My friend got harassed with an anonymous message on Torn going on about how women that have pushed out a couple kids are ugly / worthless. The report they submitted yielded a suggestion to just block. How can they go about doing this? Thanks!

With a former global superpower imploding on itself and functionally dead, and concurrent genocides around the world, what are you doing to connect with community locally and take care of yourself?

There is plenty to grieve but in times of crisis we also need to participate in things that create joy and reminds us of our own and others' humanity. You can't run on an empty tank.

For me, it means getting involved in activist circles, ironically enough. It helps to have people that can get you out the door to protest causes you believe in, but which can also gather outside of that setting. Some of that involves making music. I've also started partaking in community meals with and supporting my local anti-Zionist, Jewish circle. More frequently I play video games with a few key friends for a bit every evening and chat. It's a nice distraction. And of course making art.

What have you been doing to get by? How does it help you?

Continental europe has twice the population, this data is not per capita. Even the EU alone has about 100 million more people which would make the gap insignificant if the data points were even remotely comparable to start with.

You're not going to look at infanticides in geography A vs. road deaths in geography B in a schema similar to this one and think like this.

I get disgruntled whenever people suddenly pretend to care about the well-being of men as a tool to bash a given group, cause or celebration. Its so morbidly disingenuous more often than not.

Assuming that apartheid is not exclusively minoritarian rule, I think the US could definitely qualify, at the bare minimum historically, as an apartheid state what with redlining among a dozen other things.

This sort of nasty gerrymandering is anti-democratic and while not exclusive to a fascist state is definitely an extension of it.

...so you're doubtful about ALL of it as potential mis/disinformation?

Developed "western" countries exist in an economic order where they self preserve while interfering in the ability for other countries to economically develop, whether through conquest and resource control or fiscal levers like the IMF or World Bank. A by-product of this rules-based order is some level of international collaboration that focuses sabotage on the under-developed. This has been the case for centuries once cartel states in Europe realized they "had" to scramble for Africa to keep the "growth" going. 

Post-WW2, we have seen conflict turn to either civil conflict or proxy wars, reinforcing that rules based order. This was further enforced as we moved from a post-colonial to neocolonial era, meaning tools like structural adjustment programs could levy loans in-turn for austerity in very poor states that barely had social welfare to begin with. 

This is all BAD, but it has offered relative stability to those wealthier countries and their citizens. By breaking this rules-based order, threatening to invade and annex your closest allies, leaking communications with allied world leaders, and erratic tariffs being levied and lifted in a way that shorts markets, means that everything could be off the table.

This will likely have major ramifications for a lot of economies and thus a lot of regular people's quality of life, especially but not exclusively for those in the US.

Where do you think that data would be collected?

US veterans are being thrown into custody with no due process, sometimes without access to an attorney or they're unable to call family members. Doesn't that make you mad that the lack of due process means that citizenship won't necessarily save you, and that there's no rule of law? 

They say that they have rigid standards for recruitment, but people that have a criminal record that have taken drugs to fail the drug test literally the day before-- fringe activists, have been accepted automatically. Doesn't it make you pissed that drugged up people with a record can go door to door and playing the law while completely ignoring it?

Their recruiting is either bad enough, or they're internally split enough that they had that massive leak. Is that what we expect from a proper law enforcement agency?

They've also harassed local law enforcement enough that there's active opposition from police officers and police chiefs to these untrained outsiders coming in to kidnap and intimidate everyone, including law abiding US citizens.

The government on a good day cannot be trusted, regardless of political stripe. Even if everything about this operation WERE legal, it's a farce that threatens the American way of life.

Some are, some are legal immigrants, some have US citizenship. The Gestapo doesn't really care that much.

As an academic with a background in International Relations and Development, its really not! Geopolitics are always depressing, but new global "rules" are being broken by the day that we haven't seen in a long, long time. There is reasonable cause to lend your voice if you have it.

Some of us have loved ones impacted, and some of us are actively organizing. No one is winding up in a straightjacket, but making sure we spend time doing stuff we love when the world out there is so dystopian is a good and normal thing and very odd to be pressed over.

You are allowed to care about local, regional, domestic and international affairs at the same time. If things are particularly bad in your day-to-day it is understandable you'd put less energy into stuff that you feel less connected to, but it is not a strange or uncommon thing to do.

Two of my friends there are from / have lived in Texas / Oklahoma as well! Wonder how big a community there is over there that's made the jump from your home state lol!

I visited the PNW for the first time before everything got especially bad. It's absolutely gorgeous out there, especially the Oregon coast!
