One year huh...saw a Facebook ad about an old school forum style MMO and was like well, need something to do and decided to download it
Now a year later, I've only missed a single login since, learned a lot, met tons of awesome (and crappy) people, and plan to keep being here for at least a few more if possible. And today I decided to chat about my experience with the game, how I started, where it went, ect.
So, when I started, I had ZERO idea how to do anything. I also wanted to do something pretty unique. For once I just...played. I refused to look up guides. I wanted to try it out solo. Do what I could by myself. No handouts, no faction, no company, hell I didn't even know companies existed or how they worked.
It gave me a unique opportunity to try out a massive game with a large community without any handholding. I don't even really remember if I responded to many of the faction invites I was getting, just politely declined if I did. One guy was confused, wondering why I was doing it. Told them just wanted to do it that way, left it at that
I've played tons of online games, MMOs, mixed bags of experiences, but almost all of them involving some sort of friend helping me, looking up locations for fast leveling, quick cash, ect. And I wanted to just figure it out myself, have a truly unique experience
Within minutes of starting I had a mail welcoming me and an offer for help. Wasn't even expecting something like that. I don't believe I responded because again, that'd be "fudging the experience"
So I continued on. Learning as I went, what to do, what not to do (sorta), joined the Casino, slowly built up my initial gear. Got the Nudist title. Absolutely confused cuz I figured armor counted as clothing and being covered up. Guess not. Weird right?
At this point I'm only doing very basic stuff. Gym, search through the trash, poke around the different menus. And then my first major breakthrough. I can buy 100 beers and sell them! Boom, first 100k! I was super excited
Then I started getting mugged. I had no way to hide my money. Didn't know how to even do that. Was getting mad about it too, started becoming stressed out, logging in, seeing my very limited funds being taken away from me. 10k here, 17k there, and no idea how to really handle it. That's when I first got discouraged and thought about quitting. Then I figure, hey, if I buy stuff people are constantly buying, like wallets, I can hide my cash that way! Then just sell it later on. I'll lose a bit of money but it's a planned loss and keeps me out of the hospital. Works out great, for a time
Moving on, slowly building up, gathering assorted items to sell, testing out different crimes to try and get better stuff. Just basic stuff. Finally learn how to check the City map and holy crap there's loot? And it's expensive? Massive boost to my new worth and income! By this point I found out about the stock ticker from doing a tiny bit of forum snooping to keep my cash safe. New goal, get a stock ticker. Takes me about a week but I got it. Sigh of relief, finally feel safe
And then, about 4-5 months in, I start thinking "You know what, I should at LEAST use the in game guides, that's fine right? Just information right there available for everyone, I'll do that" and start looking into other avenues, like flying for plushies (Hated doing that), among other things. Stumble across some drama in the forums, joked around and made one of my first forum posts defending OP. Bro sends me 15m and a fully upgraded Ranch. I was shook. Told him to take it back and it's ok, he told me it's just stuff sitting around and not to worry about it. Just to pay it forward later on
And six months rolls around, by this point I was sitting near 200m net worth, maybe 80m of that in the bank? Decide screw it, I did what I set out to do, but now I'm getting the itch to really dive in and shake things up. So I start shopping around for player companies and a faction. Find both fairly easy, pretty low level chill places. Company would eventually get sold and I was out a job after only a few weeks in. Was pissed off and found another place. Level 1 toy store? Director seems cool, 50k a day? That's 10x more than the previous place! Hell yeah. Now we're moving up
Then I start looking into alternative ways of earning cash. Market sales is fine I guess but I'm only earning 1-2m a week and I have my eyes set on buying a Private Island. Start looking around and I see something in trade chat about selling loses. A discord specifically for people who buy and sell losses and all managed by higher ups so you don't get scammed? Hell yeah I'm in!
Welcome to Phenix Co
And so, things progress. Sell losses, use that money to buy a Xan, use the Xan E to sell more, rarely fly here and there, do my OCs, making progress. Oh, new director for the company? We're at 6★ and bro wanted to hit 7★, selling right before that goal? Weird but alright. Oh now I have to pay for the trains I was getting for free?? Nah I'm out. At the same time was starting to search around for a more active faction as well. No offense to the first faction I was in, great people and I'm still in their discord. But a bit more activity would be nice
And now, snuggled into a new faction, new company I'm helping grow, taking things at my own pace. Achieved my goal of getting my own PI before my first anniversary, got a good faction, great company, meeting plenty of awesome people, met a few unsavorys, and now I'm just reflecting back, this weird little crime MMO I saw on Facebook and decided eh screw it, might like it
Torn City is another home to me now. Here's hoping for a few more years here
Hey there, buying items for my new bazaar. Mug free, limited funds at the moment, let me know what I can do for you. Just send a trade - Buylist can be found here https://tornexchange.com/prices/mfjunior3/ Cheers!

