It sucks that this has to happen, but it's for the better after all.

Well, I guess I should comment on this, since I was kind of the trendsetter here.

First off, I support bogie's decision if that's what's best for Torn. I personally had a lot of fun hosting Xanflip and learned a ton building and running it, and I know a good portion of users will be mad or disappointed about this. But after everything that happened, I understand why staff want to step in, and honestly I think it's the right call.

The problem with casinos in general

Players get upset when they lose, and I totally get it. The house always has the edge, and when you lose a big chunk of your savings it feels awful, especially when you have no real way to verify the game was fair. On top of that, a lot of the newer casinos that popped up were pretty much low-effort AI-generated sites. I won't get into their RTP, but I've heard concerns from players about some of them, and when anyone can spin up a casino in a weekend, nobody can really tell which ones are legit.

The abuse side

Running one of these also makes you a target. After Xanflip got popular, my entire production server was hit by a DDoS attack from a Torn user who is still unidentified, and I doubt I'll ever find out who wanted to hurt me that badly. After that, the domain was reported to Cloudflare, and my host gave me 24 hours to take the site down or they'd take my whole production server offline, which also hosts other projects that have nothing to do with Torn. That's the reality of running a casino here: it attracts attackers, grudges and reports, and the owner carries all of that risk alone.

The legal side (the part I think matters most for Torn)

Look at what happened with Roblox. Third-party gambling sites grew around Robux and in-game items, and Roblox ended up facing lawsuits and heavy criticism for allegedly letting minors reach gambling through its platform, even though Roblox didn't run those sites itself.

Torn could end up in the same spot. External casino owners have no way of verifying who is a minor, and if these sites are advertised freely on the forums, Torn effectively becomes the middleman connecting underage players with gambling. That's a risk no game should take on for the sake of third-party sites, and it's exactly the kind of "shakey ground from a compliance perspective" staff mentioned.

The RMT side

Casinos are also a very convenient tool for RMT. A site can be coded to inject fake results, rig specific outcomes, or quietly move money between accounts, and from the outside nobody could tell. Worse, an owner could run a completely fair casino, build up trust and popularity, and then flip a switch at any point and start scamming torn cash for real money, using the casino as cover for where the money came from. Staff have no visibility into any of that.

Final thoughts

Honestly, seeing this makes me sad, knowing I won't be able to run Xanflip again, but that's the reality of it. I'll miss running it and I appreciate everyone who played and supported it. But between the attacks, the scam risk, the RMT potential and the legal exposure for Torn itself, I think banning external casinos protects both the players and the game. Thanks to staff for being transparent and asking the community first instead of just dropping the rule.
