To celebrate my first year in Torn, I'll be sending out  Dividends to a few people in the comments. They won't be huge, but it's my way of giving something back to the community that's made this game so enjoyable.

The recipients will be chosen based on the comments—whether it's your funniest beginner mistake, your best piece of advice, or just a memorable story from your first year. I'm looking forward to reading them!

365 days ago I found Torn through a random  ad.

My very first thought was:

"Who the hell is going to wait for their energy and crime bar to refill?"

I also remember thinking crimes were probably the last thing I should be spending my nerve on.

Fast forward one year...

Now I plan my day around energy refills, nerve, ranked wars, poker, bank timers and training.

Funny how things change.

One year ago I thought Torn was just another browser game where you waited for bars to refill.

Today it's one of the first games I check every day.

The Beginning

Like almost everyone else, I started off making mistakes.

• Got mugged more times than I can count.
• Fell for the classic beer scam (who hasn't? 😭).
• Didn't understand the value of cooldowns.
• Had no clue how important gym training would become (couldn't even afford Xanax).
• Ignored stock blocks because I only cared about making quick money.

Looking back, getting to Level 15 honestly felt like the hardest part of my journey. Between random muggers, trade muggers and barely knowing what I was doing, surviving those early days was an achievement on its own.

One Year Later

• Over 1000 defends
• Over 250 escapes
• 500 Kill streak Merit 
• Revive Skill

Crime

Crime 2.0 has probably taken up more of my time than I'd like to admit.

I've worked through Search for Cash, Bootlegging, Graffiti, Burglary, Cracking, Disposal, Hustling and many of the newer crime paths, and watching those skill bars slowly reach 100 has been surprisingly satisfying.

Back on Day 1 I genuinely thought crimes weren't worth doing...

Safe to say I was completely wrong.

Money

I've tried a little bit of everything.

Flying?
Not my thing.

Trading?
Gave it a shot.

Bookie?
Love it.

Russian Roulette?
Way more addictive than it should be.

Poker?
Without a doubt my favourite activity in Torn.

I've made around 800M profit playing poker, played across plenty of different tables, and recently hit my first Royal Flush (in a tournament), which is easily one of my favourite moments in the game.

Ranked Wars deserve a special mention too.

They're easily my favourite feature after poker and have become one of my biggest income sources while also making me appreciate how much a good faction matters.

Events

Halloween was probably my favourite event.

I only had around 250k battle stats at the time, so I wasn't exactly strong, but I still had an absolute blast.

Christmas was incredible too.

Walking away with roughly 300M profit definitely made it one of the highlights of my first year.

Training

Only recently have I started taking training seriously.

I've started using the Speed Training book, using cans far more consistently, completing my daily refills and aiming for roughly three Xanax a day.

The progress has honestly been insane compared to how I used to train.

I'm now closing in on 100M total battle stats, and it feels like my account has finally started snowballing.

Things I'd Do Differently If I Started Again

If I could go back to Day 1, I'd tell myself:

• Join a good faction immediately.
• Start training from the very beginning.
• Don't underestimate boosters.
• Buy dividend stock blocks earlier instead of only chasing quick profits.
• Keep less cash on hand.
• Learn poker strategy sooner.
• Be patient.

Torn really is a marathon, not a sprint.

Biggest Lesson

I'm definitely not experienced enough to be giving advice to veteran players, but if there's one thing I've learned, it's this:

Getting to Level 15 felt harder than anything I've done since.

You'll get mugged.

You'll lose money.

You'll make mistakes.

But training your stats early changes everything.

It makes you a less attractive target, earns you more defended attacks, and gives you a much smoother experience overall.

I followed a simple goal of getting roughly 1M in every stat before worrying too much about ratios.

Now I'll finally decide what build I want to commit to.

And one thing I wish I'd realised sooner...

Use your boosters.

They're there to be used, not collected.

• Continue building passive income while still having fun.

One year ago I couldn't understand why anyone would willingly wait for an energy bar to refill.

Now I understand exactly why.

Here's to another year of Ranked Wars, poker tables, crime fails, lucky wins, bad decisions, good profits and hopefully a lot fewer muggings.
