Why can't I wander the item market and the Auction house while I'm flying? Spending fruitless hours dreaming of all the things I can't afford. Why can't it work like the stock market where I can see it but I can't buy or sell. Maybe I just wanna see it and outside of Torn I can be on eBay for days while on a plane.. so why not on my Torn plane.. Fine, no touchy clicky buy buttons, sighs heavily but at least let me peruse the wares and chat away while waiting to land and buy my stuffed delightful little animals...? Unless there is some 5 brain reason this should be taken away from prying eyes who want to limit my shopping desires..
I heard one person in faction chat exclaim 'We got new flying graphics' And another person said cool, so yes the people have spoken in excitement.
I don't want the ability to access funds. I don't want to buy or sell. Anything. I want the window to show me the things and you can gray/grey out actual transactions. Not world changing, not system breaking, not game altering, not OP gifts that have consequences. Literally and simply, let me view the auction and items like I can the stock market.... Same idea, same system. Let me see 'em.. not touch, not change. I would like to window shop.. Hence my suggestion title and the spirit of the suggestion. i wish to peruse the fine wares I can not yet afford and keep my eyes on particular deals as I try to puzzle out how to spend my meager funds.
You may say, Ahhh, then you could have someone else buy something for you while away! I can do that now though babe, that isn't what I seek... You may ask yourself 'where is that large automobile?' This is not my beautiful house and I'm on a freaking plane!!! Let me window shop.... So I find it hard to create lore in my head since the internet sure works fine if you can go to Weaver and get 1/3 of what I want. The item market and bizarre's laid open like a greenleaf turning 15. Unfortunately the picture is not complete at Weaver since there is No auction, no gamechat without a window switch back and forth. I'm not in search of and can find no game mechanic breaking and in my estimation this a flip of a switch and a few lines of code since the hooks clearly are already delineated, had prior use, and this isn't a cost issue.
I appreciate the passion of that everyone who has responded here and I've enjoyed the discourse thoroughly. I do feel some of you were misguided to deter exchange and perhaps it's my own poor communication which has failed to simply state the issue in a clear simple manner. I do have a chatty and wordy habit of expounding on my plethora of thoughts that spill out of me.
Agreed on both points. I'm simply asking for all in one integration which allows me to have a chat window and view the market and auction without being on weaver and discord. I have online time around some flights so it's what I'm thinking about and chatting, and getting ready for when I land to play. This suggestion was not to approve or disapprove of the current game state. Everyone seems wrapped up in the intentions.
Simply stated, wifi on the plane, if I can be on the forums, I should be able to see any market or auction. If I can access it on weaver, the hooks exist on the backend. Instead, I use discord, weaver and the website to do one thing. It's not really a debate which everyone seems to miss the point of a suggestion. I wasn't seeking knowledge, I was suggesting a one and done option and not putting everything offsite. I think 20 years is long enough to get past the 'boring intentions and/or one or the other system.'
Take the example on how everyone here seems excited they got a new graphic for flying. Great stuff right. Consistent and basic functionality would be better. That is how long the drip of dopamine is here. That is not a slow drip, it's a pitch drop experiment.
HUGS ALWAYS, we all play TORN, for all sorts of reasons, HUGS ALWAYS
This is a suggestion forum and as dry as it comes being a 20 year old text based game. Constructive replies would have added to the suggestion instead of banking on age old tried and true shutdown of the conversation around the original suggestion. While I'll agree that everyone can say boring was a poorly worded dev decision, it doesn't negate the suggestion and mean it dies because of 'that's the way it has always been.'
I feel this need for you to attach emotion or attitude is only because no salient points were brought to bear against the suggestion being plausible. One person said go offsite, another said the immersion is supposed to be an onsite market, and Lizzy just stood behind someone else saying 'he said so..' And I'm not sure what you are putting forth other than adding to the pile of lack of rebuttal?
