Comrades. Readers of the original platform. People who already knew “Defund. Abolish. Create.” was not a bit about City Jail. City Jail is a game system.
You red a crime, fail a bust, eat an OC, sit in Crims, and wait for nerve, a lawyer, or a card. That is content. Federal Jail is not content.
Federal Jail is the part of Torn where Officers and Admins stop playing the same game as everyone else.
The OP already said the quiet part: the carceral forces of the state are not here to keep the city safe. They are here to constrain Torn’s working class; the grinders, the chat menaces, the faction bodies, the company employees flying to Switzerland because their brain icon looks like a crime scene all while the social-club layer keeps its permissions.
We agree. Fully. Painfully.
With the kind of sincerity that still has to be funny, because otherwise you are left admitting that the Reports button has better stats than the Player Committee.
Defund staff by rejecting any expansion of Helper, Moderator, or Officer reach. No new chat occupation. No new forum jurisdiction. No new “scope of enforcement.”
Cut their practical authority every year toward zero. Helpers can explain travel. Moderators can hide a post.
The Fed button is not a public service. It is a budget line that should shrink until it becomes folklore. End the criminalization of working-class survival.
Torn already has systems for the things staff like to moralize about.
Drugs have addiction points, company efficiency penalties, gym hospital rolls, Nightclub specials, faction Toleration, and a clinic in Switzerland.
Acting like an absolute unit already has social consequences: ignored, muted, kicked, left in hospital, dropped from a chain. That is community process. Federalizing it is just the state deciding that fun is a charging document. Freedom for all fedded players. Not the curated list. Not “the ones who were only a little annoying.” All of them. Temporary, permanent, notes, multis, the forum poster who became a cautionary tale. Frozen inventories help nobody except the mythology of Staff. Empty the box.
Give the city back to the people who actually generate chains, trains, bazaars, and bits.
Demilitarize staff and end colonial staffing of forums and chat boxes. Chat is not occupied territory. The forums are not a colony. If a player can lose a day to hospital, lose a company shift to addiction, or lose a chain because someone got greedy on Xanax, then staff can lose immunity. No more occupying force dropping into General Discussion to announce that civilization has arrived.Freedom of working-class self-organization and democratic political action. Factions already organize. Companies already discipline. Revivers already provide care. Directors already run rehab schedules. The Player Committee already sits in City Center like a museum exhibit. Give it authority over warnings, chat bans, and Fed review. Real authority. The kind that can answer a report without becoming the report.Invest in community self-governance and care, not staff. Redirect the enforcement budget into player services: cheaper Swiss rehab, better revive economics, travel that does not punish the poor, hospital time that does not nuke a chain, and company tools that treat addiction as a stat instead of a sermon. Torn already has care infrastructure. Staff are just standing in front of it.Treat drug addiction and acting like retards as health issues, not crimes. The game already coded the health issue. Addiction is visible. Efficiency drops. Environment drops. Rehab exists. Overdose exists. The only part that still pretends this is a moral emergency is the part with badges.End staff immunity. Empower player oversight bodies with real authority over Helpers, Mods, Officers, and the Admin layer. If only Officers and Admins can put someone in Federal, then a player body should be able to take them back out. Otherwise “oversight” is just fan mail to bogie.
Tl;dr, for anyone who read the OP and nodded: demilitarize staff, disempower bogie, and redirect funding to player services as steps toward abolishing Staff and the Federal prison system that protects the social-club cretins and jails the fun people.
City Jail is a mechanic. Federal Jail is a ruling class.
Treat the drugs like drugs.
Treat the forum brainrot like a clinic problem.
Treat Staff like an occupying faction with better permissions than the rest of the city.
The horizon is abolition.
The path is mass principled struggle, sarcastic agreement posts, Swiss clinic receipts, and the slow, beautiful death of the Fed button. Who’s with the OP? And more importantly — who’s bringing the Xanax and the Lawyer Business Cards when we seize the means of Reports?
