So, to cut a long story short, a friend got me into Torn as they were showing it to me and i found it interesting enough to join.
I did a lot of research as i was really getting into the game. I don't do as much now as i have my plan relatively figured out (for a long time at least).
One thing that has been noticed by me again and again though is that this game to me feels like EVE ONLINE but smaller basically.
Some simple aspects would be Training Offline, many thing in torn happen on a timer which keeps going while offline, much the same as training in EVE.
Many stats in both games are important, but currency ends up being a fundamental pillar in both. Can you get away without currency? sure, but the most advanced players probably have enough wealth to do almost anything they need to.
To me, both games are fundamentally about grinding currency and using that as your method to progress everything else faster.
Also the vibe of both games generally feels the same, it's a pool of players existing in a sandbox world where there is no real limit to what you can achieve within it's systems and so much of it revolves around the space and fights of the biggest dogs out there.
I could likely make more comparisons, but my biggest one if of course factions. I recently discovered Faction Families and how intertwined the top spots in the faction leaderboard are. Of course in EVE this reminds me of corporation coalitions and Sovereignty (as well as taking blocks in the city map for torn).
So as i've been drawing more relations to EVE that i am always happy to see (EVE is my go to MMO), i come here to ask how many other players here also see this game in a similar space to EVE, of course just in a different setting.
You are exactly right, i never left High-sec xD I did ninja some gas in low-sec ONCE, but i spent most of the time in high sec just mining, ice mining with a corp further back.
you're right about currency if you do pvp and the point is pvp, being happy in some fits, cause then you probably don't need the isk surplus, but skills you still "grind" probably as any time not training skills in EVE is wasted as far as im aware. The offline skills training that is, unless you use injectors all the time.
I actually care very little for efficiency. I did my research and am playing some parts efficiently i would say, from my limited game time, but i will still value how i want to play over efficiency.
It doesn't have ranked wars, but theres literally no leaderboards. Despite that, factions are still always at each others throats in a war for resources and space. I think the only way you can really track the most dominant faction in EVE is sovereignty maps, but that wouldn't show a factions bank, items or anything so theres no real way of knowing.
EVE is definitely quite a toxic game for sure, but you learn to live with it. The toxicity in eve causes people to fight, but people on the same side are drawn closer by that same toxic atmosphere. EVE has a reputation of being a friend machine due to making people share the same awful experiences xD
Ever since i found torn, idk if i'd call it my main game since the timers exist, but i haven't missed a single day online thus far. Over like a 200 day streak or something