First of all, nothing here is personal for me. I do enjoy entertaining myself while writing since your only rebuttals seem to be an centered around an insistence on saying the same thing each time as if saying it over and over again somehow makes it right or valid for...reasons that someone else told you. Continuing to hash-tagging since you think it bothers me just makes you look past your expiration date for credibility. I wish you nothing but happiness, long life, and to continue to practice debating something when you have appropriate responses to add instead of repeating something that was shown to not stand up to scrutiny. I've yet to hear a counter to the suggestion besides the old guard made it that way because we promote boredom and wish you'd use an offsite website and play something else. Not even a server load management issue reducing features during flying saves blahblah%... Peace to you my Elizabeth and your severe doubts
You are ascribing this to an emotion, like being upset at a post is a thing while it's simply a suggestion. You are also taking the assumption that I wasn't aware of these 'facts', or the weaver website or what was said by a developer beforehand. Again, this is a suggestion my dear Elizabethian Stick in the Mud. Offering a perspective outside of what is currently available and to lament the reasons behind it.
Unlike you, I do not wake up in my mother of pearl laced sleeping gown and cap, and tiredly swing my legs out of bed wishing the world would stay the same and unchanged because some guy said so a long time ago and no one is sure why but let's just keep it that way.
Change brings discomfort, no one likes change, and I'm sorry I ruffled your wig here but if no one suggests and pushes, then we'd all be living with you back in the dark ages while someone pudgey and pale sits on a throne with gout saying 'sorry not sorry.' Stop burning the libraries, listen to new ideas, and don't prescribe to a cliche that is out of date while digging through your pile of VCR tapes.
I am writing this while I am on a plane. Someone certainly cares about the number of people logging in breaking records. Getting on your pulpit to advocate for status quo instead of entertaining the idea of enhancing enjoyment is counterintuitive.
My sole reason for suggesting was in the hope someone would say “due to this reason.” A logical discourse as opposed to old rhetoric about how it’s always been and closed minds that do not want things to change based solely on that’s how we did it my day so you kids walk up hill in the snow both ways too!
At least you added one salient point about it being a physical space only accessible by being in Torn which is defeated handily and convincing by the weaver website. Which I stated was fine if I could chat on there too. Browse and chat…. I’ve yet to hear anything that makes this suggestion impossible from a backend/dev reason or gameplay immersion reason.
Planes obviously have wifi though, one can access the forums as an example during flights. Which once given this ability opens the suggestion's barrier of a given technology concern on planes being available. Once you've realized this is true, that would mean there is not a reason to view other sites with same wifi on a plane, while being just an interactive and/or boring, nothing about the time gate changes. Taking away the ability to actually purchase and/or move funds in the item market or auction is completely valid to not inhibit the current game play mechanic of financial travel considerations.
Again, for what feels like the thirtieth time at this point, stating what flying is meant to be(boring?), isn't what the suggestion was meant to address. Postulating on 2.0 isn't in the scope of this post. Proposing a simple idea since the technology is obviously present and the offerings to use said tech appear cherry picked. Simply adding to the fabric of immersion with the ability to view the item market and auction. Clearly showing this isn't beyond the scope to accomplish, doesn't change current game play.
Clearly, koolaid is strong for the Priestess of #chedging? and her groupie who promote, grandstand and plead for an incessant need to stand firmly behind and promote Boring, counteractive, and uninteresting as the goals and purpose of this unfortunate and limited mechanic in it's current state.
Look up the definition of a suggestion sometime. Then look back at how you are dictating how a game is supposed to be played by someone else and then hash-tagging like its still the last century? Putting in an 'Unless you' so you feel better and hedge your bets since you know it's not an unreasonable suggestion. Trying to sound nice but then going on about your decision on how I'm supposed to play a game? You aren't contributing to this thread in a positive manner. You only reiterate your single point which again wasn't in the spirit of the suggestion, refer to definition of a suggestion if this doesn't wrap around for you. My point stands, your point in some way feeds your ego in a way I hope sates your need to reply again.
For a game that is subscriber and donation based revenue, having something I have to go offsite to do or heeding the recommendation to 'play something else' isn't productive or helpful and goes against the spirit of the suggestion. Achievement reached 'Flying is Boring' Failed achievement 'Option to do a basic thing I want to do to alleviate boring since I'm online anyways at that time'
This doesn't help with auctions and I have to switch windows to chat, which is why I put CHAT & SHOP... Weaver is a wonderful website but again, a mod only exists due to a need the devs won't support, either choice or financial, which seems strange in this category since all the hooks are there for it already...
