Subject: Self vs City Youth - Opening Statement

Case Introduction

I didn’t plan on unpacking anything when I got here—least of all emotions. I came to the city to keep things moving, keep things clean, and put the past behind me. Therapy wasn’t in the cards. But then I met someone, gave away a box I didn’t want, and accidentally picked up a new perspective.

This isn’t about reinvention. It’s about documentation. A running log of a mind that keeps trying not to feel. If she can speak her truths in public, then I can at least try to file mine in private.

Procedural Background

Shortly after arriving, I crossed paths with a kid. New to the city—could tell from the way she looked at everything like it still had promise. I didn’t think too much of it at first. Small talk wasn’t the goal.

But I had this box. Old stuff. A blouse, some lipstick, a few meaningless receipts—leftovers from someone I used to care about. I didn’t want to throw it away, but I sure as hell didn’t want to keep it. So I handed it off. Called it a gift, but let’s be honest—it was a disposal. She accepted it. No questions, no conditions.

She said thanks, and mentioned her blog. Said writing helped her process things. I checked it out a day later, expecting some surface-level venting.

What I found was something entirely different. Immense potential, and better yet, inspiration.

Timeline of Recent Events

  • Day 1: Gave her the box. Didn’t expect to see her again.
  • Day 2: She told me about her blog.
  • Day 3: I read it. Start to finish.

That’s when I found out she’d been jumped. It wasn’t a headline—it was a paragraph buried between reflections and flashbacks. She didn’t write it for sympathy. She wrote it like testimony—just the facts and what they left behind.

I felt something shift.

So I sent her a small gift to make up for the trouble the expensive clothing may have caused her in such a rough place. Told her she had potential. I wasn’t just being kind. I meant it. But more than that—her words stayed with me.

Statement of Purpose

That blog made me realize how much I’ve refused to look at. How long I’ve gone without naming the weight I carry. She wrote about her pain with a kind of courage I didn’t know I was missing.

This journal won’t be public. It’s not for validation. It’s evidence collection. Quiet admissions. Private filings. Therapy, if you want to call it that. This is where I start keeping track of the pieces I’ve been pretending don’t exist.

Closing Remarks

I gave her a box to forget someone else.

She gave me a reason to remember myself.

This is my first entry.

Not for her.

Not for them.

For me.
