This post really resonated with me. I've made my career in customer service-- multiple decades, multiple industries, endless unique needs and approaches. I've never encountered anything like what I've seen from Torn's moderation staff.
If anything it reminds me of talking to cops. Anything you say can and will be used against you. The onus is on you to disprove the allegations, but unfortunately the cop is also the judge and there are no lawyers.
If that's the case maybe that's why I've OD'd three times this month, mostly on Japanese Xan, and every time was the last Xan of a stack. I have been stockpiling eDVDs but have watched not a 1 since I can't seem to stay out of rehab long enough. It's all killing my war hits too 😭

It is the way of a wandering wizard to wend as their whims do dictate, and Aelmbey was no exception. Unfortunately, her player was not so free with her time, and weeks of faction warfare had kept Desq chasing her paychecks rather than her heart. Only the dreams of what such money could buy had buoyed her through the violence and sleep deprivation. Only hope sustained her, but at last even the darkest clouds parted. The shade of her broad brim was was a welcome gloom and the rustle of her sleeves a heartening tune as she returned to that fateful park.
"Sir Drathlane, my friend!" she called as she strode towards the familiar figure. He was never hard to find-- look for where help was needed and sure enough he would be there, doing his best. "You ain't slayed all the evil without me now, have ya?" In her left hand she held a staff that seemed as seasoned yew, surmounted by a softly-glowing statuette of some ancient creature. The wood grain painted upon the foam core's textured tool-dip was nearly seamless. The arcane idol at its pinnacle slowly shifted through the colors of the spectrum, the battery pack for its LEDs cunningly nestled in the faux-leather and silk that swathed the staff's grip. Here was the fruit of her long labors, boffer-safe and beautiful, now ready for its baptism in the blood of evildoers.
Despite the excitement of her new toy, she caught herself just before she launched into expository monologue. While wizards weren't known for their manners, even she could tell she was interrupting. Another newcomer in their midst was about to meet with the paladin who held the line against the wickedness of Viggomort, and his was an acquaintance worth making. Thus, she at least waited until he'd finished speaking to add her two bits.
"If'n ya seek traffic with the unholy, mayhaps yer tent's over yonder," she drawled, jerking her chin towards where their adversary was beginning to strap on that infamous black armor. "But should you long to vanquish all that bedevils good mortals, Sir Drathlane's yer man." Another pause. Then, a grin lit the wizard's shadowed face. "And if'n ye hunt what lies beyond the powers o' the natural realm, well." Her gold canine reflected the staff's RGB oscillation. "Perhaps I might be yer gal."
The repast before them was heartening, indeed. Certainly it was the sumptuous feast and not the admirable dedication of the paladin before her that nearly drew a tear to Desq's eye. "Your cause is sure a noble one, sir knight. It's been many a year since I roamed the lands as a wand-for-hire, but I did learn a thing or two about fightin' evil." She laughed, flashing one gold canine as she smiled. "What I mean, I'm glad you kept up with it. I'm not much of an organizer myself, but I've helped out here and there. Suppose I'm in for some more adventure as long as you are. Even if Sue can't make it next time, neither."
By the time battle lines were assembled the sugar, caffeine, and heroic speeches were doing their damnedest in Desquivel's body. The blood in her ears thrummed along with the beat of foam on PVC as armor and boffer alike clattered into position. A shiver ran from her shoulders down to her fingertips. The beanbags in her pockets seemed to shudder along with her. She echoed Drathlane's shouted command with her own wild war whoops. "Death to the black knight!" she cried. "Woe to his enemies!" The first beanbags flew from her fingertips like Varsity Softball Tryouts '07-- the year she'd landed starting pitcher and carried the team nearly to State. The thirst for glory had ignited in her blood, and woe indeed to those who stood before her onslaught. "Eat fireball, punks!"
Righteousness. Bravery. Evil knights. Certainly Aelmbey was in the right place, even if Desq's dignity might suffer for it. The excitement in the paladin's voice, though, was hard to ignore and maybe even a little infectious. "The tales I heard spoke true, then." Under the broad hat brim she was smiling. "Gladly I will enlist my art for such noble aims."
When talk turned to choosing sides she listened, nodding. Then she swept one palm down against her forehead-- as if donning another, larger hat over her conical sorcerer's cap-- and waggled her fingers. It was an ancient gesture to denote out-of-character speech, known to some boffer enthusiasts and tabletop gamers as.. the Squid Hat. "If it's all the same to y'all I'd rather stay on the good side," she said, fingers still wiggling. "Evil minions take too many foam swords to the kidneys in my opinion."
With Drathlane's change in posture Desq also straightened, her Squid hand falling back to her side. "Seems y'all do know how to welcome a stranger in these parts." Still grinning she shifted her rucksack to rummage within. "Course, I didn't show up empty-handed, neither." From under a pile of more orange beanbags she produced a six-pack of energy drinks and two slightly-battered boxes of chocolate. "Let us feast, then. To our fellowship, and the battles to come."
The broad brim of a wizard hat wasn't quite her usual ten-gallon Stetson, but it kept off the sun, at least. The Torn morning's polluted haze was smoky gold over the gazebos and playground equipment and, unfortunately, she wasn't alone.
The flyer in the grocery store had seemed like a decent way to burn a Saturday at the time. One drunken drop-ship cart later and Desq was decked out, but nonetheless she was having some second thoughts. Her pockets were heavy with hunter-orange beanbags, but the weight on her soul was heavier.
She cleared her throat. "In the lands beyond this realm they call me the mage Aelmbey. I've heard the ruler of these here parts has use for mighty arts-- I'm come to cash in." She swiped one voluminous hanging sleeve along the sweat beading on her brow. "Now.. have ya need of me?"
This past weekend we went barn hunting and and are now over halfway to our Open title in the sport! Unfortunately the only documentation appears to be this Top 10 Paranormal Sightings outtake.
I love how much Binks is clearly enjoying their romp. I love me a good Aussie-- I can't help but feel a kinship for every chaotic herdy creature I meet. We added our first herding breed two years ago and honestly I'm obsessed. If it wasn't for time/money/space I would have a dozen.
