So I recently got given a PI with a jacht and airstrip, and the merit for them says to “own them”.

Initially I did not get the merits just by having the island, I was told I need to move in for it to trigger, but since I was living in another one when I tried to move in I got the error that I “need to fire my staff in the existing one before moving” but at the same type I got the two merits, so I ended up never movig in it in reality.

Not sure if this is intended and you need an additional interaction with the island after getting it or it’s a bug so just letting you know

You don't need to buy the upgrades yourself, just get a property with them. And my report is about you don't need to technically move in just trigger the warning for staff in your other (rented) PI. (And that just simply owning it without further interaction IE when I was just given it did not trigger the merits)

Chain drinking beer in inventory by clicking “drink another from faction” still drinks my own beers despitw having armory access/beer in armory etc
