I get it. I wish the game was a little less "big number beats small number".
However, this isn't the entirety of the game's combat system. Try using temporary weapons and drugs to buff yourself or debuff your opponent.
Additionally, once you are later into the game, you might get some weapons with special effects that can be used strategically.
If you want to move on from this game, I get it, and you're free to do so. But just know that it isn't completely big number > small number, even though it often appears that way, especially as a new player.
I would recommend the Macana for new players. It's a melee weapon. I would also recommend pepper spray because it's cheap from the gun store. Take Vicodin if your stats simply aren't quite there.
