I wrote a paper about TORN for my college English paper and want to know what yall think about it whether that's improvements, degradations, or just general thoughts.
The Torn Community

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a city where crime runs rampant? What about factions running the city even more than the police? How about being one of the many people of those factions or the leaders making major decisions for the city? That is what Torn offers people.
I found Torn through a random ad and got intrigued. When I first looked into joining, I was curious how the community interacted with each other. Was it going to be a super toxic community that I would want to mute out or would it end up being an amazing community that is filled with optimism and would want to keep around me? I was also intrigued by how it would affect how I see crime and the sort. Would it make me slowly become blind to crime in the real world or would I become more aware of what can be happening around us without our knowledge? These were just a few of the things I wanted to know about when I first found Torn.
First getting into the game, I started to look at how it would affect my views. I started by noticing there were a lot more crimes and options than I had initially thought. The crimes were in a list and I saw there were some things that I didn’t think of crimes until now. There were things like Searching for cash, card skimming, and disposal. When I think of crime I don’t normally think of those things, I think of like, murder, theft, and graffiti. I never realized that someone could get your card information by placing a skimmer on machines that use your card. Going around places and looking for lost cash to make a quick buck is not something I would think of as a crime but I realize that under the right context it could be seen as a form of theft since that money used to belong to someone but you have taken it and they won’t get it back. There were also many other options for what I could do that weren't just crimes. You could go to school and learn to improve your working stats or unlock new things to do, you could get a job that will give you different benefits as you get better, or you could get on the race track and improve your racing skill to become the fastest in the city. I started to realize that a lot of criminals are still mostly normal people like you and I and that there are so many different ways that crime can be committed. This has caused me to be a lot more cautious and aware of my actions.
As I got going and saw what it offered I also started to meet more people and get into the community. The first faction that I joined was quite inactive and didn’t help new players at all when they had a question. I had started to think that it was this way in all the factions which made me want to leave. I ended up taking about a 6 month break because of this but when I came back I joined a new faction called Dracula’s Disciples. This new faction was so much more active and friendly then my last one and I actually learned so much more and was able to grow at an exponential rate compared to before. While factions are an amazing way to grow and learn it is not the only way to be a part of the community. There are also live chats that you can use to communicate with anyone that is playing or you can talk on the different forums to either give help or get help.
In short, when I started playing this game I was worried about it desensitizing me and having an extremely toxic environment but it has become somewhere I look forward to interacting with the community. It is a very informative and amazingly welcoming place and I would recommend it to anyone as long as you can handle the underlying context of the game.
