I wouldn't compare it to a book. When you buy a book you own a book. When you buy GTA 6 you get a license to play. That's my hang up with modern gaming, nobody gets to OWN the game they bought.
It wouldn't even be remotely challenging to sell locked thumb drives with the game on them. They just have gotten more and more predatory.
