Card Skimming Optimal CS Gain · · 27 likes

I graphed the optimal CS gain from card skimming at different locations. It seems like after gas station (well-known to be the most efficient), the post office actually comes second instead of the widely believed bus station.

  • x-axis = number of details collected
  • y-axis = expected CS multiplier

I used data from [Crimes 2.0] Card Skimming: An In-Depth Guide and I interpreted it as:

  • bus station (collects 0.6 card details per hour; loses 2.5 per week out of 20)
  • post office (collects 0.75 card details per hour; loses 1 every 2.5 days out of 20)
  • gas station (collects 0.4 card details per hour; loses 1 per week out of 20)

Conclusion

So the optimal strategy to maximise CS Gain is to place all skimmers at the gas station, and only take out skimmers that reached 1300 details.

If you haven't unlocked the gas station yet, then place all skimmers at the post office and only take out skimmers that reached 870 details.

P.S. if enough people request it, I will include the math calculations here too.

Yes exactly. I didn't graph the other ones because they were negligible, but here they are anyway:

[Crimes 2.0] Card Skimming: An In-Depth Guide mentions:

"Skimmers in [the subway station] are rarely found, around one per day with 20 installed on average."

"Skimmers [in the college campus] are fairly likely to be discovered, losing around 3 every day with 20 installed on average."

Which perfectly matches your observations (losing 2 per day on average).

For subway the optimal number to pull out at is 415. And for college it's 156.

But since I was at it, I decided to calculate your specific scenario where you mix placing skimmers in both college and subway:

Your magic number turns out to be 228. So you've been intuitively pulling them at the optimal time.
