Third-Party Casinos Aren't the Problem — They're Filling a Gap
I feel like the bigger conversation here should be about why third-party casinos became popular in the first place.
There is absolutely room for Torn's casino to be revamped.
One of the things I really enjoyed about third-party casinos was item/token-based gambling and the sheer variety of games available. It gave items another use, created different ways to play, and frankly was just fun.
The one I used was provably fair and recorded every single game action. It wasn't some mystery site where you threw your items into a black hole and hoped for the best. There was transparency and a way to verify what was actually happening.
I'm not arguing that Torn should turn a blind eye to scams, shady operators, manipulated games, or sites that can't account for what happens to players' assets.
Those are legitimate concerns and should absolutely be addressed.
What I don't like is treating every third-party casino as though it's inherently malicious.
Some of these projects exist because they're filling a gap that Torn itself isn't filling:
Different games
Item wagering
Token-based systems
Provably fair mechanics
Detailed game histories
Different ways to actually use the items and wealth we've accumulated
That's player-created content adding something to the game.
If the problem is accountability, then regulate accountability.
Require provably fair systems. Require transaction/game logs. Require clear ownership and rules. Require API compliance. Give Torn whatever oversight is reasonably necessary.
And if Torn ultimately doesn't want third-party gambling at all, then I really hope some of the ideas that made these sites popular find their way into Torn's own casino.
At the end of the day, people weren't using these sites just because they were "third-party casinos."
They were using them because they offered something fun that Torn currently doesn't.
I'd much rather see Torn address the reasons these sites became popular than simply make them disappear.
Sorry for the lengthy post. I feel passionate about this as a dev and enjoy anytime I can play with data, especially in a space as data rich as torn.
