I recommend starting with spending all your merits in Education Reduction.
Everything takes its time, Torn is a marathon not a sprint :)
Also look for another faction, wtf is happening there
I think early on you get merit's fast fast enough that it doesn't really matter.
Imo do some easy merits and finish maxing edu, then bank.
Awareness is bait, and nerve is very situational.

Nerve Bar doesn't give you more nerve, only if you use nerve refills.
So this only gives you "extra" nerve in cases where your nerve bar runs full. Which is ideally once a day when you sleep.
