Let me tell you a tale, a tale of shadows and spite, a tale of vengeance served cold on the streets of Torn.
You see, in the grand, grimy underbelly of Torn City, where crime is currency and pettiness is an art form, I have made a dear friend. A friend so devoted, so unwavering in their attention, that it would be remiss of me not to share their tale. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to Petty—no, not the concept, but the manifestation of it in one singular player: SamZhang [3288979].
Now, my journey in Torn began like most—wide-eyed, hopeful, and blissfully ignorant of the savagery lurking behind every transaction. My Torn wife and I stepped into this world together, two fresh-faced newcomers eager to carve our names into the annals of the city’s history. We learned fast. Too fast. Buy-mugging, scams, extortion—Torn’s finest lessons, taught in blood and broken wallets. And like all good students, we adapted.
But amidst our rise, we picked up an admirer. SamZhang.
Ah, Sam. Such a devoted soul. It started small—an occasional mugging here, a casual pocket-emptying there. A brush with nuisance, nothing more. But time went on, and Sam’s attention grew... obsessive. You see, I got stronger. I clawed my way up the ranks, past the reach of Sam’s grubby little hands. So what did he do? The next best thing—he turned his sights on my Torn wife. Again. And again. And again.
At first, I shrugged it off. The cycle of Torn life, after all. But there’s something about watching the same name pop up in your battle logs, over and over, that stirs a man’s soul. And so, one fateful day, I decided: enough was enough.
The predator would become the prey.
I found Sam. I hit Sam. I took from Sam what he so gleefully took from others. A mugging, a single, simple act. 100k pilfered from his pockets, a sum so trivial it would be forgotten by sunrise.
But Sam did not forget.
Oh no. No, no, no. Sam unravelled.
Picture, if you will, a child denied their ice cream in the middle of a crowded store. The trembling lip, the indignant wail, the sheer, unbridled meltdown of it all. Sam reached into his bag of tricks and let loose a flood of bounties. One. Two. Ten. Another seven. A tidal wave of vengeance that could drown a lesser man. And when that wasn’t enough, Sam did the unthinkable—he took out 72 hours of protection against bounties, wrapping himself in a cocoon of cowardice as he nursed his wounded pride.
The tally so far? Over 1.8 million and 20 job points, all spent in a fit of glorious, unrelenting, world-class pettiness. All over a single mugging.
And so, dear Torn citizens, I invite you—nay, I implore you—to give our friend Sam the welcome he so richly deserves. The full Duke spread. The grand initiation. After all, where would we be without the Sams of this world?
Petty, my friends, is eternal.

Using tools to spell-check, correct grammar and structure sentences is cheating in forum posting? LOL what....
I'll take that on board, appreciate the genuine feedback
Fair call out
Full disclosure, I wrote it out first, then used AI to help me structure it better. English is not my best talent as a village idiot :)
Elimination is one of Torn’s flagship competitions. It’s intense, strategic, and for many veterans, the highlight of the year. But as someone new to the game, I can’t help but ask: what does “fair” even mean in Torn competitions?
The Reality Check
Elimination is currently in open beta, rebuilt from the ground up. That means bugs, imbalances, and unexpected outcomes are part of the package. But beyond technical issues, there are deeper structural problems that make “fair play” feel almost impossible:
- Script Cheating
Despite Torn’s strict rules, automation and scripts have historically been a shadow factor. Even if most players avoid them, the suspicion alone undermines trust. - Money Under the Table
Leaders can be influenced, whether through direct payments, favours, or promises of future support. In a game where billions of Torn dollars circulate, how do you police this? - Sabotage from Within
Members can be bribed or persuaded to throw fights, leak intel, or simply not show up. Internal sabotage is nearly impossible to detect. - Pre-existing Alliances & Drama
Torn is a social RPG. Factions, friendships, and rivalries don’t disappear when Elimination starts. Teams often carry baggage that determines outcomes before the first hit is made.
Why This Matters
From what I’ve seen in just a short time, “fair” in Torn is relative. The competition rewards not only skill and activity but also politics, wealth, and influence. That’s not necessarily bad. Torn thrives on its gritty realism.... but it does mean Elimination is less about equal footing and more about navigating a messy ecosystem and luck.
Predictable Issues
Yes, it’s beta. Yes, improvements will come. But some of these fairness challenges were predictable:
- Alliances shaping outcomes.
- Wealth disparities skewing participation.
- The difficulty of enforcing anti-cheating measures from a social alliance aspect.
Final Thought
Elimination is fun, chaotic, and uniquely Torn. But if we’re going to call it a fair competition... what restrictions, rules and safeguards would need to be implemented?
Ps
Yes, my team came last. But that's ok, we are the village idiots after all
