I am new here. I've been playing for about a week now. I stumbled upon Torn looking for a time wastet that would harken nostalgically back to my computing origins. I'm not a spring chicken so to speak. In the 80's and 90's I ran a BBS (The Undermountain Trail) before the internet proliferated and made BBS's go the way of the Dodo. I'm currently a software developer and database administrator.. It's not sexy work, but it pays the bills.
I've never really fit in anywhere, and still don't, although at 47 that means considerably less to me now than say when I was a teenager. One observation however of everyone here is it is nice to see this vibrant community organically grown being there for each other. I've been especially touched by seeing how users pay tribute to those that pass on in the real world, and the real world connections they made while playing the game.
Some or most of all of my best friends made were made during those days running that bulletin board, when I was a pre-teen and parents told us that every stranger on the computer was a serial killer. Boy, we lost that fear quick (see Tinder). In reality, my best friend, who my parents jokingly called "The Serial Killer" was just another weird nerdy dude like me.
Anyhoo.. Just wanted to introduce myself a little. Feel free to say hi if you see me online.
I have 3 kids, one who is autistic, non-verbal, with epilepsy and an allergic to bees, oh, and he's a runner. My other two are like me, on the spectrum, so... it's a wild little feral family my wife and I are raising. I don't go out much, we moved 800 miles from my original home and the thought of trying to make new friends who understand my quirks makes me physically ill at this stage/age of my life, and I WFH, so I haven't stepped foot in an office for more than a day in 20 years, and when I do, all sorts of anxiety ensues. I'm 6ft 5inches, but I try desperately to make myself hidden, I have RBF, so people are afraid of me even though I am a gentle person, my wife has to order for me at dinner and all the administrators at my kids school are terrified of me.
This is a toughie, because I love all animals. I had a soul dog though, Butters, the Chocolate Lab. He lived until the ripe old age of 19. He saw me married, divorced, remarried, become a father, traveled the AT and all throughout Europe with me and was my constant companion. He would eat anything, including paint, and he loved bannanas, so much so that he would scale the fridge to get them. If there was water near, he would be in it, but if I called him he'd come right back to me (and shake off getting me soaking wet.)
I figured it was a stepping stone, not a lifelong commitment. I'm so new that I can't imagine I'd be attractive to any of the really good factions yet so.. any port in a storm? I can still use the items in their armory until something better comes along..
I try not to be generic and I've no reason to just flame people for the sake of it. The Hello World posts do tend to fall into that trap regardless of platform. They are sort of like what everyone says to you when a love one perishes to the point where you're so exhausted by the stream of BS that you just want to scream. This could be my autism talking however...
I knew there was a not zero chance someone was going to take the piss out of me. Goes with the territory I guess. I can take it and dish it back out all the same. I'm fully waiting for the guy who downvoted this to mug/kill me as I sent him a tampon. Touche'
There are enough venture capitalists with money to burn who could bankroll a team in either PR or DR, it doesn't have to be local owners. Hell, most of the current MLB teams are no longer owned by anyone who could claim real connection with the community outside of the team itself.
Montreal was essentially a feeder team for most of MLB when they played there. My fear there would be they would become another Tampa Bay/Oakland situation where they draft extremely well only to see all their talent set sail in FA, but I wouldn't be against them getting another shot.
I hear you re the logistical issues with the games, I'd rather see those games done mid-season (like right before the AS break) than the WBC, which just seems to invite injury as guys try too hard before they are really ready. I like the idea of the WBC but the timing just sucks, and with the money invested in the players, if I were an owner I wouldn't want any of my players participating. Edwin Diaz is essentially a precautionary tale.
I also think MLB should be expanding and putting a team in PR and the DR.,, More so than say Charlotte or Nashville imo. Those are places that both love the sport, and would 100% fill the stadium win or loose every game.

We have a Pyr/Anatolian Mix, a Caucasian Shepherd, and a Mountain Cur, What do you want to know?
As Order suggested, they do take rather large dumps. My Caucasian Shepherd looks like a werewolf in transition when he goes. They are pretty low energy, the livestock guardian breeds, unless they sense a threat and then they snap to attention. Ours protect our children, and our chickens and cats. We have a few acres and I send the dogs out when the kids go gallivanting because I no neither human or animal will get anywhere near close to the kids with them on guard.
Ours are all pretty spoiled. They are content to lay at my feet while I work all day and when the kids come home they saunter into the living room to follow them around in hopes of food scraps.
