The issue here is that there were/are other groups intentionally and maliciously abusing websockets for their bots. These guys did everything they could to ensure they were above board and creating legal scripts by consulting with devs because throwing away their combined 20 years of Torn time was not worth risking. Their scripts required manual interaction with their active window in Torn which is within the rule definitions. If what they were doing has now been deemed a permafed without the opportunity to prove you were not doing what you’re accused of, then why aren’t we seeing more feddings of the other notorious muggers?
I know nobody is going to come on here and defend scripts used for mugging; but people should be enraged about the precedence this sets.
Guilty without the opportunity to prove yourself innocent.
So now we should all fear Multiple tabs running the same scripts simultaneously which EVERYONE that is using scripts does. For wars, for revives, etc.
Mugging may be looked down on, but it is a GAME MECHANIC in a CRIME GAME.
I understand where you’re coming from and appreciate you seeking the truth. I hope you will be willing to hear me out as I offer some clarification.
Does SHAT have a reputation of being trolls? Yes. This is a game and people choose to play as they will.
Are we trolling the current situation? Absolutely not. There is a lot of emotion involved because while the community does not like us, there is serious injustice happening. Emotion can lead to less than effective communication and I understand this is probably where some question to our evidence credibility comes in.
The reason we are screaming “false positives” is because MrRightSA was not running the scripts that viewed websocket data. He would have 4 tabs open on a large screen (like many of us do) manually monitoring markets etc which, from Defectus’ screenshots, was considered legal until recently.
Then comes the websocket bug that was reported 10 months ago. Some have started to misunderstand what we are saying. Our guys did not exploit a bug. They did not know about it until this whole mess erupted and independent (non SHAT) developers reached out to them noticing the strange behavior. The bug was causing it to appear that a user had more websockets open at a time than was actually true because the sockets were not closing, even when you closed that tab. So, we believe this bug is what made it seem like our guys had 20+ sockets open at a time when they did not.
They never read data from closed tabs.
They were always actively viewing the windows and manually interacting with the items on the market in order to track them.
This bug now seems to have been quietly patched.
SHAT does not want the evidence to exploit it, we want this massive cluster cleared up. We took to the forums because unlike the temp feds, our guys were not given the slightest chance prove themselves innocent of the massive accusations. They offered to cooperate, to provide all of their scripts and detail their process and exactly why, given Splent’s input, they believed they were within bounds of the rules. Instead they were shut down and called liars because of the number of websocket connections they supposedly had.
An amount, I remind you, inflated by a bug in torns own code.
Are you as important to your faction as you think you are?
Absolutely wild reaching out to my faction asking for them to intervene before this becomes “a faction-level issue.”

At this point the goal is to raise awareness; people think with these feddings they are now safe when in actuality nothing has changed.
MrR is proof there is not some super accurate websocket scraper identifier which means any muggers who regularly watch multiple tabs “the old fashioned way” could fall victim to the same false positive.
Furthermore, only the ones who cared to at least try to be above board with staff approval have been fedded. Where are the others that built their bots in the shadows, hidden from dev attention and approval? Why weren’t they identified in this “extensive” websocket scraping sting?
We won’t get justice but we will settle for burning it all down.
“Given your cooperation”
So none of the fedded players deserved the same, explicit warnings or chance to stop what they were doing to avoid being permafedded?
What makes Agualoop so special?
The statement says they were not running/scraping websockets in the background. Every piece of data gathered required a human to manually interact with the item. Asking if they were allowed to do something is very different than abusing that something (that in that same screen shot Splent okayed). It also shows their intent to remain within the bounds of the rules.
They also did not say the script they were using was exclusively Snickelfritz; just that they also had that running because who doesn’t? It’s a great script.