You get fedded by bogie because he took it personally, obviously
Having an opinion isn't against the rules
And we're currently openly not respecting this staff decision. Because it's proving they can't be unbiased and properly moderate
Should we all get fedded for just talking about this then?
Personal beneficial enforcement of vague rules is fair though, remember that 👍
You'd unironically "retaliate" more than King did by doing that so it'd say it's guaranteed atp
It's also not fair that they can take measures against a player that literally didn't do anything except blast them for their own fk up and say they "might" do something
If you're going to just abuse your power to PREpunish someone who MIGHT do something, they just showed they have zero integrity and can just fed someone who they see as a threat
Meanwhile all the normal playerbase can get scammed, buymugged, DB'd and more and none of that is against the rules
But if you do it to staff it's not fair play it's "retaliation"
Word gets around faster than ever nowadays. For a game that's experiencing significant growth over the past 2 years, Ched should seriously reconsider who they have on their team if all of this shitshow can be caused over a graved thread. It's embarrassing
If "retaliation" isn't allowed, then mods shouldn't have stakes in the game
bogie brought up being "fair" and "unbiased" but that's obviously not possible if they're also players
What's stopping them for just saying ANY negative action against them counts as retaliation when clearly they've shown they're absolutely biased and then doubled down on it
I expect to see a rollback merit on my account sooner rather than later at this rate
Wait so lemme get this straight
You do something stupid, get called out for it, then backpedal the decision
You upset the player you did dirty, then because they get upset over your screw up and blast you because of it so we can all see it, you fed them and think that's "Fair" because he maybe would do something
If anyone DB's you, should we all expect a merit for the rollback?

Goldship posting is approved, 10/10 would rizz the skibidi again. 6 7
"I failed to buymug someone with no money, clearly this is the devs fault and needs to be fixed"
Isn't that like, most the time?
Fûck cancer, happy to hear another person kicked it's ass
Seems to be fixed now

I'm sure one day of touching grass is good for everyone
F**k cancer. My condolences to her family and friends, in Australia, Torn, and everywhere else they touched. Seems they were deeply loved by the people here. My best wishes to you all 💕
Good luck to everyone and happy holidays!
Bro they were being very professional with you and directed you to the proper channel for further discussion about it and you just start insulting them
You went from having a point to looking stupid and pathetic real fkn fast. Grow up. World doesn't revolve around you and I guarantee you that whatever your thread was not worth the tantrum you're throwing
I recently got my one year anniversary. Came into the game completely blind. Seeing some turbo optimization with some sponsoring is wild. Grats on hitting 100 and hope you're around for another 220 days to see what else you get up to
Addiction comes in all shapes and sizes, and anything, from playing Torn, to gambling, and more, are not the responsibility of the people running the game
As cold as it sounds, they found a fix and it's better they spend their in game money than ruin their life for it. There's plenty of free games that offer gambling in them so unfortunately they need the kind of help that putting daily limits for everyone wouldn't fix, they'd just go elsewhere
