I understand empathy, I also have it. I simply learned from life that you can be empathic but still look at hard facts. I've learned that If I get my emotions think for me I may miss important aspects of reality.
For example what life would the people now in Refugees camp have, if not like that in other Refugees camps in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan for Palestinians. That's a bad life, because unscrupulous fundamentalist then use your anger for their own benefit.
So I try and think, what would be better for them, to stay or to leave and make a better life for themselves. I think the second, because again it already happened that in un manageable situations, hard choices were made.
Haven't you thought that what is in general a good human tendency like empathy, can lead you to take poor choices? There are tons of pedagogical books that teach you that you know..
