murmurs.

Kevin shakes his head slowly. “No. Neeny’s not the type to let this go.”

From across the room, Fraser catches Kevin’s eye and nods subtly, a silent acknowledgment of the delicate balance they’re trying to maintain. Kevin nods back, understanding the unspoken message. Fraser is on their side—for now.

But with Neeny growing more paranoid and the faction’s patience wearing thin, Kevin knows they’re on borrowed time. One wrong move, and the Arcadian Rangers could explode into a full-scale civil war.

As the members disperse, grumbling and muttering, Kevin pulls Kubiii closer, speaking softly so only he can hear.

“We need to be ready for whatever comes next. Neeny’s dangerous, but he’s not as smart as he thinks he is.”

Kubiii’s eyes dart nervously to the door where Neeny disappeared. “What if he finds out what we’ve been doing, Kev?”

“Then we’ll have to show him just how much bigger our pile of cash is.” Kevin’s voice is steel, a promise of defiance and ambition.

With that, they leave the headquarters, Kubiii clinging to Kevin’s arm. As they step into the dark, rain-slicked streets of Torn City, one thing is certain: the real battle for control of the Arcadian Rangers is just beginning.
