Discounting the Hazmat Suit, Medieval Helmet, Motorcycle Helmet, and Welding Helmet, which are city finds and event items, an average player will have access to 23 unique pieces of armor. This includes 10 bodies, 4 boots, 3 gloves, 4 helmets, and 2 pants. With the selection of armor available to an average player, there is a single setup that will maximize effectiveness: A flexible body armor and combat for the rest, with an optional motorcycle helmet if they decide to splurge.

With the release of cache armors, there are more options available for richer players, but the average player won't be able to afford even a single piece of cache armor, the cheapest of which being, at the time of writing, 95m-100m for a single low quality piece.

In many other games, players are expected to upgrade gear gradually, buying a low level piece at a low level, and selling that piece to help afford the next level of gear. With the limited gear diversity in Torn, a low level player will purchase Leather Pants for $1,100 at Big Al's Gun Shop, and their next option will be the Combat Pants for $2,950,000 in South Africa. There are no other options for pants at all before upgrading to cache armor.

While armor quality can be a good analogue of a diverse armor system, it doesn't account for the disparity between Leather Pants's 20-25 armor rating vs Combat Pants's 38-43 armor rating, being the example that is the largest outlier. Other types of armor, such as body armor, cover almost the entire range of armor rating from a Leather Vests's minimum of 20 to the Flexible Body Armor's maximum of 47, with the 28-30 range being entirely unused.

Adding a variety of tiers of middling armors would allow players to diversify their armor sets as they grow in strength and net worth. Additionally, adding "lite" versions of the cache armor effects to lower level armor may make them more appealing, such as giving leather armor a small bonus to dexterity, or giving combat armor a small resistance to bullet damage. With the gaps between armor in the current game, a wide variety of new effects could be added.

Additionally, armor could be given bonuses based on the type of armor it is. Chain mail armor, for example, could give resistance to slashing, kevlar armor could give resistance to piercing, or flak armor could give resistance to explosive damage. Maybe Safety Boots could actually give a bonus to kick damage as stated in their description. Perhaps swapping armors for a single attack would be a possible solution to a difficult combat.

Not all new and existing armor sets need to be good. It's the nature of many games that many sets are bad, many are middling, and many excelled only in certain situations. Not all armors need to be unique, and some armors could simply be flat upgrades to other armors for players willing to spend more money. They don't have to be anywhere as good as cache armor, but the added diversity would make the armor system more engaging and rewarding for players who put in the effort to optimize their loadout.

Edit: The armor effects is wishful thinking. The main point is the low number of armors in the game.

I can never keep track of how many drugs I used or when I used them. Is there a tool that can do that for me? Aside from a piece of paper, I mean. I'd like something that just shows me how many addiction points I have in real time under the company addiction number.

Is it just 10 addiction points = -1 company addiction, before mitigation? Also, at what time do addiction points decay daily?

Ye know about that but was hoping for something automated. Like I know how to get all the numbers I want but I just can't code.

That has the company addiction, I'm looking for the actual addiction points.
