From "Let's Split the Rent" to Total Meltdown
I wasn't planning on making a forum post about this, because honestly I didn't care enough about an in-game marriage to make it a big deal.
But after everything that happened, the sheer absurdity of it deserves to be documented.
A few months ago I got married to Poipoipoi. Like most Torn marriages, it was supposed to be simple. We had a property with a monthly rent of 21m plus upkeep, and we agreed that we'd split the costs.
Simple agreement.
Except for the last three months, I was the one paying all of it.
To be clear, I never complained. I never demanded repayment. I never started arguments. I never posted about it. I just paid the bills and moved on because it wasn't worth the effort of turning it into drama.
Three months.
Three full months of covering the entire cost without making an issue out of it.
Then this month I finally asked if we could split the rent as originally agreed.
That's it.
That was the entire crime.
Not "pay me back."
Not "you owe me."
Not "give me millions."
Just: "Can we split the rent like we agreed?"
Somehow that question triggered one of the most ridiculous conversations I've had in this game.
Almost immediately I was being called incompetent. Apparently the person who had been paying the entire rent for months was the incompetent one.
Then came the claims that she'd been paying rent all along.
Fortunately, Torn has logs.
So instead of arguing, I checked them.
The logs showed exactly what I expected them to show.
I had been paying the rent.
Month after month.
The evidence was right there.
At that point I thought the discussion would be over. Maybe there was confusion. Maybe there was a misunderstanding.
Nope.
Instead of acknowledging the logs, the conversation somehow became about me.
It didn't matter that the agreement existed.
It didn't matter that I had paid the costs.
It didn't matter that the logs backed it up.
The problem wasn't the facts.
The problem was that I pointed them out.
The more evidence I provided, the more hostile the conversation became. Every attempt to keep things grounded in reality turned into more insults, more accusations, and more attempts to shift the focus away from the actual issue.
The issue was never complicated.
We agreed to split the rent.
I paid the rent.
I asked to split the rent.
Everything after that was pure drama.
Then things escalated even further.
Instead of simply ending the marriage and moving on, mercenaries started getting involved and I found myself repeatedly hospitalized. What started as a basic disagreement over a straightforward arrangement somehow turned into a feud complete with threats and retaliation.
At that point I wasn't angry.
I was genuinely impressed.
I've seen people overreact in Torn before, but turning a conversation about paying half of an agreed expense into a full-scale conflict takes a special level of commitment.
Eventually I got blocked.
Not because the issue was resolved.
Not because an agreement was reached.
Just blocked.
By then the marriage was already over in every meaningful sense, so I filed the divorce and moved on.
And that's the entire story.
No heartbreak.
No emotional speech.
No regret.
The marriage ending wasn't the remarkable part.
The remarkable part was watching a simple request to honor an agreement somehow transform into insults, denial of documented facts, mercenary attacks, and complete chaos.
People can draw their own conclusions.
This is simply my account of what happened.
Before anyone gets the wrong idea, none of this actually affects me.
I'm not upset that the marriage ended. I'm not sitting here heartbroken. I'm not losing sleep over it. If anything, removing unnecessary drama from my life is a net positive.
The only reason I'm posting this is because the entire situation was so absurd that it deserves to be documented.
A simple request to honor an agreement somehow turned into insults, denial of documented facts, mercenary attacks, blocking, and a complete collapse of basic accountability.
That's not my problem anymore.
As for Poipoipoi, I'm not interested in endless arguments or drama. The facts are already out there. The logs exist. The timeline exists. Anyone who wants to look at what happened can draw their own conclusions.
Actions have consequences, reputations are earned, and people eventually become known for how they treat others.
I'm moving on.
This story, however, isn't going away nearly as quickly.
And when the time is right, the right people will pay.

Apparently she paid part of the rent before which according to logs is a lie.
She still lying about having paid before. All I asked was can we split rent this month. Then she says I cant pay for it even though I could.
