I watched the replay of the Australian Grand Prix and it was actually a really interesting start to the season. I didn’t expect George Russell to control the race that well. Mercedes looked very strong and the 1- 2 finish with Kimi Antonelli in second was impressive. The timing of their pit stop during the Virtual Safety Car really worked in their favour..
Ferrari looked quick at the beginning though. Leclerc actually took the lead early and the battle with Russell in the opening laps was fun to watch, but their strategy cost them later and he ended up 3rd with Hamilton right behind in 4th
What surprised me most was Verstappen coming all the way from the back of the grid to sixth. That was a really strong recovery drive!
If this first race is any indication, Mercedes might actually be the team to beat this year in the F1 World Championship, but Ferrari seems close enough to keep the fight interesting.
