So I was thinking, one thing that makes South Africa stand out is the Hunting skill system. It gives players an actual reason to repeatedly travel there beyond standard money-making methods, and it adds long-term progression outside of the main stat grind.
I think Torn would benefit heavily from expanding this idea to other travel destinations by introducing unique location-based activities and progression systems abroad.
Examples
Japan → Gambling/Arcade mastery
Hawaii → Surfing or fishing
Switzerland → Skiing
UAE → Luxury trading or negotiation skill ( maybe helps with OCs?)
Argentina → Ranching or horse-related activities
Canada → Wilderness survival/ animal trapping
(These are just 10 sec brainstorms lol)
These activities wouldn’t need to be massive systems. Even lightweight progression mechanics similar to Hunting could:
Increase travel engagement
Diversify gameplay loops
Make destinations feel unique
Give long-term players more side progression goals
Merit Expansion & Honor Bars
Currently it takes roughly 1485 merits to fully max all merit categories. So adding some merits similar to gaining 100 skill level in racing or hunting could help reduce the weight. Plus who doesn't love more honor bars (besides the person who has to design them lol)
Overall, more destination-specific progression systems plus high-end completion rewards would add a lot more depth and replayability to travel and late-game progression.
